The first day of spring brings with it a resounding of new hope.

This hope, this promise lies deep within your collective unconscious mind as the coming of the warmth; the increase in the light heralds the bounty of a new season of growth.

This transition speaks to your memories of a time of plenty after a winter of deprivation and lack.

As you welcome this transition in the seasons, and the light turn the creative power of your mind and the awesome force of your will to support and envision a kinder world where prosperity frees people from the burden of fear of lack. If everyone who reads these words unleashes their potential to connect with the Source of their being as the Source of their supply, dramatic change can manifest.

You can each do this as a ritual of welcoming the Light, not just the light of the Sun that the spring equinox heralds, but the Light of Consciousness. You can join your forces with the group influence of those who desire a better world, not just for yourself but every man, woman, and child who walks on Planet Earth.

You can try a little experiment in celebration of the Spring Vernal Equinox which signals the return of the Light.

You can dedicate 3 minutes of your day in which to focus on what your world would be like if everyone, everywhere had enough. Enough clean water to drink, enough food to eat, and enough shelter from the elements, enough abundance to free them from the crippling fear of lack, enough.

As you do this, put away any fear of shortage, recognizing shortage as an illusion that interferes with the free flow of energy from Source to abundance. Discipline your mind to focus on this image, this thought form in faith and trust that energy follows thought. This is a basic tenant of how energy works in the universe. You may not see the results of these 3 minutes of service right away. However, it is not important that you do so.

You may find that to focus your mind for just 3 minutes is harder than you thought it would be, but release any negative thought, release any fear that may cross your mind during this designated 3 minutes.

Return the power of your mind to the vision of a world of abundance.”

Let this work in the Light and celebration of the Light, be a work of service. Then trust and know that the energy of Grace and Love will flow forth from you into the world. As you send forth the healing power and transforming Light to help the world and heal the world with Will and Intention affirm your connection to your Soul and see this work as not just an act of your Will and decision of your personality, but an act of Soul-Personality integration and fusion.

Last, detach yourself from any desire of any specific results beyond the vision created. Then express your gratitude, that the laws of the universe around the workings of energy will work to bring into manifestation the service you have done today.

P.S. On Sunday, March 20th, 2016 in the United States, the vernal equinox silently arrived, signaling the start of spring. The vernal equinox is one of two times during the year when the length of day and night are almost equal (as depicted in the photo above.) Vernal means “of spring” and equinox means “equal night.”

Deep within the recesses of the human heart, at a point of complete and utter peace, exists a power that has within it the essence of transformation that can heal the world.

 

Take a moment to open your heart and receive this power.  It is the power to forgive.  By being open to forgiveness, by being willing to give forgiveness, you become a participant in an active role that can transform the world.

The Divine Love that can flow through your life and flow into your life when you open yourself to the power to forgive is life changing.  By opening yourself to forgiveness you create a place of peace deep within you that provides a fertile womb for a kind of love to grow that is so amazing, so Divine, so awe-inspiring that you may wonder how you ever lived without it.

To touch the magnitude of forgiveness and to share it with everyone who longs for it and needs forgiveness is to wield a magic wand of transformation that touches everyone everywhere.

The mystery of this power, the magic contained in the power of forgiveness was revealed as a hint in the healing miracles of Jesus when he used the phrase “Your sins are forgiven.”  Luke 5:17

Who among us does not long in the secret sorrow of our heart to hear the words “your sins are forgiven”.  We all harbor within us a longing to know and truly believe that our past mistakes, our past sins can be forgiven.  There is little in life that is as healing and restorative as forgiveness.

Forgiveness is a double blessing because it blesses both he who receives it and him who gives it.  Grace is the cloak that garbs forgiveness. 

When we have opened ourselves to give forgiveness or to accept forgiveness we have opened ourselves to touch the Divine.”

The power, the peace and the transformation that is ours when we unlock the power of forgiveness is so profound and changes our life so completely that the real mystery is why we would ever choose to not forgive or fail to fully embrace being forgiven.

There is no sorrow that forgiveness cannot heal.  There is no separation that forgiveness cannot bridge.  Forgiveness is not earned. It is received by love through Grace.  It is the most profound and most powerful of all spiritual gifts. 

By unlocking the power to forgive you are bringing the power of God into your hands.  You are demonstrating your unity with God and you are rewarded with a peace so tangible, so deep, that is passes understanding.

In quiet, in reflection, in meditation review those you could forgive and whatever you need to be forgiven.  Call upon the Light of your Soul and in gratitude and joy let yourself accept the forgiveness that is available to you and give the forgiveness that is accessible to you.

Then go forth in life with a new opportunity to live the life you were meant to live in joy, in celebration of love for yourself and your fellow man.

Bringing Joy to Your Life

Joy in life is even more important than happiness.  Many issues can impact whether or not you feel happy.  And, although I have often said and long believed that happiness is something you bring to life more than you receive from life, joy is a spontaneous expression that can permeate your life, adding depth and dimension to the most mundane events and activities.

Joy springs forth in your heart and your mind, not so much from what you are doing but from the way you are being.  When you are being appreciative of the myriad of little things in life, joy fills your heart.  It may be as simple as enjoying the cool caress of a breeze on your skin or the fresh smell of the air after a rain.  Thousands of little things in life that could easily be ignored as we hurry and scurry through our busy lives, when we stop to notice them and appreciate them can be a wellspring of joy in your life.

Awareness of the world around you seems to be one of the key and essential elements to bringing joy to your life.  Likewise, gratitude for what comes to your awareness also seems to be a portal to experiencing joy.

What is amazing is that these awareness’s and gratitude’s need not be about major happenings in life. The little pleasures, the simple pleasures, serve to stimulate the wellspring of joy as a natural result of living a normal life. 

By being aware and being appreciative of what is available for us in life, we bring into our life hundreds and even thousands of moments that are joyful.”

By the time the day has passed we find that we are, through these simple techniques, living in joy. It was the realization of this fact that led to my development over the past 35 years of a collection of (12) twelve activity based awareness meditations that I published as a 4-CD set called Meditations for Daily Joy.

In my own spiritual and meditative life I began to observe that engaging in life with greater consciousness, focusing my awareness, expressing my gratitude and expanding my understanding of the connectedness of us to one another lead to my life becoming more joyful everyday.

This did not mean that I never became upset or sad, or walked through life inside a protective bubble, but that the pervading experience in my life, in the midst of the challenges and trials was one of joy.

Gradually my experience of joy increased.  I was able to see the many blessings in life.  Celebration, praise, hope and promise became common experiences in my life drowning out the voice of fear and leaving in its stead trust and faith. 

Knowing that no matter what touched my life each day I could bring forth so much joy that was wonderful and special that I drew the strength to face each dawn excited by the potential of what beauty and blessings were in store for me today.

I lost my dear friend Alan to the senseless loss in a killing motivated by forces that barely make sense to us as Americans.  Receiving a phone call during the 45-hour siege, directly from Dr. Steven Hinkey who was at Master Charles’s ashram while the attack was taking place made it even more real to me.  The tragedy was further compounded by us finding out later that Alan’s teenage daughter Naomi had also been murdered in the attack.

Making sense of the senseless and demonstrating the spiritual power of forgiveness is chronicled in this book.  It is a rare opportunity to share in the journey a spiritual guide must take to find healing and peace from such a personal disaster.

This article is part of my on-going series on Prayer & Faith and Meditation.

The spiritual journey, no matter the name of the path or the structure of the belief has always contained the techniques of both prayer and meditation.

Some paths include both prayer and meditation, comfortably vacillating from one to the other depending upon the purpose or needs of the moment.

In many ways prayer and meditation are twins, but they are not identical twins. They differ in subtle but significant ways.

When I was first taught to meditate by a Maharishi Yogi; as I was leaving the instruction called an “initiation” back in the 1960s, I recall pondering about the experience I had just had. I remarked to myself that I had previously known the state of consciousness that I had just experienced at the conclusion of a time of deep prayer; a state I had referred to as “prayer beyond words.” Ponder on this!

Even at that young age the universality of the path we take to connect to our Soul struck me. Beyond the connection to our Soul, which I have come to believe is the hearts desire of everyone, exists the desire to connect with a higher source (God), however, you define God.

Each one of us needs time and space for recollection, meditation and calmness…. Thanks be to God that this is so!”

It is to reach the Soul and connect to God that people along all spiritual paths engage in the practice of both prayer and meditation. And although both prayer and meditation serve a similar function there are differences in both the purpose, method, and outcome of the two practices.

Prayer has always seemed to be best suited to times when praise or petition is the need. In times of great need, prayer seems to spring naturally from the human heart as we reach out for help and healing in times of danger, distress, and pain, be it physical or emotional.

In times of trouble we reach automatically for the help and intervention of the Divine, even if we have no sustaining belief in the Divine. It is archetypal in the human experience to reach out, indeed cry out for that which is beyond our human limitations for help and comfort.

Likewise, in times of transcendent joy praise rises spontaneously in our heart. Even if we do not conceptualize what we are praising that welling feeling, praise accompanies the experience of great joy and great love.

Meditation is best suited for contemplation, deepening our understanding or quieting the chattering mind and engaging the power of our higher source (Soul) to bring about the desired result. One would meditate for deep relaxation, healing and to invoke the power of our intention using techniques such as visualization.

Meditation is more a conscious approach than prayer and as such garners the best result when entered into with conscious intent and regularity. The continuity of consciousness that disciplined practice of meditation grants makes meditation the technique of choice when one desires a specific outcome, which is why visualization is a technique incorporated into most meditations.

There exists a myriad of techniques of meditation designed by spiritual leaders and masters throughout time to bring the student of meditation to the desired state of consciousness, being or understanding.

In understanding the subtle differences that exist between prayer and meditation, we are empowered to draw from these two ways to connect with our Soul and connect with our Source using whatever method is best suited to our desired outcome.”

A Single Step

One-step at a time, one day at a time is the key to our ultimate success.  Constancy and perseverance result in manifesting our vision.  Even if we wander off the path or meander along the way, the step-by-step forward movement will result in arriving at the destination.  Just as the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, so does constancy and perseverance assure us that we ultimately reach our destination by moving forward. 

We can be gentle with ourselves when we miss-step as long as we return to our direction, moving forward, as soon as we notice we have strayed off the path and turn our feet back to the direction we know we must tread. 

No progress made along the journey is ever wasted. Each insight gained and lesson learned enhances and enriches us. Just moving forward a single step at a time.

Gift of Love

The Christmas Gift of Love

Today is Christmas Eve.  Around the world, children await the magical arrival of Santa Claus laden with gifts.  Songs are sung and stories are told.  Families gather and feasts are prepared.  Celebrations abound each according to their own traditions, some more secular and some more religious.  Gifts are given or exchanged.  People rush around and worry as the hour descends, spending money, wrapping gifts, decorating trees, so very busy, so very determined that a good time is had by all.

But in these upcoming moments to the gaiety and fun, let us take a few moments to focus upon the deeper meaning behind this event.  Let us ponder less upon the business and the material gifts to focus our attention on the love that is shared and the bonds that are strengthened.  Let us understand the gift giving from Santa as symbolic of the real gifts we are giving one another, the gift of Love.  It is that which is tangible long after the toys have broken or are relegated to the latest garage sale.  Although the material manifestations pass quickly away to make room for the new latest and greatest trinket or toy, it is the love and the openness of the heart that remains.

So as you give and receive this season consider the true gift that lasts forever, the gift of love.  Let that be the mark of the day that you bring into your heart and hold there.  Let that be the memory you cherish as you look back upon Christmas.

As you hand one another the brightly wrapped trinkets take the time and intention to consciously imbue the gifts you give with the love in your heart.”

And as you receive the gift that may not be exactly what you wanted, open your heart to receive the love that was intended.

In this is the secret of Christmas revealed. In this is the joy that is shared by the positive energy being created all around us as the positive thought and the desire to demonstrate our love permeates the very air around us even in the midst of the bustling crowds of often rude people as they rush about too busy and too stressed by the season.

It is the demonstration of our love for one another that is the true gift of Christmas. Let us open our hearts to our family and friends to that love.  Let us take a moment to consider and ponder that deeper meaning of this season.  Let us give conscious thought and conscious consideration and intention to the love we are demonstrating. 

And if with Christmas we celebrate the birth of the Christ child tonight let us invite the love of the Christ into our hearts to be shared with everyone whose life we touch in this special season.  Sharing the gift of love is a gift we can all give, no matter the size of our wallet.  It is a gift we can give without worrying about if it is the right size or the right color.  The gift of love is always perfect and lasts forever.  It is a gift that keeps on giving long after the dishes are washed and everything is put away.

This Christmas, make the gift of love the biggest gift you give.

The Winter Solstice has always seemed to be a particularly mystical time in the cycle of days.

It is both the demarcation of the shortest day of the year and the day that marks the return of the Light.

In this way, it encompasses both our deepest fears and sorrows and our most profound hopes and promises. It reminds us that our life is one of constant change as we ebb and flow between sorrow and joy, symbolically Light and Dark.

The ever so brief shift of the days to the return of the Light has been celebrated since ancient times by many different cultures. There is something deep within our archetypal sensing to the world that this shift in the Light speaks to.

Just as the darkest hour proceeds the dawn, so the darkest and longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere heralds the return of the Light. This fact of nature serves as a metaphor for the promise and potential of transformation to a better day, a better life, a better world.

Change is truly the one constant in life.

When the change that is coming is the return of the Light and the experience of living reassures us that this transition from the darkness to the Light is guaranteed we can dare to hope and work toward bringing the Light into more and more of our thoughts and consciousness.

As energy follows thought, so the collective consciousness of all of the people on the planet, regardless of culture, irrespective of religions and independent of race, brings us together as the unity of the human family; a brotherhood of man yearning for the Light to return to our lives, more each day as it brings us the perspective of new possibilities and new clarity to the challenges of our lives.

So, as humankind has done since the dawn of time we celebrate the Solstice as the depth of our sorrow, knowing it brings in its wake the height of our joy; the return of the Light with all of the blessing and promise that entails.

Let us invite the hope of the Light into our hearts as our ancestors have since the dawn of time.

Life is constantly changing.

Change is the one part of life that we can always count upon.

This is often a blessing that sees us through hard times.  It is a factor in all of our attempts to plan for what will be.

We might welcome some changes with anticipation or strive for with all of our might to avoid others, but change will come.

Change Process

 

Each breath that we take, each step that we take slips seamlessly into the next.  Then, often when we least expect it we can stop and look around our life and realize how profoundly these little changes have grown until we realize that our life has entered a different chapter.

But that too will change.  So let us enjoy and appreciate each season of our life and each and every transition.  Just this being in the moment that we live, the thoughts that we have, the things we experience, all open the door to our ongoing process of being and becoming what we call life.

You might desire change, or you might as many do, fear it, but change is a part of life. It is a constant in a world in which nothing is ever really constant.

The amazing factor that must be considered when contemplating the nature of life is the power of being in the moment, in the NOW. Being in the present is life empowering. It frees you from fear and keeps you open to the many new opportunities that are opening for you. It frees you from fearing what is going to happen in the future. It frees you from the tyranny of the past.

No one ever knows what the future will bring. The future has not yet been created. That is the wonderful thing about the change it continuously opens new possibilities for you. It is the creative force of life and can as easily bring to you what you desire as to bring to you what you fear.

As you understand the Universal principle about life that “energy follows thought” you can use the power of your mind to manifest your dreams. You can dare to dream and let the constant of change in life work for you. You can embrace change without fear and welcome it with excitement and anticipation. There is as much chance that it will be a good and positive change as it is that it will be a negative or troublesome change.

Using your mind to keep hope and open to the new possibilities and opportunities that can manifest for you is how you can work with change to help it manifest into fulfilling your dreams and desires. Likewise, worrying and indulging in fear uses that same principle to work against creating what you want and desire. Because of this principle that energy follows thought influences your life, I recommend accepting change and avoid worrying (which I often call “praying for what you don’t want.”)

As much as you are able to keep your heart and your mind open to change as the force in life that can bring good. An attitude of anticipation and appreciation helps you remain both open and receptive to the abundance and blessings that are available for you.

Counting Our Blessings

Calm your Mind, Open Your Heart, Invite the Light.

No matter what challenges we face in life, blessings surround us. Let us focus our mind and emotions on those blessings.

By expressing our gratitude we enrich our life and enhance the flow of abundance and joy.

As we experience Thanksgiving Day in the USA, this is a little exercise to help us be in touch with and appreciate the many blessings we have in our life.

This technique is to be approached in contact with our Higher Self from the unity between our personality and Soul.

Begin by taking a deep breath, breathing in the energy of Life and abundance. As you exhale, consciously release stress and fear.

Take a moment to let yourself appreciate the beauty of the world around you.

Take another deep breath, charging your energy with the life all around you. Again, as you exhale, consciously release any anxiety, any fear, and any stress. Let your energy come to a quiet, receptive center.

In a meditative open state of being, consider the world around you.

Take 3 minutes, to ponder upon 10 ways that your life is enriched and enhanced by little blessings and joys that do not require money to experience.

 


 


 


 


 


 


 


 


 


 


 

 

As you look over your list, express your heartfelt gratitude for these little blessings that are in your life. Let gratitude flow out from your heart. Be aware of the feelings of joy that accompany your expression of gratitude.

Claim the joy and celebration these blessing give to your life as your birthright.

Next, focus your attention on the people in your life for 3 minutes.

List 10 people for whom you are grateful in your life. Focus upon how these people have helped you grow and become who you are today.

 


 


 


 


 


 


 


 


 


 


 

 

Imagine a connection of energy from your heart to theirs, and from your Soul to theirs.

Allow gratitude to flow freely from your heart to theirs and from your Soul to theirs, knowing and trusting that your gratitude and love are experienced on a subtle energetic level.

Know and trust that as energy follows thought the gratitude you send out with your thoughts is received as a blessing in their life on a subtle, energetic level.

Last, spend 3 minutes pondering 10 ways in which you can be more of a blessing in the lives of others.

 


 


 


 


 


 


 


 


 


 


 

 

Imagine how blessing and enriching the lives of others can bring greater joy and celebration to your life. Be grateful that you are able to give these little blessings to others as a way of celebrating you abundance and joy. These little blessings do not require money. They may be a kindness or deed, a little courtesy that helps lighten the load of others who journey with you through life.

Then resolve to act upon those deeds over the next week as a celebration and affirmation of your blessings, received and passed on.

Resolve to live your life, aware of the many blessings that surround you.”

Finally draw into your heart the joy of giving and the joy of receiving and for the last minute of this exercise imagine gratitude pouring forth from you into the world, blessing you and blessing others along its way.

Sit quietly before you return to the chatter of the world around you allowing all that your have realized and touched in this exercise to permeate your being, on this Thanksgiving Day.
