A Celebration of Unity
Wherever we are on planet earth, we are all touched by the same Sun.
Moreover, when that sunlight fades away we are all caressed by the same moonlight.
We are One humanity and no matter how isolated or separate we may feel at times, this common experience of life unifies us in a mystical way.
An old spiritual teacher of mine used to always tell me that, “we are more alike than different.” If you take a moment to think about it, you will realize it is true.
It doesn’t matter whether you live in the very highest reaches of the Himalayas, or walk on the sands of the furthest shore, the experience of human life is a common denominator that works toward understanding and unity.
There are of course many differences in each of us that depend upon many unique factors, yet, interwoven with all the things that seem to separate and divide us, there is also an inescapable unity of consciousness.
Understanding Unity
This morning as I meditate upon and consider what message and teaching are important today, it is to enhance an understanding of this unity.
Ponder on and celebrate this, and know that awareness of the Oneness can create an important shift in your consciousness.
THE LAW OF ONE
We are all one.
When one is harmed, all are harmed.
When one is helped, all are healed.
Therefore, in the name of who I AM,
and I AM ONE with all;
I ask that ONLY THAT WHICH IS THE HIGHEST GOOD OF ALL
CONCERNED happen here and now and through all time and space.
I give thanks that this is done.

The human experience is defined by common needs and common desires. Once the most basic of your survival needs, such as food, water, and shelter are met, the need for safety and security emerge. This may bring you to a longing for peace. In this, you are not alone. The desire for peace is a unifying factor of unity that we can celebrate. The desire for peace is expressed throughout the world.
There is among all of humankind, a brotherhood. We share the same sun. We are pulled by the same gravity when we climb. The same stars sparkle in our sky, and we dream under the same moon. We all long for love. We all hope and dream.
Also, we are all created with a spark of Divinity within us that is beyond the name we use to describe the Divine. This unity, this oneness of the human family and the human experience, transcends all of the seeming differences and diversities of life.

Is It Us Versus Them?
As I consider all of the sorrow and sufferings that are created by the illusion of separateness, I find my eyes overflowing with tears. The unspeakable horror of war builds its justification on this illusion of separateness.
The whole mentality of dividing the world into the categories of us versus them, somehow serves to excuse doing to others things that deep in the inner reaches of the human heart go against the instinctual sense of Right Action, and Goodness.
At its core, it violates the teachings of the Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
Wherever I have traveled in the amazing world in which we live, and I have traveled both far and wide in my life, I have found in my conversations with people longing for peace, a desire for peace and an inescapable sense of accord. This shows me there are harmony and similarity of values and needs between us.
This cannot help but make me wonder if all people everywhere desire and value peace, why the cessation of war seems to be just a brief pause before the next war begins?
It seems that the politicians and world leaders know that their people desire peace, so they have come up with new ways to confuse situations by no longer calling it a war, instead they use words like conflict, action, or other synonyms for war, as peace is broken.
But no matter how the spin doctors spin things, and no matter the meaning of the different flags that get draped over the coffins of the dead, war creates appalling horror to all who are engaged in it.
To quote a popular protest poster of the 1960s in the United States,
War is not healthy for children or other living things.
This is the rallying call of a group called “Another Mother for Peace.”
It seems surprising that in a world where the common human need for safety and security is paramount, the ongoing pattern of wars and rumors of wars exists. Yet, the motivation and indeed the solution to this insanity lie in our understanding of an affirmation of our oneness, our unity.
This is not a new awareness; this is not even a contemporary thought. It is recorded in the Bhagavad Gita that the Pandava prince Arjuna, one of the greatest warriors of legend realized on the battlefield, “I can no longer war against myself.”
The Bhagavad Gita has been a significant part of spiritual literature and teachings since between the 4th and the 5th century B.C.E.
It was Arjuna’s realization of the oneness and unity of all, that stilled his bow. It is in the understanding of, and appreciation of our unity as one humanity, that our hope for peace is empowered.
Invoke Peace To Bring Unity
We know that in our world today there is far too little peace. However, we can pray for peace.
We can invoke peace in our meditations. We can unite our voices with others in invoking and meditating for peace. In this way, we all work to bring about the world we all long for.
Thus, you lend your support to world leaders everywhere to help resolve the conflicts that reinforce the illusion of separateness, which fuels fear and hatred in the world.
The antidote to fear is the truth, and the antidote to hate is Love. It is the principle of truth and the healing power of Love that you can send forth in meditation, to turn away wrath, and to heal the hurts that fuel the desire for vengeance.
You must be the change you wish to see in the world.

There are across the planet, on every continent, in every country, those who work tirelessly for peace and the benefit of humanity. They are men and women who strive to bring the Will of Good into manifestation in the world. They are the men and woman of Goodwill.
This group of Soul’s who may have never met, express their beliefs through their own religion and philosophy, yet they know and understand that there is not a religion greater than the truth, and they know that Love is the greatest law.
Their work is to bring about a better world, to create for all the opportunity to manifest the purpose of their Soul and the overall plan of evolution, the same plan that is contained within the mind of the Creator for all humanity.
Their work and purpose is beyond dogma. It is not necessary to believe in any specific belief to join and support their work for the world.
Their common work is for the common good. Their service is for the greater good of all. Their guiding question is the determination in any situation of “how is love best served?”

In this way you can support the efforts for peace in our time and also be aware of our unity and brotherhood as the one humanity.
This blessing is offered in every country of the world, in the words of every culture. Each hour as it becomes five p.m. local time, the whole world joins in the effort to support and empower those who are working for the common good of the human family.
As this blessing goes around the world it is a demonstration and a viable manifestation of one world and one humanity’s consciousness that can bring us closer to the long-desired realization of peace.
This is but one small effort and one small step that you can take. I have offered this blessing for many years. I invite you to join your heart with mine and your Soul’s effort with mine to make this world a better place.
Right here, right now, a sense of Unity and Oneness is available to you.
