In the Oneness of the One Life we are brothers and sisters; beloved children of a creator whose Love has no end.

In gratitude and celebration of that connection, my thoughts and prayers go out to you today.

When my words reach you, no matter where you are, we form a connection of our hearts, minds, and Souls.

No matter where you are, I am beaming Love and Light to you.

My Prayer For You

Along that path of Light and Love, my prayers flow out to touch and bless your life.

From this day forth, I ask that your day is filled with love and joy and your night has grace and peace.

May your Divine Self inspire you and the Light of your Soul direct your actions. That you may be led from the darkness into the light, from the unreal to the real.

For you I invoke the grace of forgiveness from the very heart of God and ask that you be blessed with a clarity and awareness from the very mind of God.

With my full faith and assurance that you and I are the beloved children of a compassionate and forgiving God, I ask that your life be blessed by the comfort and embrace of that redeeming love.

In this unity and community, my love flows to you to support and strengthen you. From my Soul to your Soul I send forth beams of Light. From my heart to your heart, love flows unconditionally to hold you safely in the comfort and connection of blessing and sisterhood/brotherhood.

This is my prayer for you today and my wish and blessing for you every day that your life may reflect honor and glory in all of the days and the ways of your life.

I ask this in the name of Christ, through the heart and mind of Christ.

Amen

You Are a Spark of Divine Light

You Are a Spark of Divine Light

Read "You Are A Spark of Divine Light" Serenity Sunday article by Genevieve Gerard

This bold truth reveals what is magical and mystical about a human being.

This truth has been a foundation of all world religions and of all paths since the beginning of time, yet it remains one of the deepest secrets in our human consciousness.

The truth can set you free. Yet, it is a truth that is not easy to really understand and often difficult to manifest in the world. It is this truth that speaks to understanding the nature of God and the purpose for mankind in the world.

What is amazing is that although this is a concept that is as old as time itself it seems to be ever a new revelation each time it is expressed. As I write these words I am aware of all of the traditions that have tried to share this truth about the nature of humanity and the nature of God that have become obscured in dogma. This unfortunately only hides the truth leaving just small hints or glimpses into the full power, the full majesty and the amazing glory of what the statement “you are a spark of divine light” means.

It is beyond my ability to imagine how frustrating and disappointing it must be for God to have tried so many times in so many ways to reveal this truth about the nature of life and the purpose and promise of life itself only to watch His amazing creation of humanity suffer and struggle through their lifetimes both unaware and unwilling to be what we were created to be.

Even as I look internally, I am aware of so many obstacles in my own mind and in my own consciousness that I understand that this concept is not easy to understand. I find that I lack the vocabulary and the writing skill to teach or express the vast magnitude of what is possible when I let myself realize the implications of that truth.

In India, there is an ancient tradition that has emerged from one of the world’s oldest traditions, that of greeting and acknowledging one another by saying “Namaste.” This greeting serves as a reminder of this great truth when you slightly bow your head with your hands together and over your heart because the word Namaste means, “the divinity in me recognizes and honors the divinity in you.”

In this simple act of tradition lies a reminder of the truth that you are created as a spark of the Divine Light. The Namaste greeting or acknowledgment serves not only as a reminder of this often shielded truth of our true nature but also as a brief blessing. The slight bow of greeting and honor that is commonly seen throughout India, China and most of the Asian world works in a subtle and mystical way, as blessings do. This is because as you acknowledge and honor the divinity in another as you honor and acknowledge the divinity in yourself you are automatically and spontaneously aligned with God.

That is a mystical part of blessing someone. As you give a blessing you must open yourself to the Divine, and to do so you are also blessed. This is the power and the magic of blessing and it is true and profound in whatever culture, with whatever words are used.

What is so magical about both the giving and receiving of a blessing is that when you bless someone you are consciously aligning with the Divine using whatever words you choose to understand God or your higher source. Even more important, you are acting in your role as a co-creator with the creator.

We are told that God created man in his own image. God granted man that spark of His own Divine nature. This Ageless Wisdom and the ancient scriptures from all traditions and all paths tell us this. I cannot think of a single religion or tradition in the world that does not acknowledge this truth.

However, to understand the purpose and the meaning of this great gift that God gave to humankind when life was breathed into his creation is our challenge as human beings. God gave us this great gift but because free will is a universal element of the nature of life itself, God must give us hints and nudges to guide us and help us learn to align our personal will with Divine Will.

There are so many times and so many ways God has tried to bring us into the harmony and union for which we are created. The history of the world is filled with messages and examples of God’s saving grace through history. This relationship with God is the essential element of all spiritual paths and spiritual teachings.

If we study the history of revelation from world teachers to world saviors to prophets and saints, we have been left with some basic directions. These are amazingly consistent despite all of their individual dogma and diversity for they all direct us to love, to love God, to love ourselves and to extend that love to others. We are reminded that the nature, the essence and very being of God is love. And that spark of Divine Light that is within each and every human heart, mind and Soul is composed of love and created by love.

How can something that is so basic to our very existence and so integral in our very nature be so hard to manifest? How can what we all long for so deeply be so often beyond our reach?

Simple teachings like those of Jesus when he answered the Pharisees about the greatest law, upon which all the laws and rules are based when he stated, “Love God with all your heart, your mind and your Soul and love your neighbor as yourself.” Although this sounds very simple, anyone who has strived to live by that direction will acknowledge that this may not be so easy to do.

To love God, to truly love God requires living in right relationship with God, which is an I – Thou relationship as described by the theologian Martin Buber in his book “I Thou.” To love yourself is one of the most important elements for psychological health and well-being and the subject of more teachings and books than I can name. To love your neighbor as yourself requires demonstrating both Good Will and the Will to Good to all who share the planet.

Expressing your Divine Spark is a significant way to demonstrate your love and your service to others. Enter coupon code “NGWS50” to instantly download this meditation for only $5 USD.

Perhaps the reason that Jesus guided his disciples to these manifestations of love is because the significance of how to do things affects your behavior and consciousness. Long ago Saint Augustine said “Love God and do as you please” because he knew that if you were truly aligned with God in that “I Thou” relationship that what you would choose to do, how you would choose to treat others, how you would choose to honor and respect others would result in right action and right human relationship.

These principles that are woven into every spiritual teaching are so basic to your personal and societal success and happiness that you need to be reminded that “You Are A Spark of Divine Light.” As that spark it is important that you honor and Love God, that you honor and love yourself, and that you honor and love your fellow man. Ponder On This. Perhaps it is why that reminder inherent in the ancient greeting of Namaste has had such longevity and purpose. It serves as a blessing, but also as a reminder of who you are, and an acknowledgment of your unity with your neighbor and your need to show homage and love to God.

So I encourage you to as you go into the world this week to greet and bless all who cross your path with the meaning of Namaste, I recognize and honor the Divine spark in you as I recognize and honor the Divine spark in me and in so doing I recognize and honor my unity with the Divine.

Remember, this thought serves as a blessing and an honoring of those you greet and automatically aligns you with your own Divine spark, your Soul, and spontaneously brings you into right relationship with God as you serve your fellow man.

When you consciously extend this greeting and these thoughts with intention you are, through the universal law that energy follows thought, serving as an emissary of Goodwill and Right Relationships. You are actively joining with God in your role as a co-creator to be of service and to be a force for goodness, love, and mercy to come into the world. This simple act of kindness, love and grace does have amazing power. It will impact and influence the world around you as it will influence you and all around you in subtle and yet powerful ways.

You can be an agent of change, and a source of blessing and a force for good in the world. You can make a difference and help create the world you desire to be and help to usher in the new age and the new world that has been foretold in the prophecies of old.

A helpful and powerful affirmation, which is my very favorite from my “Awaken to Success: Affirmations for Abundance” CD, is:

I am a spark of Divine Light, it is my nature to shine.”

Therefore, I encourage you to be a blessing to the world and to affirm yourself as a spark of the Divine as I say to you a heartfelt Namaste.

Namaste,

Genevieve

The Art of Blessing

The Art of Blessing

Read The Art of Blessing by Genevieve Gerard

As I was looking at the sales numbers for a variety of affirmations and meditations that I have put out in the world to help people I was astonished by an observation that started me thinking about both the art and the science of blessing.

When I saw that one of the most popular individual downloads from my two affirmation collections was the track labeled “thank you blessing” I was amazed.

What amazed me the most is how hungry people are to have the energy of the Divine affirmed and expressed in their life.

In the past hundred years or so, as the world has become more and more secular, the concept of blessing has fallen by the wayside. Little traditions and rituals of incorporating God into our lives are no longer woven into the daily fabric of life. Subtle conventions of speech and thoughts have changed. This may seem insignificant unless we consider this from the perspective of the principle that “energy follows thought.” The change in popular thought about the subject and meaning of blessing has had an unintended consequence on our society and our world of disconnecting us from our experience of the Divine.

By changing our thinking and simple changes in our patterns of speech we can begin to restore the peace and serenity that blessing extends because the principle that energy follows thought is a real and underlying truth in the world. We can individually return to the concept of blessing one another and invite blessing back into our human experience by extending blessings to one another.

Let us consider some of the ways that humankind has engaged in blessing throughout time. In much of the world, particularly India and Asia, blessing was extended as people greeted one another with “Namaste”. The meaning of this Sanskrit word used to greet and acknowledge another is “The Divine spark in me recognizes and honors the Divine spark in you.”

I honor the place in you where Spirit lives
I honor the place in you which is
of Love, of Truth, of Light, of Peace,
when you are in that place in you,
and I am in that place in me,
then we are One.
        – Namaste Greeting

The powerful and wonderful part of this blessing, when used as a greeting from the perspective of the principle of energy following thought, is that in using this blessing you must first make a connection with your own Divine spark, your Higher Self or Soul. By affirming the truth that you are first affirming your alignment with the Divine, then recognizing and honoring or supporting that consciousness in the other. It is interesting to observe that the tradition extends to bringing your hands together and executing a slight bow as a physical expression of the blessing. The small bow remains in the interactions of most of the Asian cultures still today.

It is also interesting to note that in the cultures who have maintained these rituals the society is, in general, a little more respectful and mutually supportive than western societies where the thoughts and art of blessing have been left behind as archaic. As honoring and acknowledging God as a source and strength in our world, the benefits of blessing have waned and left us with a world where values such as truth and honor have become old-fashioned and are no longer pursued.

These subtle shifts in the consciousness of individuals and the consciousness of society has created an atmosphere of selfishness and self-involvement that are having a profound effect on the world. It is certainly easier to be greedy, depriving others of dignity if you do not consciously value them. It is certainly harder when, even on a very subtle level even with a habitual speech pattern, you honor them and acknowledge them as a part of the Divine, and identify yourself as such.

Consider that by not blessing and honoring another you may be in some way impacted. These subtle shifts we have seen in our society away from charity to greed, from honor to corruption may take root in our failure to honor and bless one another.

If we look at the residuals of traditional speech patterns we will see that blessing was once built in. From the simple tradition of saying “Bless you” when someone sneezes to the once very prevalent phrase of the American South “Bless his or her heart”, it is clear to see that the concept of blessing one another was woven into the fabric of right speech and right human relations, both values that have diminished as the traditions of blessing have been diminished in our society.

On a very subtle level, just the simple act of saying “God Bless You” when someone sneezes is an affirmation and statement of faith that God has power over evil. This is because this tradition emerged from the old belief that when someone sneezes they lose consciousness for a brief span of time and it was believed that in that loss of conscious thought evil could enter them while they were unconscious or unaware. Therefore invoking the blessing of God was a way to dispel evil to return the individual to control.

Likewise the traditional phrase of the American South of “Bless his heart” activated compassion for the individual and again very subtly acknowledged the power of God in right human relations. As the words are said, thoughts are engendered, again because of the principle that “energy follows thought.”

In most of Asia, the residual tradition of the slight bow, left over from the Namaste Blessing, shows respect and honor. It is certainly much harder to cheat, demean or ignore the principles of right human relationships when you are even on a ritualized basis acknowledging their humanity and equality with you, and you are affirming their unity with the Divine.

The greed and the selfishness that have become such a profound problem in the global society in which we live, feed upon this illusion of separation that the loss of blessing has engendered in the world. Certainly, it is much easier to cheat someone, take advantage of someone or in some way misuse someone if you see them as separate from you.

It is harder to treat someone abusively if you
acknowledge their unity with the Divine.
        – Genevieve Gerard

I am sure Jesus was aware of this when he issued the guidance for right action with the phrase “yeah though you have done it unto the least of my brethren, you have done it unto me.”

As I write these words and consider more and more the importance and value of our blessing one another I am grateful that my exercise of accessing the popularity of my closing blessing has clarified for me the importance of building back into our life the art of blessing. Therefore, I would like to recommend that each and every one of us consider a way we could create the power of blessing into our lives.

As William Shakespeare wrote in The Merchant of Venice, “it blesses him that gives and him that takes”, it is impossible to bless someone without also receiving a blessing yourself. As I wrote in one of my most popular affirmations in my affirmation CD ‘Soaring to Success’ “As I help others I help myself.” This is especially true when giving a blessing.

For me, I will practice what I am preaching (so to speak) or walk my talk as the expression goes, by continuing to add to the conclusion of each offering I put out in the world my blessing, which comes sincerely from my heart as I conclude with Namaste, The Blessing of Love on all that you do.

Perhaps the simple act of adding Namaste to your greetings to others, friends, family or associates will help to return the art of blessing to the world. That energy follows thought is a firm and irrevocable principle of universal laws so even if you do not say anything, but think when you greet someone “the Divinity in me recognizes and honors the Divinity in you”, you are affirming your own role of co-creator in your life and also affirming their alignment and empowerment with the Divine.

In doing this, in your thoughts and in your heart, you are strengthening your own connection with the Divine, and the connection with your Soul or Higher Self. Blessing is a powerful act that needs to be returned to our traditions and our interactions with one another. By adding the art of blessing to your relationships you are making a decision to consciously enter into right speech and right human relations.

This is a powerful choice that can have far-reaching benefits, both to you and to the world around you. Therefore I enjoin you to bless one another as an act of love, honor, and respect, full knowing that the energy that goes out into the world with each and every blessing you give helps to make the world a better place.

I invite you and encourage you to be a source of blessing in the world by extending thoughts of blessing to others as you move through your life. When you see someone in need, bless them. When you observe someone who is upset or sorrowful, bless them. Practice blessing others in little ways throughout the day. By doing this you will invite blessing into your own life and become a subtle force for good in the word.

Thank you.

Namaste,

Genevieve
