In the long and rocky road of human evolution, there are times in history when it becomes necessary to take a stand.  I am saying this not as a political statement, but a spiritual declaration.

It is an inconvenient truth that there is right and there is wrong.  There is good, and there is evil.  These are not only social and political truths, but they are also spiritual truths.  These concepts are across all religions and are also revealed in the books of guidance followed by every path in life.

What I have always found to be both significant and fascinating is the agreement and commonality of the essence of these teachings about truth.  Across all of the divides of dogma and denomination that can cause argument and disagreement, the essential truth of right and wrong stands forth.  That common thread of understanding and wisdom demonstrates time and again in the human experience that we are all more alike than different.

Just as there is within each human heart and mind a certain resonance that is felt when truth is expressed, so there is an archetypal understanding of what is fair, right or just.  Even if your try to ignore it, that “felt sense” of what is right is known to you.

I believe that inner sense of knowing comes from your Soul and it cannot be completely drowned out.  No matter how much you try to bargain away this sense of inner knowing to convince yourself to go along to get along, deep in your heart and deep in your Soul, you know the truth.

This feeling of knowing comes from the spark of Divinity that separates a human being from the animal kingdom.  This spark of Divinity is what is recognized and celebrated around the world when in many cultures people greet one another with Namaste.  The Divine spark in me recognizes and honors the Divine spark in you.

You Have A Choice

Of course, over the vast history of human evolution men and women have done unspeakable horror to one another.  People have made choices and committed atrocities that are unimaginable.  You need only to look around the world to see that evil can at times win in the world.

In fact, there is a famous quote that speaks to this dilemma:

The only thing necessary for evil to triumph 
is for good men to do nothing.

This quote has been attributed to Edmond Burke, however; it has also been attributed to, as diverse political voices as, John F. Kennedy and Ronald Regan.  I find the difficulty with trying to find who originally made this quote makes my point. There is within all of us an inner voice, the voice of the Soul that knows this truth and issues a warning to everyone.

This quote, this inner voice of advice, calls from the depth of your Soul that there are times when it is important to make a stand.  At times the only right action is to take action.

Our Fathers Took A Stand

The United States forefathers understood the importance of taking a stand when Thomas Jefferson penned the immortal words:

When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary. . .

That stand that they took so long ago changed the world and influenced the progress and evolution of all of human life.

The framers of the United States Constitution understood that the subtle creative energy in the universe moves more powerfully when invoked by what you are for:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…

The values in the Declaration of Independence that our founders put forth are there to remain as a guidepost for the American people and by example, for the world.   The values of Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are now woven into the American Dream.

In those simple principles lie the seeds of The Bill of Rights and all the freedoms we as a people have enjoyed for the last 240 years.

However, throughout the history of our people there have been many times and many ways that ordinary citizens have had to stand up and be counted to make that vision a reality.  There are many times that to take a stand is the call to action from your SoulThere are times that it is necessary to stand up for what that inner voice that defines right vs. wrong, good vs. evil, truth vs. lies.

In those times, you are called to be a beacon of Light in the world.  You are called to consider what you believe, and what is important to you.

These are not light and idle considerations.  The lessons of history reveal the unspeakable horrors that can be unleashed on the world when “good men do nothing.”

It is inevitable that when you take a stand for good in the world that you stimulate and empower others to do the same.

What Do You Stand For?

What are the principles of Right Relationship for which it is important to take a stand?  What are the guidelines of right and wrong that will make a difference?  What can you do to make life better for you and the world?  These are questions worthy of pondering and taking action on!

The Ageless Wisdom guides Right Human Relationship with principles that are timeless and broad and yet possible to judge every human interaction.  They are Harmlessness and Right Speech.

A simple rule that has helped human beings make these moral decisions was probably learned in our youth but is still an excellent moral compass. It is called the “Golden Rule.”

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Familiarity may have made it easy to disregard the wisdom of this rule.  Certainly, selfishness, greed, and self-interest can make it seem archaic and irrelevant.  This simple guideline for moral behavior, as ancient as the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, still serves as a moral compass. This simple ethical consideration still works because the inner self that is the voice of your Soul that recognizes and understands right and wrong knows good from evil and can acknowledge the essential rightness of this simple rule.

Take a moment to consider what the world would be like if that simple life rule guided more of human behavior.

Take a moment to consider all of the issues you can choose to take a stand on that violate the Golden Rule.

The world seems to have lost its moral compass of following the advice that this simple rule advises.  Concepts such as honor, standing by your word, and the all to frequent excuse, “it is just business” seems to have sacrificed the concepts of fair play for the greed of a few.

But right is still right and wrong is still wrong no matter how many people do what is wrong.  Deep in your heart you know this and more importantly, deep in your Soul you know this to be true.

Time To Take A Stand

Today, I encourage you to consider your life, your values, and your relationships and consider who you are by the test of what you do.  I invite you to re-affirm the values you hold dear and decide today to stand up for what you believe is right and good in the world.

Are you someone who longs to make the world a better place?

Someone who feels a deep yearning in the depth of your being to help heal the suffering and problems of life?

If so, you are most likely a part of an energetic group that is known by the name “The New Group of World Servers.”

You may be consciously or unconsciously in this group of light workers.

There is no requirement, to be a part of this group, other than to have the Will to Good. It requires no recognition or affiliation. It is not aligned with any specific religion, yet is congruent with the deepest principles of all of the world’s religions. The only identifying factor is that you join across the planet with other Men and Woman of Goodwill.

Then let your Soul guide you in your service to others. Since the New Group of World Servers is at its core a Soul group, it focuses, through the guidance of your Soul, on serving the greater good of all humanity.

One of the ways we do this is to come together in unity at 5 p.m. across the globe, each in our own place and time zone, to send out a blessing to support this group and their work (see below.) You can make a difference in the world by joining with this effort. You are not alone!

Your blessing is magnified by other like-minded individuals who join their thoughts and intentions to make the world a better place.

Recently, I have observed among spiritual people a question, “How do I know if I am a Light Worker?” By their fruits, you shall know them, is the age old answer to that. Decision and intention are also important.

Making the decision to join in this worldwide effort, as this blessing makes its way across the planet at 5 p.m. each day, is a powerful and empowering decision to be an active participant in something greater than yourself. Something where you are in service to humanity. Something a true light worker would do.

To be doing good deeds is man’s most glorious task.

I ask you to take a few brief minutes at 5 p.m. each day to bless and thereby energetically support the work and the service of those who work for good in the world and weave in the light.

Your intention will connect you with and align you with the power of the Light.

By its very nature Light dispels the dark. This statement is a profound truth and worth pondering.

You can choose to be a part of the solution that this world needs by this simple act.

The Founding Fathers of the United States of America developed the principles of our great country as a part of an experiment in consciousness; they supported and encouraged an energetic movement in consciousness referred to by esoteric and wisdom practitioners as the “overall plan of evolution.”

Prior to Thomas Jefferson penning the immortal words “We hold these truths to be self-evident”, the truths espoused in the Declaration of Independence were anything but self-evident in the history of mankind in governance.  Most of our Founding Fathers were influenced by the thoughts and writing of what is known in the development of thought and consciousness as “The Age of Enlightenment.”

Often I have pondered on the convergence that occurred in the development of mankind that brought into incarnation such an amazing group of thinkers who emerged at the time of the American Revolution.  This movement, forward in consciousness, was spearheaded by not only one great thinker or philosopher but rather a group of like-minded men who were not only brilliant but who understood the lessons of the history of human development and the foibles of individuals.  Their willingness to incorporate the fragility of the individual and to understand the dangers of too much power in the hands of too few is seen throughout their dialog and debates.

From the wit and the wisdom of Benjamin Franklin to the poetic idealism of Thomas Jefferson and the profound pondering and thinking of John Adams these were men who were aware of the way the world worked and they worked to build in safeguards to protect this amazing republic they were crafting.  They knew well the dangers of greed and human nature.  As students of history they worked tirelessly to create a structure of government that was wise and compassionate.  Wherever possible they tried to build in safeguards, checks, and balances.

They knew that this Republic they were forming was unprecedented in the long history of humanity.  They knew the importance of these principles, these truths that they were willing to risk their lives to bring into being.  They understood that a government contained would grant unprecedented potential to future generations.

History tells us these men were willing to debate and negotiate tirelessly often far from the comfort and support of their families and loved ones until they had, through dialog and debate, chosen just the right word.

They understood the power in a word and the power of intention and the ways that thoughts have power.  They worked on and on, finding points of compromise that did not compromise their principles.  They constantly held themselves to a higher standard realizing this work in which they were engaged, this sacred task of providing governance, took sacrifice and honor, and they held themselves to that standard.

They certainly did not always agree, but they worked together until they found a point of agreement that did not violate their beliefs for the sake of expediency.  They examined the decisions that they made in the light of an understanding that the best of intentions could have unintended consequences that could be disastrous to the life and integrity of what they were creating.

If we read the letters of the times we see the struggles of these men to work together in spite of vast differences in backgrounds, economy, and values.  One theme that emerges in their writings as a constant value was their belief in the importance of honor and a sacred duty to those they gathered to represent in the present and as best they could project the implications for the future.

They knew this experiment needed organic growth and the ability to evolve and change along with the evolution and change of the citizens.  They did not always agree.  In fact, they often disagreed on not only what to do or how to do it, but even why it should even be done.  But they knew it was important to find that place of agreement, that place of unity and unification for the common good.  In reading their stories and struggles we are given a guide for our modern times.

They knew the people were capricious and selfish.  By entrusting the decisions of the future into the hands of various layers of representation and decision making they tried to develop a structure and a system that would balance out the diverse cries of the crowd.  They built in not only a series of checks and balances in the dual representation process but in the balance of powers between the branches of the government.  They built in a process that would slow the changes that could be made to the Constitution in a way that allowed the time to cool men’s passions and required thoughtful consideration of the issues at hand.

As evidenced by the famous “remember the ladies” exchange of letters between Abigail and John Adams (click here for the “remember the ladies” letters), they knew they could only move forward at a pace that was congruent with the consciousness of the times.

They warned and foresaw many dangers on that day hundreds of years ago when they risked their lives to pen their names on the Declaration of Independence.  They knew the risk.  Benjamin Franklin’s statement on that day right before they signed summed it all up, “Come now gentlemen, we must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately.”

They knew that the Republic they were forming would take vigilance to maintain as evidenced by the words of Benjamin Franklin after the signing of the Declaration of Independence; he was reportedly asked by a lady, “well doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?”  He famously replied, “a republic madam, if you can keep it.”

The responsibility of keeping a Republic vital and moral was also reflected in the words of Thomas Jefferson when he wrote “Yes, we did produce a near-perfect republic. But will they keep it? Or will they, in the enjoyment of plenty, lose the memory of freedom? Material abundance without character is the surest way to destruction.”

Our Fore Fathers knew that what they were building was only a framework for Freedom.  The Bill of Rights was still to come after the hard work of negotiating the Declaration of Independence, the work we celebrate today was the hard negotiation of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.  Throughout this process of compromise reaching common ground with representatives of diverse belief and different cultures they worked for compromise without compromising their deepest beliefs, and their “sacred honor”.

Today, and in the days to come, as we ponder this gift they gave us, let us take time out to be grateful for the sacrifices they made to create this great experiment in governance that has forever changed what humanity requires of its leaders.  They provide an example that I hope is a renewed commitment to every representative in Congress, to every representative in Senate and to every Judge in every office of the nation, and every layer of the executives of our government from the White House to Main Street in the smallest town.  You have been given a sacred honor, a sacred responsibility that is not to be dismissed for ease or expediency.
