Relieve and Release Your Anxiety

Relieve and Release Your Anxiety

Release Your Anxiety with Genevieve Gerard

Anxiety in life is a problem.

It’s estimated that approximately 10 percent of teenagers and 40 percent of adults suffer from anxiety of some kind in the United States.

Globally, 1 in 13 suffers from anxiety

Surprisingly women are twice as likely to be affected as men according to the Anxiety and Depression Association

According to the Anxiety Centre,

Those who have an anxiety may show these conditions:

  • Regularly feel overwhelmed
  • Feel nervous in many social situations
  • Are more often sick
  • Regularly feel unsettled
  • Often feel out of control of their health and life
  • Experience higher levels of overall stress
  • Often struggle with low self-esteem
  • Read more anxiety conditions…
  • Have difficulty managing pressure
  • Have higher expectations of themselves and others
  • Feel returned love is performance-based
  • Often have unhealthy boundaries
  • Are often workaholics
  • Often have unhealthy relationships
  • Visit the doctor more often
  • Tax the medical system (with frequent trips to their doctor or emergency rooms)
  • Are more likely to take medications
  • Are more likely to have other health problems
  • Are overall more unhappy
  • Experience erratic emotional behaviors
  • Feel disconnected or detached from reality and life
  • Often feel they are just on the edge of losing control
  • Often aren’t reliable (because their symptoms may prevent them from following through)
  • Become inward focused and dwell on their health condition and personal problems
  • May jump from relationship to relationship in search of perfection
  • May jump from job to job because of higher levels of stress
  • Live a restricted lifestyle (within their self-imposed “safe zones”)
  • Feel life is passing them by
  • Question their faith and God’s presence in their lives
  • Feel at a distance from God
  • Often quick to get angry

Only 10 percent with anxiety receive effective help

Unfortunately, they also state that only 10% of those suffering from anxiety receive effective help.

I believe that the issue on which you may have focused anxiety is actually focused on an illusion around which you have woven sufficient energy through your fears that it can feel very real.

It is important to realize that feeling something is real does not make it realIt is important to recognize this when you want to conquer your anxiety.

If you sit quietly and examine your thoughts and feelings that are fueling your anxiety, you will most likely realize that it is a lot of projections that begin by imagining “what if ____ happens?”

That awareness begins to unravel the substance of the anxiety to allow you to be free from it when you realize that whatever you are imagining has not happened, and may not likely happen.

You must remember that your fears and your anxiety are a projection of your mind, mixed in with your imagination, not only about what “could happen” but often what you imagine others could be thinking or feeling.

None of your imaginings are real or true.

Realizing that your anxiety and the thoughts and emotions that are creating and fueling your anxiety are neither real or the truth, is a first step in relieving yourself from the tyranny of anxiety with which you are torturing yourself.

It might sound strange but a way to relieve your anxiety is to understand the principles of how the Universe works.

Unfortunately, when you suffer from anxiety, you are using a Universal Law that “Energy Follows Thought.” That principle, that Law, is a gift and when rightly used can empower you to stand as a co-creator with the Creator and manifest the life of your dreams.

The Universal Law that energy follows thought becomes distorted and destructive when you let your fears use this dynamic creative energy to create a web and maze that begins to take on the substance of matter to lock you into your thoughts and mind.

By using the creative power of your imagination, you can, unfortunately, feed your fears and fundamental distrust of life until your anxiety is so painful and intense that it can control your life.  However, you can use the same principle to free yourself from your anxiety.

The Law that energy follows thought is real manifests from an aspect of the Law of Attraction.  However, when you are trapped in the emotional experience of anxiety, you have turned that power against yourself.

Anxiety is the result of creating in your emotional body and mind, all of the horrors and nightmares you can imagine, and being an intelligent and creative being, you can imagine a lot.

The Keys To Free Yourself From Anxiety

The question with which you are faced with if you suffer from anxiety is how to free yourself from that trap?  The most powerful tool that you can wield when experiencing anxiety is the TRUTH.

Discriminating between what is real vs. what is created by fear, worry and anxiety is the key to freeing you from being trapped by the tyranny of your emotions and your mind.

Asking yourself for a reality check is a dynamic tool for relieving anxiety.  Is this real?  Did it happen? Or, am I just projecting and imagining what could happen?

The power of your thought is to create, however; you can have control over your thoughts.

Even though the creative power of your mind can be incredible, the illusion can feel so real that you can feel powerless to release it.  I believe because your anxiety is created by emotional and astral energy, it cannot manifest in the world of matter.

The key words in this thought are that it “feels real.”  Just because something feels real does not make it real.  So one of the steps in relieving anxiety is to begin to be aware that the feeling is an illusion.  That does not mean that doesn’t seem real, but appearing real and being real is different.

The good news for you, if you suffer from anxiety, is that you have proved that you have a compelling mental body.  When you learn to use that force for you rather than against yourself you can use it activate your power to manifest your dreams and desires.

To release yourself from the tangled web of emotions and fears that have kept you trapped inside the web of anxiety you have woven, you need to understand how to use your creative energy.

Once you have allowed your fears to form and to become so much substance it produces anxiety, it is critical to shift and engage in the process of transmutation, transformation and ultimately transcendence.

That power is yours.  That ability is uniquely yours.

The truth is that there is no actual stress or anxiety in the world; it’s your thoughts that create these false beliefs. You can’t package stress, touch it, or see it. There are only people engaged in stressful thinking.
                          – Wayne Dyer

You can relieve and release your feelings of anxiety by applying a test of truth to them.

Doing that works with the laws of energy that respect the fact that whereas you cannot destroy energy, you can change its form.

When you change its form, you can relieve your anxiety and release your fears.  Once you have done this, you can use the creative talent that you honed to perfection in creating anxiety to create the life you desire.

You can use the same Universal Law and power that you turned against yourself to gain mastery of your life.

Relieving anxiety and transmuting, transforming and transcending the emotion of fear that underlies and is interwoven within it requires a conscious choice.

To help you with that choice I have created a short simple visualization exercise to start to relieve and release your anxiety.

Relieve and Release Your Anxiety Visualization

Click play icon below to listen to me reading this visualization to you (under 2 minutes)..

Sit quietly and begin to breathe deeply.

Fill your lungs from the bottom up, first relaxing your stomach muscles.  As you take more and more air into your lungs, let your chest expand and fill.

Then let the air expand into the upper part of your lungs even raising your shoulders a bit topping off your breath.

Imagine a flock of white birds before you.  These are healing birds, here to take your anxiety away.

As you breathe out give your breath to this healing flock of birds.  Let them absorb your anxieties and fears until you have no more air in your lungs to offer them.

Now, imagine, visualize, see them flying away.  They are flying higher and higher, further and further away from you until they are out of sight, and out of mind.

Now let your breath return to normal.  You may be aware of how much more peaceful and calm you feel, right now.

You can do this little exercise whenever you need to release your anxiety.

Tools to Release Your Fears and Anxieties

There is, in the teachings of the Ageless Wisdom a meditation technique that works to calm strong emotions and transmute fears and doubts.

It is a technique that I used in my own spiritual life hundreds of times a day to gain mastery over my fears and anxieties.

I Am Feeling Free Meditation by Genevieve Gerard

It is such a powerful and life-transforming technique that I created two guided meditations to teach it. 1.) A shorter and simpler version called “I Am Feeling Free” and 2.) A longer and more detailed version called “Feeling Free.”

These meditations, once you learn how to move the energy with intention, can be done in less than a minute.

They can also be done as you move through your daily life to release your fears and anxieties as soon as you become aware that you are becoming trapped by them.  What is great is that no one else can see you or know you are using them.  It puts you in control of your feelings.

You move the energy with the power of your mind, your intention, your will, your breath and the engagement of your Higher Self.

You are, with these brief meditations able to exercise your control in your life, over your mind and emotions.  It is your power to use.

Becoming free of your anxiety, freeing your life from the tyranny of fear will change your life.

Unweaving the web of anxiety that you have built and created takes using these tools that have been handed down by those who guided humanity on the path of enlightened awareness for eons.

These meditative tools are now available to help you master your fears and anxieties so you can be and become all that you are meant to be, that you can live the life of your dreams and fulfill your Soul’s purpose in this life.

Know that meditation can be the portal to your Soul (your Higher Self).  You can use the power of your Soul to free you from your anxiety and fears and to empower you to use your mind as a force for good in your life and good in the world.

Isn’t today the day you would like to begin the process of unraveling the illusions and fears that have kept you trapped within your anxieties?  There is no better time than Right NOW to Take Control of your life.

Your intention to transform your life and heal your life is an excellent place to start.

Your fears do not serve or help you.  And, indeed, your anxieties do not serve you or empower you.

It is your choice to make, but it is both possible and advantageous for you to choose mastery over this life challenge.

Today is the day, and now is the moment that you can choose to live your life freeing yourself, being and becoming your whole self.

Slaying My Dragon of Loneliness

Slaying My Dragon of Loneliness

Fairy Tales are more than true: not because they tell us dragons are true, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.”
      – Neil Gaiman

Read "Slaying My Dragon of Loneliness" Wisdom Wednesday blog by Genevieve Gerard

Recently, one of my coaching clients identified her fear of being alone in life or more importantly being lonely as an underlying issue in her life.

My client is a successful professional woman who has never married and finds the prospect of continuing her life as a woman alone frightening.

She is aware that to be alone is preferable to being in a negative or abusive relationship.

In fact, she recently faced that decision and choice with great strength and courage when a man to whom she was engaged became emotionally abusive and his labile emotions and outbursts had her constantly on edge.

She could certainly see, as many have seen, that being in a relationship does not protect you from feeling lonely. In fact, during my own struggles with loneliness I realized that as difficult as it was at times to be alone, that was preferable to a relationship where you felt alone; isolated and separated from someone you cared for, loved or expected to fill that void within you that loneliness created.

In my life these issues reached a pinnacle when my career took me to a new City where I had neither friends nor family and then changed in an unexpected manner so that I was working from home with no social engagement. There I was not only alone but forced to come face to face with what I began to call my dragon of loneliness.

I had, by that time read a sufficient number of self-help books, both psychological and spiritual to know that I “should” be able to sustain and nourish myself sufficiently to not suffer from my loneliness. But I never found that knowing or determining that I should not feel something ever gave me freedom from an emotion. Fortunately for me, meditation was a well-ingrained practice in my life at this time, so I was able to gain some perspective on life beyond my emotional turmoil, but still I suffered from the loneliness and isolation that had become my life.

Holidays were, of course, the worst and all those days when I “should” be with others or “should be happy.” Attempts to go to the homes or celebrations of other peoples families often left me feeling more bereft and lonely than to just stay home and be alone because it confronted me with what I wanted but did not have in my life.

Often, at night, in my dreams I began to wrestle with this problem in the symbolic form that dreams often take. Night after night, time after time, I would in a terrifying and threatening dream be attacked by a dragon that in my dream I knew to be a symbol of my loneliness. Night after night, time after time, I would battle the dragon, often defeating it. Frequently cutting off its ugly head only to have it either grow more heads like a Hydra either in the same dream or when the dragon next appeared.

During the day, while I had work to fill my time I often felt isolated but not really so lonely. The most difficult times were unscheduled evenings, weekends and of course holidays. The rest of the time my life was busy enough that I did not experience the underlying loneliness so badly, but, somehow it was always there as a reminder that I was ultimately alone.

The dragon dreams became a frequent part of my nighttime sleep adventures. It seems that no matter how dramatically and thoroughly I battled and ultimately defeated the dragon in my dream, it would emerge again hail and healthy ready for battle. Because of the pervasive pressure of the dreams and the circumstances of my life as a woman alone, I began to consider frequently the issue of the difference between being alone and feeling lonely.

I realized that just to be with people did not protect me from feeling lonely. It is possible to feel lonely in a crowd and in many ways that is even more devastating than being lonely when you are alone. I began to see in the lives of many around me how the fear of loneliness led many to make poor life choices, accepting in relationships being demeaned, disrespected and abused just so they would not be alone.

I realized that conquering this dynamic in my life was very important. I often pondered what made the difference between feeling lonely and simply being alone? I came to the conclusion that the key resided in my expectations. It seemed I felt most lonely at those times and events where I believed that I “should” be with others, where personal or societal norms dictated that I “shouldn’t” be alone. I “should” be in a happy family.

In other times I found I was quietly able to nourish and enjoy my time alone. It was these expectation times that were painful. I began to realize that loving myself and liking myself were essential elements in not feeling lonely. I found that journaling was a great way to resolve painful emotions as the very act of writing down my feelings shifted my perspective and expanded my understanding.

You can not be lonely when you like the person you are alone with.”
      – Wayne Dyer

I began to wonder why I thought I “should” have circumstances in my life different from what they were. I began to accept that my life at that time was the way it was and not “should” on myself. I began to see that the tendency to approach my life with the phrases “Should have,” “I could have,” or even “I ought to” were toxic. They led to disappointment and dissatisfaction. They prevented me from appreciating and enjoying what I had as everything fell short of the desires and expectations I projected onto an event.

The way that desire created suffering became very clear. The way that projecting onto life events the expectations that accompany the words “should,” “could” and “ought” brought me out of the present moment. Most importantly it made it difficult, if not impossible, to appreciate and enjoy what was really happening in my life because I held life up to unrealistic illusionary and imaginary standards forged by movie films and book novels that were created in the mind but rarely lived.

A significant breakthrough in all of my thoughts and ponderings on all of these issues came to me as a Thanksgiving Holiday approached. I had already decided that I would not join my friend’s family gathering that had historically concluded in my feeling more lonely and dissatisfied when confronted with what I did not have in my life. I decided to spend Thanksgiving Day alone. Stripped of the projection of what I “should” experience I reasoned that Thanksgiving was a day like any other so I determined to spend it at home, alone.

I had a peaceful fire in the fireplace, I lingered over my coffee. I made a special breakfast for myself. I had a relaxing and very peaceful bubble bath (in fact it was where I created the basis of what today is my Bathing in the Light Meditation product.)

It was a luxurious way to indulge myself. I nourished, honored and demonstrated love for myself that whole day, and amazingly was not lonely or sad the whole day. It was one of the most freeing and significant days in my life.

That night I had another Dragon Dream. The Dragon began to approach me in the dream, but as he approached I did not take up my sword to battle and defeat him. I became fascinated by watching him approach as I noticed the multicolored radiance of his scales. As he got closer I realized that his scales were made of jewels.

Slaying My Dragon of Loneliness - Genevieve Gerard Wisdom Wednesday

Still fascinated and amazed by the beauty of his radiant jewels I let him approach, not afraid, just curious and accepting. As he drew closer and closer he wrapped his serpentine body around me. I realized that he and I together looked like a caduceus. His dragon wings were behind me and his fire breathing head centered over my heart.

A rainbow appeared in the sky above my head. I awoke feeling restored and refreshed. I realized as I wrote in my journal the next morning that this dream marked a significant transition in my life for I could now enjoy and appreciate my time alone, free from the loneliness that had challenged me for so long.

My ability to be alone and nurture and sustain myself became a strength that stayed with me even when my life changed, to a married woman and mother.

The freedom from “shoulds and oughts” has become a cornerstone in my teaching others ways to live in joy. Since that time having time alone has been a source of strength as I have learned to nurture myself.

Learning to love myself and freeing myself of the expectations of “should” have made a huge difference in my life and in my ability to be happy.

Are you ready to truly love yourself and take time out to nourish yourself by washing away your troubles and feel restored, refreshed and rebalanced? If so take some time this week to purify the deepest pains inside of you and cleanse and soothe your mind, body, and soul on all levels.

You deserve to love and indulge yourself and slay your dragon of loneliness.

Namaste,

   Genevieve
