What Your Soul Can Do For You Today

Awaken to your Soul by reading What Your Soul Can Do For You Today by Genevieve Gerard

This article is part of my ongoing series on Soul Awakening.

Your Soul, also often referred to as your Higher Self, is an integral part of who you are and what you are.

You probably believe you have a Soul, yet, your Soul is probably something which you give very little or no thought or attention.

Perhaps, as a child, you said a nighttime prayer as you memorized the words of a famous children’s prayer Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep.

But now, as an adult, the concept of having a Soul may not cross your mind.

If you are a participant of A.A. (Alcoholics Anonymous) or N.A. (Narcotics Anonymous), you may have wondered about step 2 of turning your life over to a Higher Power.

You may even have relegated the concept of your Soul to only matter as the eternal part of you that only matters when you die.  Then you may imagine your Soul may go to heaven, or return to God.

Welcome To The Beauty Of Your Soul

Today, I would like to make you aware of your Soul as a dynamic, active and vital part of your life.  A part of your life that can make you more healthy, joyful, and empowered.

I would like to introduce you to your Soul, not as something you tuck away to call upon as your life is fading away.  I would like to introduce you to your Soul as a source of wisdom, a portal to divine energy that can impact and influence every day of your life starting today.

I would like to bring you into awareness of a tool that can help you every day in your life.  I would like to introduce you to your Higher Self and encourage you to begin a lifelong adventure of integration and awareness that will change your life for the better, that will ultimately awaken your life.

Your Soul is more than simply the part of you that is eternal and therefore grants you access to eternal life when your material body fails and fades.

Your Soul is designed to be an active part of the wholeness of your being.  It exists to be a resource engaged in your life adventure, a companion on the quest for love, for success and happiness.

Empowerment

The reason that A.A. and N.A. teach that it is important to turn your life over to a Higher Power is that by so doing you are empowered.  You are empowered by the part of you that has always been there, and will always be there to help and support you, your own Soul. You just need to awaken it.

Your Soul is not separate from God; however, you define God to be, because your Soul is the spark of Divine Light that was granted to you as you became an individuated life.

It is the part of your anatomy that maintains a connection that is eternal.  No matter what you do.  No matter how many mistakes you make.  No matter if you stumble or fall, that connection cannot be severed.

Your Soul, like God, always works for goodIt has the power to heal you once you have learned whatever life lessons dis-ease may have entered your life to teach you.  From the perspective of eternity and the Divine, your life experience is designed to teach and empower you to reach higher states of consciousness.

Major Life Lessons

The Ageless Wisdom speaks of these life lessons regarding your Soul giving you the power and strength to overcome your lower urges driven by your material nature, to greater Soul control as four major life lessons.

In each of these four major life challenges, it is your Soul that stands by to help and support you in transcending the lure or temptation of your lower (animal) self.

These four major life lessons can be broken down into:

  1. Overcome the Desires of the Flesh – the physical part of your nature. Among these are the needs and urges that are sometimes called the seven deadly sins.  They include Lust, Gluttony, Avarice or Greed, Sloth or Laziness, Wrath, Envy or Pride.  I would like to re-frame these seven human challenges as the issues you are faced with in life.

Although these are sometimes called sins, I consider that they are simply the result of selfish and self-centered identification.  They are tendencies and mistakes that you make when you see yourself as separate from others and separate from God.

  1. Managing Emotions – Inherent in life lessons are also learning to manage emotions by learning to transmute, transform and transcend fear, anger, jealousy, and Ego.

  2. Mastering the Thoughts of Your Mind – Overcoming worries, fears, negative self-talk and limiting beliefs.

  3. Surrendering to Your Spiritual Nature – Using your Soul to integrate and master your physical, emotional and mental full lower natures (ego.)

Because these are the urges and desires of your physical and emotional nature, your Soul is ready, willing and able to help you gain mastery over these aspects of life so you can learn what it is to express Love.

The Nature of Your Soul is Love

Learning to Love is what your life adventure is about.  If you break down the seven deadly sins, they can all be summarized as not expressing the highest form of Love.

As learning how to Love is the business of life, so teaching you how to Love and opening you to Love is the business of the Soul in your life.
                  – Genevieve Gerard

Your Soul is available to help you transmute, transform and transcend any and all aspects of your lower-self that keep you separated from the highest forms of love.  Among these lower-aspects are addictions to alcohol, food, sex, cigarettes or drugs.  The power of your Soul to empower you to conquer these urges is why all of the Anonymous programs encourage step 2 in the A.A. model.

Connecting with your Soul and surrendering your addiction to the healing power of your Soul gives you the strength and ability to conquer physical desires and cravings.

Likewise, being guided by your Soul frees you from the emotional attachments of desire that led the Buddha to acknowledge that life was suffering and that attachment was the cause of the suffering.  Attachment is not love, although it can easily get confused with Love.

Love is life’s greatest gift.  Love is life’s greatest blessing.  Love is eternal.  It is perhaps the one thing we can create as material beings that open us to our eternal and Divine nature.

Your Soul can guide you to learning to Love, not the “sticky and needy” love of attachment, but rather the freeing and inspiring Love of the Spirit.  It is that which is eternal, empowering and life transforming.

Your Soul is a resource to empower you to be all that you can be.  Through Soul Awakening, you are open to who you truly are as a “child of God” who is also the “Son of Man (Human).”  It is your Soul that keeps you connected with God, and with the whole heavenly realm of angelic beings.  It is your Soul that is your internal and external source of truth and wisdom.

Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.
                  – Rumi

By activating and engaging in a conscious awakening of your Soul, you activate peace, love, and joy in your life.  By surrendering to the wisdom of your Soul in times of trouble and confusion, temptation or terror, you are opening to living life abundantly.

I leave you today with a little Mantram of Unification I have adapted that you may find helpful to affirm out loud daily:

I let my Soul control my outer form in my life and all events so it may bring to Light the Love that underlies the happenings of time.

Let wisdom come with insight.  Let the future stand revealed.  Let inner wisdom demonstrate and any outer illusions be gone.  Let Love prevail in my life.

May all know love.

Your Soul is Always an Integral Part of Who You Are

Your Soul is Always an Integral Part of Who You Are

Read Your Soul is Always an Integral Part of Who You Are article by Genevieve Gerard

This article is part of my ongoing series on the Soul.

As I was reading a previous post, I came across the phrase “a life that is soul infused.”

The phrase “a life that is Soul infused” stayed with me in my morning meditations because in this dance through life’s adventures it is when you can let your personality and ego be infused by the love and wisdom of the Soul that the real power and resounding joy of a spiritual life are experienced.

It led me to ponder how life is different when you are “Soul infused.”

In the teachings of the Ageless Wisdom, your Soul is not only an integral part of your essential nature but is also a resource you can draw upon to empower and transform your life.  That your Soul provides support and power in the overcoming of physical addictions has long been an essential element in the success of Alcoholics Anonymous 12-step programs.  The connection and surrender to the “Higher Self and Higher Power” have been a source of strength and comfort to many who have struggled with addiction.

This transition is so deeply embedded in the spiritual journey that the Ageless Wisdom refers to it as a step in your spiritual evolutionWith each spiritual initiation, there is an increasing amount of atomic energy that the Soul gains control over.  The first initiation helps and supports you in achieving mastery over your physical cravings.

Likewise, what is referred to in the Ageless Wisdom as the second initiation the individual can use their Soul influence to transcend the domination of the emotional body.  This use of your Soul as an integral part of learning life lessons is esoteric.  It clarifies ways you can gain mastery over your life through a dynamic and active relationship with your higher self, your Soul.  It takes you from being powerless in your physical cravings or vulnerable to your emotions and desires to being able to integrate and fuse the wholeness of your being in a way that allows you to manifest your full potential as a human being.

As I write these words and consider the struggle and pain that life is for so many, I cannot help but take this opportunity to assure you that within you, within the depth of your heart, within the promptings of your intuition, within the essence of your being, is your Soul.  It is and has always been with you.  Your Soul has always been a part of you.  And, most miraculously you can call upon it to help you in your life.

If, before reading these words you have through your life come to know your Soul, even in glimmers of peace and comfort that may have come to you when you prayed or meditated, then these words will resonate with you.  You might find a smile coming spontaneously to your lips.  You could feel yourself relax a bit even though nothing has changed in your life at all.

What it is empowering to understand about yourself and your Soul is that although your Soul is an essential part of your spiritual anatomy, it is most often silent allowing your personality and “lower self” to control your life.  Free will, which is an essential part of the “rules” of spiritual life require that you reach for the connection to your Soul before it gets involved

To have a relationship with your Soul is a choice.
        – Genevieve Gerard

In times of great sorrow, great duress, and great danger it is common in the human experience for you to reach out for that higher source connection unconsciously.  Since you are on an archetypal and intuitive level aware that your Soul is an integral part of who and what you are, this is natural.  Your consciousness is, on an ongoing basis most likely functioning as a duality that exists between your Soul and your personality ( and ego.)  What is most often the wisdom and perspective of your “Higher Self” is often unconscious.

Flashes of intuition and awareness of what is right action bargain for control of what you do and say.  Your Soul is always available to respond to your invitation and invocation.  Otherwise, it stands silently by as you explore the university of learning life and spiritual lessons from your mistakes and mishaps.

The Soul does not interfere.  It may give flashes of insight through intuition, but it leaves the control for what decisions you make firmly in the hands of your personality and ego so that can choose to listen to the intuitive nudge, or not.

Ultimately, in your life, there is a myriad of choices that need to be made.  They fall into choices you make that relate to the key aspects of your anatomy.

There are many choices and options.  There are decisions of what you eat or drink.  Decisions about whether or not you choose to indulge in the vast variety of things that are known to be bad for your body, whether or not they are addictive.  There are throughout your day a bevy of seemingly insignificant decisions that have an impact.

There are emotional choices you make.  How you express or limit your expression of your emotions has a significant impact on your life.   These are all selections you make throughout every moment and day of your life and how you make them influences your experience in a way that little else can.

Whether you are trapped in your fears or worries effects your health and your overall well-being and your personal happiness.  Your emotional choices have a dynamic influence on your life and so, calling upon the guidance and wisdom of your Soul as you strive to manage and master these volatile and dramatic parts of your being make sense.

There is also a myriad of choices you continually make that activate your mental powers.  As I have written many times in a variety of ways your thoughts are energy released into the world that has creative and magnetic power“Energy Follows Thought.”  Even in the most ancient of times, spiritual teachings from the Bible (Proverbs 23:7) declare “As a man thinketh so shall he be.”

As I review each of the parts of your nature and being that influence who you are, how you live and what you experience it is evident to see that your Soul can help you master every area of your life.  The incredible miracle of your nature as a human being who has been endowed by your creator with the spark of Divine Light (your Soul) is that integrated into your nature is a resource to help you through all of life’s challenges.  That is your Soul.

Expressing your Divine Spark; is a significant way to demonstrate your love and your service to others.

Your Soul is uniquely yours and always available to you to help you, guide you, support you, and empower you.  It offers you unconditional love and understanding.  It is a limitless resource that is available to you whenever you need it.

You can open your life to this love, this source of wisdom and this Divine blessing through meditation, prayer, and contemplation.

Your Soul speaks to you in the silence, through your intuition, in your dreams, and through your consciousness.
      – Genevieve Gerard

Your Soul is always an integral part of who you are.  The more you can recognize the voice of your Soul within your being, the easier it is to let the Soul’s perspective of love and wisdom direct your life decisions, physical, emotional and mental.

In so doing you invoke and invite “Soul control” and Soul infusion into the miraculous blend of your life.

There are words from the Mantram of Unification I like to use in my meditations and invocations that talks to this way of living.  I invite you to add them to your affirmations or meditations when and where you will.

Let the Soul control the outer form, and life and all events,
And bring to light the love that underlies the happenings of the times.
      – Alice A. Bailey (Djwhal Khul – Discipleship in the New Age Vol II)

If moved to do so, you can also invoke the balance of the mantra, “Let vision come and insight.  Let the future stand revealed.  Let inner wisdom demonstrate, and outer cleavages be gone.  Let love prevail.  Let all men and women love.”

I find this mantram empowers and influences my life in dynamic and dramatic ways. I encourage you to take a few moments throughout every day to connect with your Soul so that you can lead a life that is Soul infused.

Namaste,

   Genevieve

Easter Ponderings on Resurrection

Easter Ponderings on Resurrection

Read Easter Ponderings on Resurrection article by Genevieve Gerard

On Easter, we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus.

There is perhaps no more miraculous event in the story of the life of Jesus than the resurrection. There is perhaps no part of Jesus’s story that fills the human heart with hope and promises more than the resurrection.

The very possibility of resurrection defies the laws of matter as we understand them. Resurrection is the ultimate victory over death. Resurrection is the triumph of spirit over matter. It is a mystery that is beyond our comprehension, and it is a mystery that is not explained in either the Bible or church teachings in any century or denomination. In spite of the inability to understand the miracle of resurrection, the very possibility and promise of it fill the human heart with joy.

During this time while churches across the planet celebrate with the powerful words “He is risen,” “He is risen indeed” it may be valuable to ponder upon what the resurrection says about the life of Jesus and what it says about our spiritual journey and spiritual responsibility. It is all too easy for you to dismiss the lessons of the life of Jesus as unrelated to your life. After all, He was the Son of God. He had an edge that you do not have.

From my very early forays into theology, it has been clear that what Jesus demonstrated in His life, His example and His mission was more than historical stories and miracle stories. These stories were an example and teaching that had relevance for how we were instructed to live our lives, to find our way in the spiritual journey.

There is no greater mystery in the life of Jesus than the miracle of resurrection. Even those of deep and unwavering faith can affirm that the resurrection was real and is real without understanding how it was possible.

I believe even Jesus’s most beloved disciples and the women who went to his tomb on Easter morning, may not have fully understood the resurrection at the time. Thomas, whose very name became associated with doubt, refused to believe in the resurrection unless he placed his hands into the wounds made by the crucifixion. Even though the story tells us, that Jesus was walking and teaching His disciples after his passion.

To understand both the miracle of the Resurrection and what was being demonstrated about the nature of life, we need to expand our understanding of the nature of life itself; and, more importantly, the nature of matter, the nature of consciousness and most importantly, the nature of the Soul.
        – Genevieve Gerard

In some ways, the event of Resurrection is entirely miraculous, testing and at times transcending our ability to believe. In some ways, the Resurrection is no more miraculous than the event of life itself. I believe to glimpse what Resurrection promises we must expand our understanding of the nature of life to way beyond our usual comprehensions. We must open our awareness to the eternal nature of our Soul, to the great potentiality of consciousness, and stop limiting our thinking to the dense matter of our physical vehicle.

If you are a Christian, think of the Christ, who came not to be served by others but to serve them in joy, in peace, and in generosity. For these things, these are not mere words, but acts, which go all the way, right up to their last breath. Even their death is a gift, and resurrection is born from this kind of death.
        – Jean-Yves Leloup

Much that is miraculous, much that is mysterious, becomes possible and more understandable when we assert the fact that although we have a body; we are as a consciousness much more than a body. For the Soul to manipulate the atoms of matter to create a physical body once the material body has deteriorated is a repetition of the events that the Soul engages in to bring into life and substance every child that is born. The principle is the same. It is the consciousness, or particularly the continuity of the consciousness that Christ brought to his resurrected body.

The miracle of life itself and the miracle of the resurrection is entirely under the direction of the Soul. What is to me the most important part of the Passion of Jesus is what it teaches us as spiritual beings about the relationship with our Soul. What Jesus demonstrated that we can use as an example for our own lives was complete obedience to not only the direction of His Soul but perfect obedience to Divine Will.

It is evident in the stories of His suffering in Gesthenemeny that He was coming from two very different perspectives. He was demonstrating both his personal life and His Soul life. Certainly he did not want to be arrested, scourged and crucified from his human perspective. Whether He as a personality knew or fully understood the importance of the next few days of His life is something that theologians will probably be discussing and arguing about for the next 2 thousand years.

What is important and significant is not if he had pre-knowledge of the significance of His sacrifice and all of the magical and mystical ramifications of it. What it seems is important is the obedience to His Soul and God that he demonstrated. That is a lesson that we can strive to achieve in our own lives and our own journey.

What is certainly clear if we examine the life of Jesus is that he was in touch with the direction and promptings of His Soul and through that relationship in an ever growing relationship with God who He came to regard not only as the Source of Love in his life but as His Heavenly Father. He taught us not only that “God is Love,” but also oneness with the Divine as He taught “I and the Father are One.” These are an understanding and awareness that only comes from the Soul. This is an understanding and awareness that is achievable by developing a relationship with your Soul.

It is a magnificent miracle of the human experience that we exist in a dual relationship with our material human body, with our emotions and our thoughts, while we have a Soul which is eternal. These different parts of our nature are revealed and direct our life in different ways. Indeed, learning to identify the prompting of your Soul from the desires of your personality is a big part of the spiritual journey. Learning to call upon and utilize the power of your Soul or the power of the Soul of another in healing is a lesson taught time and time again in the spiritual life, especially when your life is dedicated to others.

It is through surrender to the Soul that the body, emotions, mind, and integrating efforts of the personality can come into awareness of the eternal essence of your being.
        – Genevieve Gerard

In my Easter morning ponderings on the resurrection, I find it inescapable to realize that the miracle of resurrection is the secondary result of the surrender to the Soul. It is through surrender to the Soul that the body, emotions, mind, and integrating efforts of the personality can come into awareness of the eternal essence of your being.

Through a relationship with your Soul, especially in the decision to “let the Soul control” is a new awareness of how miracles are created. It is through the time you live and demonstrate the dual life of a disciple that the life and example of Jesus become most edifying and significant. It is through the expanded awareness that life and consciousness are not limited to your physical body that the whole concept of resurrection becomes a real possibility.

While what was demonstrated in the Resurrection remains beyond the strength and determination of most of us at the time of our death, stories are told throughout time of a loved one appearing to communicate after physical death, usually a message of love and reassurance to those they have left behind. If we consider the Resurrection of Jesus one more demonstration, one more instruction about the unlimited possibility and potentiality of life, and we open our hearts and minds actually to consider what all of this means, we are reassured that death has no victory, and the life of the Soul is eternal.

It is by pondering what the Resurrection demonstrated about the truth of life, the nature of life and the eternal nature of life that we are freed from the fears that our limited comprehension fosters.

The possibility and promise that Easter gives, even if we fail to understand it fully, is the joy and assurance that consciousness is eternal. We, as the children of God and the carriers of the spark of the Divine enjoy that eternity as a part of our birthright. In the Resurrection, the life of Jesus once more demonstrated to us, as he did throughout his life, what we truly are. So we celebrate with joy the life and the teachings of this master of enlightenment, pondering what his resurrection teaches us about our life, our own Soul and the awesome potential of our own consciousness. Let there be light!

Namaste,

     Genevieve

Be Receptive To the Guidance of Your Soul

Be Receptive To the Guidance of Your Soul

– Connecting with Your Higher Self for Life Advice

Read Be Receptive To the Guidance of Your Soul blog post by Genevieve Gerard

Recently in a discussion with one of my coaching clients, we explored how to access the guidance and wisdom of your Soul for practical advice.

She was seeking revelation about the life challenges she was currently facing. She thought to receive this kind of clear information was the practical application of spirituality. My client insisted this desire is the reason that spirituality has relevance.

This conversation made me consider her point of view. Particularly, I wondered, what can you do to enhance and empower receiving guidance and direction from your Higher Self? Of equal importance, is the question what can interfere with receiving Soul guidance in your life? That led me to consider the process of receiving guidance and direction from your Soul as a practical real-life issue.

I believe your Soul is not only a part of you but it also a partner in your life. It has a vested interest in helping you learn and grow. However, from the perspective of your personality, the way that it provides the situations and circumstances from which you learn and grow are often not what you want. It is not always clear what is right or best to do.

You learn and grow in so many different ways. This issue seems to need some clarification. In my many years of life coaching, I have led individuals through many meditations in which they reached their Soul for guidance. There are some patterns I have observed. What is most revealing is how much of the preparation for the meditation is just a litany of what the seeker wants or more importantly what they don’t want.

I find it significant that often the answer that emerges as received in meditation is just a repetition of their hopes and desires that were expressed while preparing to meditate. That seems to be a clear signal that it is not the direction of the Soul they received, but rather their desires and their attachments speaking. In considering this result, I am reminded of the words of My Fair Lady, “she’ll listen very nicely then go out and do precisely what she wants.” It is all too easy to project your attachment and desire and then, because you meditated, assume that you have contacted and listened to the wisdom of your Soul.

Not only is this true but in the process of having asked for guidance, it is easy to have the expectation that your Soul is now responsible for what happens. The logical conclusion of this “magical thinking” is that the role of the Soul is to be a kind of “Fairy God Mother” who manipulates the world of matter to make your life easier and more compatible with your desires. I believe this is simply not true.

You can see this kind of “magical thinking” all over the internet and especially on Facebook with the number of abundance posts in which you are asked to type “Yes” to a positive meme graphic about prosperity or miracles. The implication is that by simply typing “Yes” you need only to sit back and receptively wait for the miracle you desire to happen.

This kind of “magical thinking” is a misunderstanding of the Law of Abundance and the principle that “energy follows thought.” It is no wonder that people become discouraged and confused.

What is missing in this kind of “magical thinking” is the role and responsibility of the personality. Whereas it is true that “energy follows thought” it is important to understand that this vital principle is not something you just turn on when you type “Yes” or “Amen” in response to a photo with an inspirational statement; then turn off all of the other thoughts in your mind.

What you do makes a difference. Your dreams, your thoughts, your plans and your goals are all an integral part of success.

Cherish your visions and your dreams, as they are the children of your soul, the blueprints of your ultimate achievements.
           – Napoleon Hill

Indeed, meditation helps you to harness the power of your mind. Likewise, the Law of Attraction is activated and enhanced by all of the “Positive Mental Attitude” techniques you may use and employ. However, if you do these things only intermittently; that is exactly how they will work, intermittently.

If you ask, affirm or pray for abundance because you are afraid, you are using these principles to fuel the manifestation of what you fear. This is true even when you pray if what is in your mind while you are praying is fear. Worrying, I have often said, is like praying for what you don’t want. Saying a prayer in desperation without surrendering to Divine Will is an attempt to manipulate God. I don’t think that is how it works.

Likewise, typing “yes” for abundance while thinking about your fears and what is lacking in your life sends a mixed message. That mixed message is most often what you most often see manifesting in your life.

Asking For Guidance

This same principle is involved when you ask for guidance from your Higher Self. You have to stop your negative thoughts, your fear, and your worries. Otherwise, your personality will create from its litany of your concerns what you don’t want. You will not be able to hear anything at all from your Higher Self. Your mind chatter drowns out the still soft prompting of the voice of your Soul. To open yourself to the wisdom and guidance of your Soul or God in prayer requires surrender and a willingness to receive direction and guidance that may be very different from what you want.

To become more aware of how your fears and worries are controlling your unconscious requests is important. The power of your mind automatically responds to all of your thoughts. It responds to your wishes, and it responds to your fears. “The Law of Attraction” and the principle that “energy follows thought” do not have a shut-off valve. It is on 24-7.

That energy follows your thought works with every positive affirmation. It also works with every meditation of intention. However, it also engages with every fear and worry that crosses your mind. Therefore, it is important to understand that what you are thinking is constantly creating what is manifesting in your life.

For this reason, it is crucial for you to be aware of your thoughts and value and respect the co-creative power that they have.

Meditation is a powerful tool to help you use your mind to live the life you desire by gaining mastery over your mind. To help you increase your awareness of what you are asking the universe to provide, I recommend that you do a technique I call the “detached observer.” If you follow my work and my writings you that will note that this is not the first time that I have recommended this technique. This technique is not a meditation but what I call a meditative technique.

Detached Observer Technique

One technique that I have found valuable in my own practice and in my years of coaching and counseling people is that you begin just by self-observation.

I recommend starting with committing just 3 minutes a day to consciously observe your thoughts. When you observe a negative or fear-based thought flash through your mind, edit it, correct it and replace it with a conscious thought of what you want and are striving to manifest in your life.

This self-observation, edit, correct (with intention) and replace technique is most important and empowering when what crosses your mind is a fear. To do this consciously and with intention is best achieved in a meditative state while aligning with your Higher Self and focusing on your life’s purpose. In this alignment, you have a greater vision.

This technique is best done free of self-judgment or criticism (each of which works against achieving positive thoughts to replace the negative and fear-based chatter of the “Monkey Mind.”)

I refer to this as a meditative state because it is not really meditation, but as you are seeking to consciously align with your Soul and your Soul purpose in life you are in a higher state of consciousness and keener awareness than just thinking. So this exercise of observation from the perspective of the “detached observer” is a bridge between normal uncontrolled and casual thinking and meditation.

This can be a powerful and transforming technique. As I mentioned I recommend starting with this technique 3 minutes every day. That may seem very short but if you really consider and catch most of your negative thoughts to edit, and revise and replace the thought, you will have made a huge step forward in your ability to harness the power of your mind and learn to quiet the chattering mind. This simple (although sometimes not easy) step is important in learning to meditate and to empower your life.

In teaching this technique to my coaching clients, most have observed that a daily practice of this technique begins major transformation in their lives.

I suggest that you start out using this method for 3 minutes a day for 30 days. Three minutes of your day is not very much. However, three minutes is enough to demonstrate my point. Three minutes is sufficient to describe the energy you are sending out.

Harnessing the power of your thoughts and making them serve you, while very simple is not always easy. Your mind functions in a multilevel way with ideas so rapid and diverse it is like catching quicksilver.

Throughout the eons of teaching meditation, helping the student gain control of what is often called “The Monkey Mind” or the “Chattering Mind” has been the goal.

In fact, the extended periods of meditating on the ‘no thing,’ ‘the void,’ ‘the sound of one hand clapping’ and other techniques that I learned in my early days of meditation, all seemed to be focused on learning to quiet your chattering mind.

Likewise, mantras repeated serve the same purpose. Similarly, the repetitive phrases of awareness that are taught in mindfulness meditations serve the same goal; they teach you to focus your thoughts and wrestle control from the chatter. Using guided meditations serve the same purpose. They are certainly easier than focusing on the “no-thing” or “the void.”

ATS Affirmations For Abundance CD-MP3 by Genevieve Gerard

Check out my Awaken to Success CD or MP3’s, which give you 21 positive affirmations for abundance. Use these to empower yourself to create the life of your dreams.

All are techniques to focus your thoughts in the desired direction you choose for your consciousness. Guided meditations are an effective and efficient way to harness the power of your mind to help you create the life and experiences you desire. Focusing on a problem with a focused intention on a daily basis can be transforming. The issue of regularity and repetition are key elements in using meditation to change your life.

Daily meditation need not be an arduous process. Moreover, although in my early days of meditating I was instructed to meditate for 30 minutes to an hour daily, I have found over the last 48 years that daily meditation consistently applied with intention is more important than the time spent.

When I create a guided meditation experience, I strive to capture the essence of the subject that I focus on in a 10 to 20-minute session. In meditation, it is quality rather than quality that counts.

The process of quieting your mind chatter enables you to receive the still prompting guidance of your Higher Self. Likewise, to be receptive to the wisdom of your Soul, it is important to cease your attachment to what you desire or expect in order to open your heart and your mind. Ponder on this.

This dual process of quieting your mind as much as possible and surrendering your personal will and desires to be receptive to the guidance you are receiving are crucial steps in receiving advice from your Higher Self.

We must let go of the life we have planned,
so as to accept the one that is waiting for us.
           – Joseph Campbell

I also recommend that if you are seeking the wisdom and direction of your Soul in your life that you set aside at least 10 minutes a day, regularly to meditate on that very subject. Then apply the technique of the detached observer by revising and reframing every negative thought, aligning it with what you feel your Higher Self is directing you to. Do these meditations with as much of an attitude of surrender to Divine Will as you are able.

I further recommend that you follow your “asking” time with a reflective and receptive time that you write in a spiritual journal. This combination of meditation and journal entry will increase the effectiveness of your request.

You Higher Self, your Soul, is available to you. When you can quiet your desires, your fears and listen to your Souls wisdom and guidance, it becomes a partner on your life journey, and your life journey becomes your spiritual journey.

Namaste,
Genevieve

What You Need To Know To Invoke Your Higher Self

What You Need To Know To
Invoke Your Higher Self

Read "What You Need To Know To Invoke Your Higher Self" by Genevieve Gerard

This post is part of my ongoing series on Soul Awakening.

There comes a time in the human experience that you need more than logic to solve a problem.

Your mind may replay possible solutions to your problems, only to cast them aside. You may have a sense that the wisdom you are seeking lies just outside of your reach.

You may feel a prompting that you cannot quite grasp. Your intuition may be warning you that you are about to make a mistake, but you lack the clarity to stand with the strength and assurance to find a different way.

This is the time to invoke the wisdom and the guidance of your Higher Self.

To invoke your Higher Self will aid and empower you. When you realize that the directions and insights are coming from the part of yourself that is most attuned, and aligned with your divine spark and the higher purpose in your life, it shifts your perspective and strengthens you.

Consciously connecting with your Higher Self empowers your life and your decisions. You can invoke Your Higher Self whenever you need its wisdom and guidance. Your Higher Self is internally tuned in with the purpose of your life. It opens you to a sense of your inner wisdom and your inner knowing.

Steps To Invoke Your Higher Self

INTENTION

Perhaps the most significant step in connecting with your Higher Self is your intention.

Intention fuels a manifestation of an energetic connection that is always there, although you may not always feel or experience it. Intention activates the pathway from your physical and etheric body to the subtle energetic substance that forms the Soul or Higher Self.

It is your intention that activates an energetic bridge from your lower mind and personality to the part of you that is your Higher Self. It is important to remember that your Higher Self is a part of your anatomy every bit as real and significant as what you can see, touch, smell, taste, and feel. It cannot, not help but be a part of you.

We should not pretend to understand the world only by the intellect.
The judgement of the intellect is only part of the truth.
        – Carl Jung

That you rarely consider your Higher Self consciously does not make it any less real and present. You rarely consciously consider the blood that circulates through your body or the oxygen it delivers throughout your physical body, but we all know they are real.

Your Higher Self is as much a part of the wholeness of your being, even though it’s substance is not composed of matter.

IMAGINATION

Because your Higher Self is composed of a substance that is uniquely different from the substance of matter, imagination in visualizing and experiencing your Higher Self can be very valuable.

Your Imagination is a function of your higher mind and is, therefore, more aligned with and attuned with the substance of your Higher Self. It is a valuable tool in helping you experience this part of your being that is beyond matter.

EXPERIENCE

In consciously connecting with your Higher Self, it is important that you open your senses beyond what you may focus on in your so-called, “normal consciousness.”

You may need to expand your awareness of a part of your energy field that you may most often ignore. To come into a conscious experience of your Higher Self I recommend that you calm your mind, open your heart and invite the Light. This is a prequel to the meditation experience.

The Soul speaks to you in the silence. The more you can quiet and calm your mind the more the soft, gentle whisper of the Soul can be heard.
        – Genevieve Gerard

When reaching for the conscious awareness of your Higher Self, meditation is a powerful tool. It is not essential, but the more often you forge the pathway from your lower nature and your personality to your Higher Self the easier the path is to follow (like any well-worn path in nature.) When you empower the pathway from your mind and your emotions, you build a way that etheric energy connects you with your Higher Self.

Relax and enjoy the construction of that pathway using your intention and your imagination as you open yourself to the experience of meeting your Higher Self in the meditation below.

Breathing Meditation To Invoke Your Higher Self

Begin, by inhaling a very deep breath, bringing the air in through your nose, letting it begin at your diaphragm energetically.

Bring the air into your chest and as you do this consciously open the energy of your heart to expand. Hold the intention of Love.

Then bring the breath all the way to the top of your lungs, just below the shoulders.

When you have filled your lungs as fully as you are able, release the breath through your mouth fully until you have released all of your air.

This is a relaxing breath. You might already notice how much more relaxed and at peace you feel having fully experienced a full breath.

Before you take another profound and relaxing breath, take a moment to come into this present moment. Let yourself consciously put the past behind you, and relax and appreciate the magnificent power and unlimited potential that is available, right here and right now.

Recognize that the past is now behind you. It has no further power over you or influence over you except what you choose to give it.

What will be, the future, is just beginning to be created as you let yourself relax and reside in the eternal NOW.

It is in the eternal NOW that your Higher Self resides. This moment, this peace, this Presence is available to you.

When you are ready, begin to draw in another deep relaxing and healing breath, in through your nose starting at your diaphragm, through your solar plexus and up into your heart allowing your heart energy to open and expand.

Again, bring the breath to the top of your lungs drawing in as much air as you can hold.

Then as you release this breath through your mouth it may form a sound like a sigh as you let go of any stress or concerns and let yourself relax and come to center.

Observe what you are feeling and experiencing.

Then, breathe naturally not attempting to control your breath, allowing your breath to direct how much you bring in and how much you let go of that you no longer need.

You might notice a calm and peace filling you at this time. You might be aware that you are more present.

Enter into the profound peace and potential of the eternal now, and release the past and open to the possibility of creating a new future that incorporates more of your purpose in life and your heart’s desire.

Taking one more really deep relaxing and filling breath with intention, invoke and invite the Presence of your Higher Self.

With the inhale draw into your heart and your mind the perfect amount of the very essence of your Being.

Let its Light circulate through your whole being with your breath.

As it moves from your lungs to your heart and throughout your entire physical and energy body, accept the healing power and profound love into your conscious awareness, into your heart and into your mind.

As you exhale breath out any negative thoughts or fears.

Release any limiting beliefs that keep you from expressing the magnificent and full being that you truly are.

Now sit in silence and receptivity as you listen for the still prompting of your Higher Self.

In this pause you can offer up any issue and concern on which you would like greater insight or understanding.

Be receptive and record your thoughts and insights in your journal.

Pause for reflection.

Observe the background sounds that surround you. Return to this present moment and give gratitude to your Higher Self for any insights and clarity you may have received in this guided meditation.

Now, move forward with your life confident and assured that the insight and wisdom you have applied to the situation is the right choice for your life and is aligned with your Higher Purpose.

Namaste,

   Genevieve

Ways To Connect With Your Soul

Ways To Connect With Your Soul

Read Ways To Connect With Your Soul by Genevieve Gerard

Perhaps the most wonderful and inspiring experience you can have in meditation is to connect with your Soul.

When you connect with your Soul, also known as your Higher Self, you become aware of a part of yourself that is so glorious and magnificent that experiencing it is often transformational and profound.

To me, to connect with your Soul is the greatest gift of meditation.

IMPORTANT FACTORS

An important factor is how the regular practice of meditation actually makes it easier and easier to meditate. It is more than the old adage practice makes perfect. Each time you consciously, and with intention, connect to your Higher Self (your Soul), you are creating additional threads of energy that build a bridge to ease your passage.

Whenever you call upon the Light of the Soul for inspiration or guidance, you are building a bridge in consciousness from your personality to your Soul. In so doing you are making the wisdom of your Soul available to you.
      – Genevieve Gerard

You are able to tap into and expand your awareness and perspective to a much greater understanding of who and what you are and a much deeper understanding of the meaning and purpose of your life.

BENEFITS OF CONNECTING WITH YOUR SOUL

Connecting with Soul Light by Genevieve Gerard

When you meditate regularly, invoke, and invite the Presence of your Soul to be an active and incorporated part of your life, you are raising the frequency of your mind and your physical body. This leads to an expanded awareness, and insights and clarity greater than you may have believed possible.

In addition, since the nature and essence of your Soul is pure love, increasing and inviting Soul connection into your life expands your experience of true love and increases your understanding and ability to love.

One of the other profound benefits of calling on your Soul in meditation is an awareness of the connection and interconnection of all of life. This expanded awareness is often accompanied by feelings of unity and purpose. It often fills you with a very deep joy. This sense of universal Oneness, with others and nature, can be a life-altering, magnificent experience of bliss.

USING RITUALS

Some find that the act of using rituals helps to prepare them for meditation. The primary purpose of preparing to meditate with a ritual is that the action of preparation serves to reinforce your conscious intention.

You can experiment with creating rituals that work for you. When you find one that you feel is of help, you can incorporate it into your meditation practice.

When you use a ritual the time and the effort of performing the ritual serves as a preparation and helps you be ready and receptive to the meditation process. An additional benefit of setting up a ritual is it serves the purpose of helping to quiet your mind chatter as you focus on the intent of your meditation time.

Remember, there is no right or wrong way to prepare for meditation. Although you may choose to set aside a specific amount of time for the meditation, this is all your choice and should be guided by what works for you and for your life.

Some rituals that have been helpful over the ages:

  1. Lighting a white or gold candle. If you choose this, having a special or specific candle is usually recommended.
  2. Burning incense (again choosing a specific scent is often helpful) although as you gain more experience with meditation you can change or shift that scent. Some choose the scent based on the desire for a specific energetic result. You may find some favorite scents that you associate with feeling peaceful or calm or feeling more empowered to reach the desired state of consciousness.
  3. I begin all of my guided meditations with an instructional invocation:
Calm your mind, Open your Heart and Invite the Light.
  4. Sitting quietly and receptively for some time before you start to meditate helps you quiet your mind and put everything behind you.

You can experiment with different rituals and see if they enhance the ease with which you become calm, and quiet your mind chatter so you can experience the presence of your Higher Self.

Setting aside a time daily to meditate, whether you choose to use mantrams, guided meditation experiences or affirmations or mindfulness techniques will empower you and enhance you.

Ageless Wisdom Mantram

A Mantram from the Ageless Wisdom that is often used to help you gain the wisdom of your Soul is:

May the energy of the Divine Self inspire me
and the Light of the Soul direct.
May I be led from darkness to Light,
from the unreal to the Real,
from death to Immortality.

Then, still holding your consciousness in the head and visualizing a sphere of deep electric blue, vivid and living, say the following words, endeavoring to realize their significance as you say them:

I stand in spiritual Being and, as a Soul, I serve.
I stand within the Light, and as the Light shines
throughout my form, I radiate that light.
I stand within the Love of God,
and as that Love streams through and from the heart,
I magnetise the ones I seek to aid.”
      – Alice A. Bailey, Djwhal Khul “Discipleship in the New Age: Vol I” p.306

You can incorporate this mantram into a daily meditation, or it can be used as an affirmation of intention to connect with the Light of your Soul. This is a sacred time that you arrange, as much as possible, to be free of distractions or interruptions.

Regularity of the practice of meditation helps it become increasingly easy to give yourself the blessings and benefits of meditation. I can think of nothing else that provides so much opportunity for mastery, success, transformation and joy and takes such little effort.

Because meditation is such a powerful opportunity to grow and expand your consciousness, I recommend keeping a journal where you can record your insights and impressions. Writing or recording what you have received in mediation will be valuable to you over time so you can ponder, look back over, and appreciate the ways you have improved your life adventure.

Namaste,

Genevieve

An Invitation to Your Soul

An Invitation to Your Soul:

The First Step to Greater Soul Awareness

Read An Invitation to Your Soul by Genevieve Gerard

This article is part of my ongoing series on Soul Awareness and Soul Awakening.

Do you believe that you have a Soul?

Does having a living and empowering relationship with your Soul interest you?

My purpose in this article is to talk with you about your Soul. I want to expose you to ideas of how you can come into greater communication and a sense of connection and integration with your Soul so that your Soul’s power and magnificence can be a conscious part of your life.

Invite Your Soul

The journey to Soul consciousness is a great journey, but like all great journeys, it begins with a single step. You can choose to take that step today. You can choose to open your heart and your mind to the awareness of the presence of your Soul. This single step begins by choosing to be aware of what you experience or sense when you consciously invite your Soul to make itself known to you.

This step of invitation to your Soul may sound strange to you. After all, your Soul is an integral part of you. Why would it be important for you to issue consciously an invitation to your Soul to reveal itself to your consciousness? Consider if you will those moments, those times when you feel you may have experienced the presence of your Soul.

It may have been in a time of deep prayer or meditation. It could have been in a time of profound sorrow when the Soul revealed itself to you in the role of comforter. These fleeting times may well have been held reverently in your heart as a precious blessing that you don’t have the words to express.

That there are not adequate words in our language (or any language I know of in the world) to discuss the Soul is part of why the Soul is a mystery. It is amazing that the Soul, the seat of your Divine Spark and portal to your relationship with God should have so little written about it.

Soulful References

When I began teaching about consciously connecting with your Soul and developed guided meditation experiences to help people come into awareness of the presence of their Soul I thought I could find a vast resource in the Bible. However, I was astonished to find very little to reveal the nature of the Soul and nothing about how to increase your individual relationship and understanding of the nature of your Soul and its role in your life, which I know personally to be of profound importance.

The best resource I found in the Bible for understanding the role of the relationship with the Soul is found in the Book of Psalms, mostly in the Psalms of King David who clearly had the kind of personal relationship with the Soul that my spiritual practice and journey revealed to be so important. The Book of Psalms reveals the joy of a deep relationship with your Soul and how it supports your relationship with God.

As I expanded my search to find sources for the words to describe the Soul and its role and significant relationship in life, I discovered that although the Soul is an accepted dynamic or presence in life, it is most often referred to in poetry, or song. The Book of Psalms is a perfect example of this poetic language. I found this very vagueness to be intriguing. Unfortunately, expanding my search to even the very ancient spiritual literature of the Bhagavad Gita was not revealing.

Poets such as Hafiz, Rumi, and Omar Kham all write beautifully of the Soul. Certainly, the existence of the Soul is embedded in the human heart in some archetypal level of awareness. In much of the Western world, children went to bed saying the prayer: “Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord, my Soul, to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my Soul to take.” This simple child’s prayer speaks to your deep understanding of the Soul as the everlasting part of your being. It acknowledges the integral relationship between God and your Soul.

The one thing in the world, of value, is the active soul.”
      – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Ageless Wisdom

My quest for greater understanding of the Soul and its role in relation to an individual life led me, as so much of my study does, to the Ageless Wisdom. There I found much discussion of the optimum relationship of the Soul with the personality, the mind, and the body. It is from that body of work that I learned that I could call upon the wisdom of my Soul as an integral part of the wholeness of my being.

Also throughout the teachings of the Ageless Wisdom are mantras to use in meditation to enhance the conscious relationship and integration of the Soul, many of which I have sprinkled through my articles. According to the Ageless Wisdom, identifying with your Soul, through the power of an “I Am” statement is extremely powerful. Ponder on this.

Likewise, in my years of guiding and teaching people to enter into greater experience and awareness of their Soul, I have found that stating clearly your intention when you meditate to receive the guidance or the wisdom of your Soul in addition to consciously issuing an invitation to your Soul is a significant step.

Developing a Relationship with Your Soul

Your Soul is an integral part of you, but do you pay attention to it? Developing a relationship with your Soul is like all relationships in life, it takes attention. The more you strengthen and enhance that relationship the more it is accessible to you at your need.

There are subtle yet significant factors related to the principles of free will that have an impact upon how your relationship with your Soul is nurtured. Thankfully, your Soul knows these and can guide you through the development of a greater and more profound relationship, once an invitation is issued.

As with all relationships, attention and constancy are beneficial. Although your Soul loves you completely, and unconditionally it requires nothing from you (as your “personality” self.) To move into the full potential of a Soul relationship and Soul integration of what is possible and available for you only takes providing the time and space for communication and awareness as a part of your daily meditation practice.

Making a connection with your chakra energy centers to your Soul is called, “building the Antahkarana.” This bridge of Light and energy makes your Soul connection more accessible.

A Simple Soul Connection Meditation

To begin I recommend sitting quietly and receptively. Take a deep breath through your nose and let it out completely through your mouth. Do this three times while you relax and release any stress and get centered.

Imagine your Soul as a radiating point of golden Light 3 to 6 feet above your head.

The Light of the Soul Descends
Soul Light Descending

As you enter into a meditative state, it is important to “Calm your mind, open your heart, and invite the Light.” Then identify with your Soul as an integral part of your being by saying this Soul Mantram with intention and affirmation.

I am the Soul
I am Light Divine
I am Love
I am Will
I am Fixed Design
I am the Soul infusing the personality
I am the personality Soul-infused
As the Unified Self, I invoke the One
The One in Whom we live and move and have our Being

Then sit quietly and receptively in meditation and ponder on these phrases.

I have found it very helpful to then record your thoughts and impressions in a journal. I have over the years received amazing revelations and understanding from this process.

I encourage you to use the practice of meditation to invite a connection with your Soul and develop a relationship and get to know the wonder of your Soul.

Namaste,

Genevieve

The Soul Connection

Soul Connection

by Genevieve Gerard

Genevieve Gerard The Soul Connection Article image

Connecting to the Soul is the most profound and transformative part of the meditative experience.

It is through the connection of the personality, the lower self, to the energy of the Soul, the Higher Self, that we are able to experience that within us which is eternal.

It is our Soul that contains the Divine spark. By connecting to our Soul we are granted a glimpse into an awareness of our oneness with all of creation. It is through our Soul that we are receptive to the Divine.

Through the practice of meditation, when the mind is quieted and the emotions are calmed the Soul shines forth in all of its glory.”

   – Genevieve Gerard

It is through the connection to the Soul that we are granted the insight into the moment that brings relief and release from life’s burdens.

Through meditation, as we connect to the Soul we are bringing ourselves into union with our Higher Self that we may experience wholeness. This unified self opens more and more to the Light, like the petals of a lotus allowing more and more awareness to flow into our life. The union with the Soul gives us an awareness of the Self that is greater and wiser than we are able to experience when focused upon our personality and personal needs and desires.

By meditating regularly to come into union with the Soul we find our perspective changing. We begin to see alternative interpretations of the events of our life. This begins slowly, and initially can only be experienced in the meditative state, but in a regular relationship with the Soul the awareness of those brief moments of connection to the Divine begins to expand and give us new insights and understandings throughout the day.

Through the process of systematically learning to quiet the mind and calm the emotions you change your life by reducing stress. Confidence in your ability to be in control of your body, mind and emotions translates into confidence to be in more control of your life.

Each time you make the conscious decision to meditate you are creating the opportunity for your lower self to gain a greater understanding of life. Just the process of quieting the mind and calming the emotions is its own reward.

When you add the connection to the Soul, the experience of meditation can expand into a receptivity that increases your understanding of your self and your life. The more regularly the connection with the Soul is experienced, the more the insights and wisdom of the Higher Self become available to you. The sense of being centered and the sense of calm confidence make their way into your daily life.

As you build and reinforce the pathway of connection to the Soul it becomes increasingly easy to touch the Light of the Soul as you go through your daily life. This touch of Soul contact helps you gain a different understanding and more profound awareness. Over time, as the connection is reinforced and strengthened you find that your life is freed more and more from the lure of negative emotions, and the experience of peace and joy will pervade your being.
