Winter Solstice:
Welcoming The Sun
The darkest day of the year, the Winter Solstice is an ancient ritual. The darkness brought people together to await and celebrate the return of the light. With the return of the Light hope and possibility were reignited. This ancient symbolism remains with us archetypically as we sit in our lighted houses often disconnected from the ebb and flow of nature and the rhythms of the sun.
Modern man with his scientific explanations for all and the how’s and why’s of what our ancient forbearers considered miraculous have lost the sense of awe and celebration.
So this Solstice I suggest a change in your routine, an opportunity to share in the rituals that have come down to us through time immemorial.
Rise as the light begins to chase away the darkness and go to some place where you can watch the sun rise. A beach or over a mountain top are best. As the sun rises, let yourself rejoice with gratitude for the amazing life giving gift of the sun.
As you see the sun rise take a pause to consider all of the ways your life is sustained and blessed by the sun. Take 5-10 minutes to consider all of the blessings and beauty that your life provides for you.
In the way of our ancestors of old, rejoice with gratitude and celebrate the miracle of life.
Last imagine a point of Light three feet above your head as your Soul. Draw in your mind’s eye a pathway of Light from the Sun to that Soul Light above your head and visualize your Soul empowered and enhanced by the return of the light of the sun.
Linger a time to enjoy and appreciate this connection before you go forth into your day and your life, refreshed, revitalized and renewed.
