To The Least of These My Brethren

To The Least of These My Brethren

Read To The Least of These My Brethren article by Genevieve Gerard

While in my heart Celebrating the Canonization and Sainthood of Mother Teresa, now Saint Teresa by Pope Francis, I was listening to a video about her life where she held up the hand of her guest and counted off the five words “You did it (un)to me.”

I was touched that as we look at her life, her strength and her service, she was motivated and driven that every act of kindness, every service she performed in the “black hole of Calcutta” where she worked to aid the poorest of the poor; those whose lives were discarded was an act of Love that she performed to the least of these “my brethren” because she saw in them the Divine Light.

I had never heard that story before.

I had written the article below recently about living a life in service to others by seeing in them, “inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me,” as instructed by Jesus (in the King James Bible version.)

Realizing that Saint Teresa of Calcutta, known for most of my life as Mother Teresa lived by those five words (You, Did, It, To, Me as a way to explain the five gospels) demonstrates how powerful those five words can be.

The story I share here, about my grandmother will hopefully demonstrate alone with Saint Teresa’s canonization that this instruction by Jesus was not an impossible task, but rather a way we can each decide to walk the world in Love, service, and fellowship with one another.

Here is a shorter video I found with Mother Teresa explaining the
5 Finger Prayer:

Let her Love and her service inspire people around the world to realize that what she did in her life each and every one of us can do.

Although we may never be declared a Saint we can follow the teachings of these five words of Jesus and the marvelous example of the life and work of Saint Teresa.  We can live a meaningful life, a blessed life and be a blessing to those we encounter on our journey through life.

Some of us may feel the tasks ahead are beyond us.  Indeed, we are told that Mother Teresa felt the vast poverty she was sent by her convent to minister to was beyond her, but in her daily walk with Christ as a demonstration of Love, she became a beacon of Light for the entire world.

Parables have been a method of spiritual teachers throughout the ages.  Much like the tradition of a Zen Koan, a parable is a story for you to consider and ponder the deeper truth and lesson being offered.  The lesson of a parable must be pondered in your heart as it is considered in your mind.  Ponder on this.

The guidance of a parable is revealed through your inner wisdom through a sense of knowing and what has the resonance of a ring of truth to it.  Often, it is the very pondering of what the teacher meant that gives the greatest spiritual insight.

The Bible phrase above found in Matthew 25:40 is a parable.  In the simple phrase “Yeah though you have done it for the least of these my brethren” is a profound life guidance statement that is often ignored by those who say they follow Jesus.  This little line in this simple parable ignites many questions that are worthy of pondering and considering.

In my life, I was blessed by a wonderful grandmother who had given this passage enough gravitas and consideration that it guided her whole life.  I cannot remember and count all of the unwed mothers who migrated through my grandmother’s home over the years.  The young women who were often disowned or cast out by their families found a haven in my grandmother’s home.

One by one she saw the woman through their pregnancy and birth then helped them find honorable and respectable men who would marry them and become a father to their child.  As a child observing this, I do not know the details of how she managed to accomplish this task.

Mostly, I remember the often bittersweet joy of the young woman moving on to a better life that was mixed with my grandmother missing the baby who had been born into this situation.

Likewise, my grandmother had a neighbor who had transferred the deed to her home to her son so that when she passed on he would not have to pay inheritance tax.  He then immediately sold the house out from under her, thus rendering the woman homeless.  The result was my grandmother took her in.  They were not friends, only neighbors.  In fact, they never even addressed one another by their first names.  I only knew this resident in my grandmother’s home as Mrs. Malloy.

My grandmother housed and cared for Mrs. Malloy for many years until caring for her became beyond my grandmother’s health abilities.  She then found a home that could provide the care, Mrs. Malloy, now needed.  She then visited her weekly until Mrs. Malloy passed.

When as a child I would question the reasoning behind my Grandmother’s generosity she explained it through this biblical passage.  In her mind and heart, each of these people who had found themselves in unfortunate circumstances was cared for as if they were Jesus knocking on the door of her heart.  She welcomed them and treated them as if they were Him.

This extraordinary example of living that biblical passage has had a profound influence in my life and is one which I have pondered throughout my life.  What I have come to understand and realize is that this is a complex lesson.  The answers are not simple.

A whole myriad of factors must be considered that are related to issues of personal responsibility.  There are life lessons to be learned from every situation that is not yours or mine to disrupt through charity.

One of the clearest of these lessons is the concept of seeing the Divine spark within each person that led Jesus to say in this parable “I was sick, and you cared for me; I was in prison, and you visited me; I was hungry, and you fed me.”  We find this Divine spark within those who are even the “least of these my brethren.”

It is in serving and caring for others with Love, while still empowering them to co-create in their own life the fulfillment of their dreams and desires, which you can best be of service.

The respect and honor you give to even the least of these the brethren of the Christ, and the least of these your brethren a demonstration of how brotherhood works.  It is through the brotherhood of men and sisterhood among woman that you best acknowledge the Divine spark that is within each of us.  This acknowledgment is captured in the phrase of the ancient greeting of Namaste – The Divine spark in me honors and recognizes the Divine spark in you.

In this way we are all brothers and sisters, we are all the children of God.  We are One Humanity.

None of us is an island, our separateness and separation are an illusion.  We cannot hurt one another without hurting ourselves.  Likewise, when we help and serve another, we help ourselves. This connection is real no matter how much we may strive to think in selfish and separate ways.

Deep in your heart and more importantly deep in your Soul this truth is known.  No matter how individual life may seem, there is a unity of connection we all have with one another.

The biblical phrase that guided so much of my Grandmother’s life and service was “Yeah though you have done it unto the least of these my brethren you have done it unto me.”  For my grandmother, every unwed mother who traveled through her care and her homeless neighbor were all part of her expression of love and service to the Christ.

This living example of the active principle of love had a profound influence on my life that guides my life situations today.  I am so grateful that this loving woman was in my life.  Her example and love have been a constant source of strength in my life journey.

I am eternally grateful for the blessing of her presence in my life and her tireless example of what love and service mean.

Although I have known many wonderful spiritual teachers throughout my life, my grandmother living her life by that simple phrase from the book of Matthew 25:40 was more of an example of following the teachings of Jesus than the many sermons I have heard in my life.

She truly “walked her talk,” and I was so blessed by the opportunity to observe someone who “walked their talk” in my formative years.  Her living expression of Love and Grace has been ongoing support (even though her body has passed on) and I am grateful for the blessing of her example and her love in my life.

In all of her expressions of Love and Service, to the various unwed mothers who cycled through her home, I recall a complete lack of judgment toward the woman she brought under her protection.  She opened her heart and her home to help them get their life back on track, so a mistake was not the definition of their future.

Her demonstration of grace and her example of forgiveness and especially self-forgiveness have been an example of what forgiveness means and the unconditional nature of love.

For my Grandmother, it was Christ that she served and Christ who knocked on the door to her heart and Christ she housed and cared for when she gave comfort and shelter to those in need.  I can only marvel at what a beautiful demonstration of love her life was for with gratitude in my heart for having been blessed by the love and support of such an amazing disciple of Christ.

I am blessed to share her story with you with love and invite you to open your heart and Do It Unto Me.

Namaste,

Genevieve

Understanding Our Dual Nature

Understanding Our Dual Nature

Read Understanding Our Dual Nature article by Genevieve Gerard

This article is part of my ongoing series on Soul Awareness.

The experience of being human is an amazing blend of seemingly contradictory factors.

Let us take a moment to consider the diverse parts of the human being that must be integrated every day of our lives.  Understanding this better may help you understand the different aspects of your human nature that are often challenging.

A dear spiritual friend of mine calls this duality, but I feel that term may not capture the full depth and breadth of the dynamics of what it means to be a human being in incarnation, especially at this exciting time in human evolution.

Since the dawn of creation, when human beings first drew in the breath of life, we as human beings have been a unique creation.  We are told in the scriptures, that man was created in the image of God, the relationship between the part of ourselves that is the animal man and the part of ourselves that is Divine created in the image of the creator, has been a source of many questionsIt is that concept on which I wish to expand.

Let us take a minute to consider the meaning of the dual nature of man.  This is a subject that I have long pondered and studied. Within the understanding of that dual nature are many factors that are important to consider.

Divine Observations

The most ancient religions across the planet, even when they differ dramatically in dogma seem to have observed certain essential truthsOne of these truths is that a human being has within them something that is both Divine and eternal.

This truth is acknowledged by the ancient greeting Namaste.”  The meaning of the ancient Sanskrit phrase Namaste is that you honor and recognize this Divinity in another.  This recognition happens in a deep pre-conscious part of your being.  It is both a deep truth and a profound mystery about the human condition.

There are some things that help to consider this dual nature of your being.  Some of these are common sense observations of reality.  Others are more abstract.  Yet, even the most abstract of these seem to be a part of your collective understanding, and archetypal awareness of what it means to be a human being, a unique and amazing blending of what is material and what is spiritual.

As you delve into this mystery, there are many beliefs that may have been taught to you throughout all of our life that come into play.  When we talk about these issues, these beliefs can be a great support in your understanding or a great hindrance because what I am saying is being judged to match up with the dogma of those beliefs.

What Resonates For You As The Truth

As I write to you today I try, to my best ability, to discuss and explain these issues in a way that have a practical implication upon your life, the decisions you make and how to best take advantage of this miracle of life with which you have been blessed.  As you read this, I am going to ask you to calm your mind and open your heart.  I am going to ask you to consider these words from a place deep within you that resonates and is recognized by you when you hear the truth.

I am going to ask you today to read my words and only judge them by what resonates for you as the truth.  If anything that I write, today or ever does not live up to that standard, I request that you dismiss it.  I am a human being on the same path to being more enlightened in my awareness as you and every other human being who walks the earth.

Nothing I have ever said or will ever say should be given greater authority than the truth.
          – Genevieve Gerard

Inner Sense of Truth and Knowing

Amazingly, each of us has within us a deep sense of truth when we are open to receive it.  The common phrase, “that has the ring of truth to it” describes this experience of considering the truth in what you are hearing or reading.  There is a phrase I have often considered and pondered on along my own path, “no religion is higher than the truth.”  Therefore, it is to this inner sense of truth and knowing that I direct you as we explore this fully human and Divine aspect of your human nature.

As we consider these truths, I also ask you to consider how these truths relate to the practical daily decisions you make in your life.  In my own meditations lately, when I connect to my Soul, my own spark of Divine Light to grow and understand my life and my work, I have been pondering upon a phrase, “practical spirituality.”  Indeed, if being spiritual has a purpose in life it must be to help us live life more abundantly and more joyfully.

The more that I have come to know and understand the spiritual part of my being, the more solutions I have found to the multifaceted and myriad of life’s challenges.  Meditation has been the portal through which I make contact with the Divine spark in me, my Soul, and it is through the vast and unconditional love that is available to me when I touch my Soul, that I am granted both understanding and wisdom to solve life’s problems.

I have, to the very best of my ability, tried to capture these solutions to share with you in my guided meditations and my writings.  From my own very human challenges in life and from my many years helping others resolve life challenges I have created many meditations.  My husband jokes that my epitaph will be “I have a meditation for that.”  It is my experience that my relationship with my Soul is both immensely practical and life-enhancing.

It is from the perspective of my own awareness of my dual nature as a Soul or Spiritual being that I must integrate the needs of my body, my emotions, my thought with the directing of my Soul.  I shall strive to describe the practical applications of that dual perspective to you now.

Understanding Your Dual Nature

You Have a Physical Body

In order to have this discussion, it is important that we consider what you know to be the seeming diverse parts of your human natureFirst, you know you have a physical body.  That part of your human nature and your human experience is the source for many delights.  The five senses of the physical body are a source for a great deal of enjoyment.  It is a precious gift from the Creator.  It is a bountiful blessing.

If you apply that recommended filter of truth to the preceding statement about your body, I am sure it will pass the test.  There are those in the name of spiritual teaching who have taught you to deny the blessings of the body, with thoughts of shame and guilt.  Nevertheless, I ask you to consider with gratitude and celebration the miracle that your body is.  Open yourself to enjoy and appreciate that amazing part of the wholeness of yourself.

As it is true that the physical part of your human experience is wonderful and glorious; it is also true that you are more than a physical body.  Life, your life, is multilayered and multifaceted.  Yet, from your awareness of your physical nature, you know that the desires and the pleasures of the flesh can easily get out of balance and out of control.

Amazingly, it is your Higher Self, your Soul, which can help you keep your physical desires in balance.  The Soul, or as addiction treatment refers to it, a Higher Power, is often the key to overcoming excess and addiction to the desires and pleasures of the flesh.  This is for many a first step in calling upon their dual nature in a practical and life-changing manner.  It is by calling on the Higher Self, your own personal Higher Power, that you can gain mastery and start a process of integration.

In the Ageless Wisdom, this process is referred to as an important step in human evolution, that of bringing the Soul into dominance over the physical desires and urges.

You have a body, but you are more than your body.  This is powerfully demonstrated when you use the influence and strength of your Soul to transcend out of balance physical desires to move forward in your life.   This is an example of calling upon the advantages of being a dual being, material and spiritual.

You Have Emotions

Likewise, you have emotions.   This is one of the true challenges of our human experience.  Just as dealing with the desires of the flesh can create untold challenges in the human adventure, so too can the experience of emotions present an ongoing challenge.  The wildly erratic nature of emotions, from anger to joy, from hate to love, make having emotions, and especially not letting your emotions be in control in your life, a major focus of the practical application of spirituality.

There is no doubt that coping with and managing the desires of the flesh is an important part of life.  We have all seen the disastrous results of lives where desire and pleasure were allowed to be out of balance in life decisions.  Likewise, the rampant expressions of the volatility of emotions do not lead to a happy or fulfilling life.  This is the conclusion of a thinking man.

You Have A Thinking Mind

Truly, the mind is an equally powerful part of the wholeness of your being. Through the power of your mind, you are able to understand that you, in your human experience are more than a body.  And, by observing life you know that you are more than the sum total of your rollercoaster emotions.

Your mind and most importantly the content of your thoughts is essential to understanding what I call your spiritual anatomy.  How these diverse parts of the human nature of physical, emotional and mental combine and work together is truly amazing.  The integration and blending of these concurrently diverse forces of the self is the function of the personality.

You Are A Soul

Although the personality does a great job of striving to balance the parts of the self, the real dynamic power of one’s dual nature resides in the Soul. The Soul, that spark of Divine Light that is so rarely even considered in many people’s daily life, is where the real magic of the human experience resides.  However, as we consider the magnificent multifaceted parts of “being” a human being it is important to understand the different nature of the Soul from your personality.

The Ageless Wisdom teaches that the Soul, your Soul, is available to help you live the full breadth and the full joy of your life.  This is a power you can engage and activate in ways that help you conquer the challenges of the desires of the flesh.

You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you, none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher but your own soul.
          – Swami Vivekananda

The Soul offers the support to transcend fears and one’s more unpleasant and painful emotions.  Your Soul provides the ignition to the mind to serve in a co-creator relationship with the Divine.  With the empowering of your thoughts through the spiritual principles of the Law of Attraction and the energetic dynamics that “energy follows thought,” you can create your life.  Ponder on this.

We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.
          – Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

Although your personality does an ok job of integrating your body and your emotions with your mind, your personality is not your Soul. Your Soul, which is a spark of Divine Light, is a part of the Creative force and eternal and evolving essence of life itself.

Your Soul, rather than your personality, can do a much more enlightened job of integrating the human nature of your body, mind, and emotions.

To touch your Soul, to open your heart and your mind to that resplendent radiance and glory is life-transforming and can take place every day.  Making this distinction is important in understanding your dual nature as a human being.

As you develop, learn, and grow as a spiritual being on your quest for more enlightened awareness, it is the touch and transforming power of your Soul that will make the greatest difference.
          – Genevieve Gerard

Soul-Infused Personality

Along the path of spiritual evolution, the integration of the body, the emotions and the mind with your Soul are significant achievements. The integration of each of these parts of the self with the Soul is the forerunner to integrating your personality with your Soul.

To incorporate the consciousness of your Soul with your personality, you must focus your awareness beyond your individual self, into your oneness with all of life. Throughout the day, allow your Soul to overshadow your personality and influence every action you take.  This will make a powerful and profound difference in how you experience even the most mundane things in the world.

It is in the integration of your very human nature with your spiritual nature that the real majesty of being a physical being and a Soul comes into its full glory.

It is in this step in the evolution of a human being and a Soul that the full miracle of merging the physical with the spiritual can be demonstrated.

Check out any of my guided activity-based awareness meditations to have an experience of this.

I invite and encourage you to experience the many ways that your human nature can benefit from the greater perspective of your Soul’s wisdom and vast unconditional love.

This merging and integration with your Soul (and the ultimate understanding of your dual nature) is the most rewarding and exciting adventure you can undertake. I welcome your comments on understanding your dual nature below.

Namaste,

Genevieve

The Quality of Loving Understanding

The Quality of Loving Understanding

Read "The Quality of Loving Understanding" article by Genevieve Gerard

This is another article in my on-going series on love.

The other day when I was meditating upon what is known as “The Festival of Humanity,” (a time in the spiritual calendar where Christ gathers his disciples to disperse and dispense to the world the energies most needed at this time, for the purpose of helping and healing humanity), the concept of loving understanding was impressed upon my Soul.

I will strive to share with you this concept of Loving Understanding. It contains within it some nuances of love that have a profound impact on the art of loving. I will do my very best to share with you how it affects loving and influences your understanding of improving right relationships.

More important than my explanation and understanding of this concept of Loving Understanding, I invite you to ponder upon the concept. Be receptive to the angels and the work of the Holy Spirit to bring to the world these energies of love.

What message and insight you receive as you open your heart, your mind and your Soul to the work and service of the Christ, will have a more powerful impact than my words can ever hope to have.

As I issue this invitation as a call to action, I would like to clarify something that I hope will communicate an underlying message in all of my writings and teachings. My role and my hope are to help you get more consciously aware of the wisdom and guidance of your Soul. There are no concepts that I can ever share with you that will have more power or impact in your life than opening to the power and the insight of your Soul.

My human imperfection limits my work and my teachings. Still I strive to serve as a conduit and bridge to help you find the deep inner truth that is within you.

Once you connect with your Soul and experience these deep inner truths, your prayers, and your meditations will be open to the promptings of your Soul. I believe that this should be true of every spiritual teacher. I believe your Soul will guide you to the solutions to your challenges and lessons that are unique to your purpose and your life journey.

Each life has its sacred journey and within it the opportunity to learn and to grow into right-relationship with God and those we encounter along the way. Our adventure of life can be amazing and wonderful. Entering into right-relationship with others brings with it the gifts of love and unlimited opportunities for joy.

Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries.
Without them, humanity cannot survive.
      – Dalai Lama

As I was pondering about the guidance of this recent meditation and its perspective of which we approach our relationship with one another in the context of loving understanding, I realized that there are subtle, yet important, ways this concept is significant.

Spiritual teachings have long advised us to love one another. The standard of love has been to love unconditionally. The way it is described is, “love one another as God has loved you.” This is a standard against which we measure our love, that most people can only seldom achieve.

I know in my life when I have been able to love everyone unconditionally, it is glorious and wonderful. I also know that many times in my life and my loving, I have failed to reach that standard.

Love is not only something you feel; it is something you do.
      – David Wilkerson

This example of loving understanding seems to offer a step toward loving more unconditionally. It encompasses activating compassion without any demands or expectations.

Loving understanding starts from the awareness and acknowledgment that each of us in our humanity and our life experiences are imperfect, and that is perfectly alright.

From a trip to the Middle East, I am reminded of a story that I heard while visiting a rug making facility that created exquisite handmade silk rugs.

The proprietor told me that every rug had a flaw, often woven in on purpose because “only God is perfect.” In my many years of coaching, I have seen people suffer from judging themselves against an impossible standard of expectations. I often say, “Only God is perfect. You don’t have to be perfect since you are not God.”

This compassion of release from unrealistic expectations, which is inherent in the concept of treating one another from the perspective of loving understanding can influence relationships in very important ways. It implies respect that each of us is on our own life’s journey and our own path.

No mistake along the way ever destroys the truth. Every failure, every foible is an opportunity for greater growth and understanding of what it means to live and how to love. No life lesson is ever wasted if you look at it from a higher perspective.

When you release your demands upon either yourself or others, there is an ability to relax and enjoy without judgment or criticism. You can be who you are, accept how you are, and more importantly understand that those around you are on their own path and have their own life lessons to learn.

This freedom of expectations also loosens the negative aspects of attachment. It enables you to appreciate the unique differences that exist between individuals while enhancing and supporting one another with loving understanding.

With this understanding, you honor that you are you, and I am I, in a way that celebrates the miracle of relationship and sharing our life journey.

There is a mantra that was adapted from the Ageless Wisdom by my spiritual mentor, Dr. Robert Gerard Ph.D. © 1980. It can be freely used and shared as long as the copyright and attribution are used.

A mantra is a way of focusing your meditation. I have always liked this one and feel that it will help empower and enhance your meditations on loving understanding.

I Stand A Point Of Peace

I stand a point of peace,

and through that point

true power, love and light can flow.

I stand in restful poise,

and through that poise

I can attract the gifts

that I can share.

A dedicated will:

         The gift of purpose.

An understanding heart:

         The gift of compassion.

A quiet mind:

         The gift of illumination.

I never stand alone,

for around me gather those

I seek to serve:

My companions on the path,

my colleagues in the work,

Souls that require my help,

even though I see them not,

and those in near and distant places

who seek the Master of my life,

the universal Presence

that sustains all lives.

Experience Praise and Gratitude

Experience Praise and Gratitude

Read the Experience Praise and Gratitude article by Genevieve Gerard

Words have power.

They each resonate with their own energy.

This is a part of the deep magic that was revealed in the opening passages of Genesis. God’s use of words was inherent in the process of creation. So too are your words inherent in the process of what you create in your own life.

Since we think using words, this is also a significant factor in the principle that “energy follows thought.”

When you choose one word over another, you are on a subtle yet powerful level choosing to experience the energy of that one word over another.

This dynamic of word choice can influence what you experience when you choose specific words.

This is always true and provides a significant hint for how you can live a deeper, richer and more joyful life.

Songs of Praise

In my life, I have found song to be especially potent when applied to expressing praise and gratitude.

There seems to be a spontaneous connection to feelings of joy and the words of praise especially when lifted in praise to God. This is especially powerful when you “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord.”

I can think of countless songs that will lift my spirit even in times of the darkest sorrow or despair. These are most often songs of praise. What songs move you?

When I was a young girl mundane household chores were dispensed with quickly and much more happily when songs of praise were sung while they were being accomplished.

My Grandmother and I would sing hymns and songs of praise while washing the dishes in the evening. This was a wonderful way to end the day. Remembering this is a part of what I wish to share with you today.

Praise can both lighten the heart and lighten the burdens you bear. Most songs of praise or prayers of praise are interwoven with gratitude. Praise can support you and help sustain you in both your life and your faith.

It is such a simple thing, that it is often forgotten or ignored.

In the very act of praise, you are affirming deep truths. By the act of affirmation and by expressing the gratitude that is so often entwined with it, you unleash a mighty force. This is true in your own heart, mind, and Soul.

Praise is not prayer, although there are certain prayers of praise. Praise is a unique expression of your relationship with another. It is an appreciation and celebration of the love and grace of that relationship. It is such a deep understanding of the loving dynamic of that relationship that your heart bursts forth with gratitude and joy.

When you focus on how wonderful God is and all the great things He’s done… is doing… and even will do in your life,
your natural response will be praise, adoration and awe. Don’t let yourself ever get used to it… stay amazed!
        – Joyce Meyer

Using Songs of Praise As a Meditation

Just as prayer is different from praise, there is a technique I have used in my life that turns praise into a meditation or meditative experience.

Choose a song that expresses the gratitude or joy you are feeling. One of my personal favorites that I have used many times in this way is “How Great Thou Art.”

Either play the song or sing the song, and each time really consider and listen to the words in the song.

I have found to set up the song to play repetitively creates a joy that impacts me and integrates me with my whole being and aligns me with the Divine.

Let the meaning deep into your heart. Let your listening become the meditative experience.

Let the experience of the song help you calm your mind.

As you do this open your heart to love, grace, and gratitude.

Invite the Light of your higher Self into your life.

The Lighter Side of Praise and Gratitude

You can also lighten this experience up by doing other things while you are doing this.

As you listen to music that invokes praise and gratitude in the background as you go about your day, allow it to permeate your consciousness without requiring your full attention.

You will find the praise becoming integrated within the energy of your home and your life in this way.

I have found this a very powerful way to influence your thoughts and your feelings in a subtle positive way.

Focusing upon the bounty and the blessings you have received will stimulate an expression of joy.

The more you praise and celebrate your life,
the more there is in life to celebrate.
        – Oprah Winfrey

Praise and the Law of Attraction

Praise is also a powerful way to activate the dynamic Law of Attraction in a way that both honors and affirms the source of the good we have received in the world.

It is not insignificant that the gratitude expressed in songs of praise also ignites the Law of Attraction in a way that is asks nothing more but delights and enjoys the bounty and blessings that have already been bestowed on you. It is an expression of both our gratitude and our faith.

It is fine well and good to praise God and raise your voice in thanksgiving and praise in a church service.

However, when you bring that expression of joy into your daily devotions, into your home, and then incorporate it into the simple activities of your daily life as a backdrop, it takes on a different energy. It becomes integrated into the experience and expression of your gratitude.

Ultimately, you attract more of what you are expressing.

Integrate Praise In Your Exercise

Praise can also be incorporated into physical exercise such as walking or running, much like meditation.

Praise can spontaneously align your body, your mind and your emotions with the powerful loving presence of your Soul.

It can bring you into a greater awareness of your relationship with all that is around you and with that awareness, you become more receptive to the oneness of life and the true meaning of love.

Dual Awareness

An amazing aspect of consciousness is that you can be concurrently aware of your body, your thoughts, your emotions and the expression and sense of your Higher Self.

This multifunctioning aspect of the self can enable you to let any or every activity in your life become a meditative expression to empower and enhance your life.

This principle of dual awareness enhancing your consciousness is inherent in each of my Meditations For Daily Joy activity based awareness guided meditations.

The Spiritual Side of Praise

Using praise as a way to enhance and expand your spiritual awareness uses these same principles.

You are by your nature as a human being multifaceted and multidimensional. That is a part of the miracle of your being that can be experienced and expressed in a myriad of ways.

It is the benefit of experiencing the power of this alignment to which the vast array of spiritual devotional techniques strive.

As many roads can lead to the same destination, so there are many ways to come into a greater integration of your body, mind, emotions and your Soul, each of which ultimately brings you into greater relationship with the Divine.

There are so many possibilities and paths to the Light that you can experiment and explore a variety of ways to expand your consciousness and awareness.

Thankfully, there is no wrong way to open your Self to the Divine. This journey from the darkness into the Light and from the unreal to the real is directed by a Higher Power.

Life is a glorious adventure of being and becoming. Celebrate, with gladness and praise and enjoy the journey. It is your life.
        – Genevieve Gerard

I invite you to enter with a spirit of joyful playfulness and delight into ever increasing, growing and expanding, enlightened awareness of the full magnificence and glory of praise and gratitude in your life.

Namaste,

Pray To The Divine Mother For Healing

Pray to the Divine Mother for Healing

Read "Pray to the Divine Mother For Healing" article by Genevieve Gerard

This article is part of my ongoing series on Healing.

Today I am going to talk to you about connecting to the healing power and amazing love and grace of the Divine Mother.

The energy of the Divine Mother is archetypical and available to you when you bring the presence of the Divine Mother into your consciousness. As an integral part of the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) her power and her presence is available to you through your invocation at your invitation.

The Divine Mother is sometimes called the Holy Spirit and her presence is often experienced when people pray to Mary, Mother of Jesus.

The Threefold Flame

There is a light that shines beyond all things on Earth, beyond us all, beyond the heaven, beyond the highest, the very highest heavens.

This is the light that shines in our heart.
      – Chandogya Upanishad

The Divine Mother is associated with unconditional love, forgiveness, and grace and can be an active and powerful presence in your life. Many say she is more accessible in prayer and petition than the Father aspect of the Trinity. Countless across the world pray to Mary to intercede on their behalf with Jesus, the Son aspect of the Trinity.

Because Mary, the Mother of Jesus, has over the past two thousand years been the recipient of prayers and petitions to the Divine Mother, these energies have merged largely.

Yet, the Divine Mother as an eternal part of the Trinity remains distinct, as she is the eternal expression of the Divine Feminine, also known as the Mother of the World. This has been evident since the dawn of time.

In the patriarchal emphasis of church leaders in the past 2000 years it is through Mary, the Mother of Jesus, that humankind has reached the great love, profound forgiveness and vast unconditional love that is the essence of the Divine Mother.

When you consider and ponder on the prayer of the words of the Hail Mary prayed by faithful Catholics around the globe, you will see the powerful and profound way in which Mary, Mother of Jesus, has served as a representative of the Divine Mother to provide comfort, grace, and forgiveness.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee;
blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.

Amen

This powerful prayer invokes the presence of the Divine Mother who is known by many names, including the Divine Feminine.

As with all aspects of Divinity, the limitations we as human beings ascribe with names does not limit the power with which the Divine responds to our invocation and petition.

God, in the full power and glory of the Trinity, is available to you and to all human beings as a dynamic living part of the covenant that exists between God and mankind. This is a deep mystery and a profound truth.

When you call upon God, as the Father, as the Son, as the Holy Spirit or as the Divine Mother, God responds, undeterred and unrestricted by what words you choose in your petition.

God is not limited by our understanding of the nature of Divinity.
      – Genevieve Gerard

What I have come to understand about our human experience is that much of this is unknown to us and all of our feeble attempts, including mine, may fall short of the glory and majesty of what is real.

It is for this reason that I frequently, in my own meditations, say the Mantra:

May the Divine Self inspire me
and the Light of the Soul direct.

May I be led from the darkness into Light,
from the unreal to the real,
from death to immortality.
      – Mantram of Unity by Alice Bailey

To give you a glimpse and insight into the powerful presence of the Divine Feminine today, I have written an invocation to help bring the Divine Mother into your prayer or meditative experience in a way that will stimulate your conscious experience of the presence.

I invite you to experience this invocation, although it may be more a prayer than a traditional meditation, with an open mind and an open heart, dropping judgement and criticism and calling upon your own inner sense of truth and knowing.

This, like all meditations, is what is revealed from the promptings of your heart and the wisdom of your Soul. I make no claims that my thoughts and ponderings are the truth, but bring to you the opportunity to receive whatever experience is right for you to ponder and find your own sense of rightness and truth.

All I ask is that you say this invocation with the intention to bring the power and presence of the Divine Feminine (the Divine Mother) into your conscious awareness, your heart and your mind.

She will respond to that intention and invitation and provide you what you need from this experience.

A Prayerful Invocation
to the Divine Mother for Healing

Calm your mind, open your heart and invite the Light.

Begin by taking in a very deep and relaxing breath.

As you breathe in, open your whole being to being receptive to the love, grace and healing presence of the Divine Mother.

With your next deep breath, consciously open your heart and make it receptive to Love.

With your next breath, consciously open your mind and make it open to insight.

With your next breath invoke and invite the presence of your Soul, which you could imagine as a radiant golden point of Light about 3-to-6 feet above your head.

As you breathe in a full breath, invoke and invite the healing power and the healing Presence of the Divine Mother into your life.

Know that invocation and invitation open a portal for you to receive the blessings and grace of Her Divine Presence.

As you exhale at the conclusion of the breath cycle, release from your mind and your heart any pain or sorrows you may have experienced from lack of mother-love or nurturing in your life. Let any sorrow, sense of lack or loss be healed in her awe-inspiring love and grace. Let her power heal you, relieve you, support and sustain you.

With one more deep, relaxing and satisfying breath, open your Soul Light to receive the tremendous power and grace of the Divine Mother, the omnipresent flow of Divine Love through Her from the Source of Universal Love, the transcendent essence of unconditional love.

Let Her Love fill your heart to overflowing. Let Her Love and Grace enfold you.

As you connect with Her Presence, place your needs for healing before her by invoking:

Divine Mother, Source of Divine Love and dispenser of the healing power of Grace, I place in Your gentle care my need for healing. In this life, many of my needs for the Unconditional Love and Grace that You bring into the world have been unmet and unfulfilled.

I now ask You to fill my heart with Your transcending and transforming Love. I now ask You to heal my life that I may attract Love and give Love freely.

The failures of my earthly mother may have left wounds and burdens that trouble my heart and may have created limitations and misunderstandings of the meaning, purpose, and power of Love in my life.

I ask that your Love erases and heal all hurts. Understanding that my mother’s failures may have come from her own lack of love in her life, I now forgive her as a demonstration of the unconditional aspect of Love that Your Presence demonstrates to me.

Make me an instrument of Your Grace. Help me to demonstrate in my life what it truly is to Love unconditionally, without attachment or expectations.

Before You Holy Mother, I place all of my needs for Your unconditional Love. Within Your loving embrace and imbued with Your transcending grace, I ask forgiveness for any and all of the times in my life that I have failed to Love.

Assured of Your forgiveness I am able to be at peace. Embraced by Your Grace I am strengthened.

The unconditional Love that Your Love demonstrates to me serves as a guide in my life for how to Love others. Your Grace and Your forgiveness demonstrate to me how to be compassionate and forgiving.

I affirm my desire to be an instrument of grace and love to others in the world.

Now, I open my heart, my mind, and my Soul to receive Your Divine Love to support and sustain me for the rest of my days.

As I accept and receive this amazing blessing, all wounds and damage created by a lack of Love or a misunderstanding of Love are offered up for Your healing power in Your healing Presence.

My life is transformed and healed by your goodness and grace.

As Your Love fills me, filling in every crevasse of lack or loneliness; I extend the power of Your unconditional Love and transcending Grace out to all who touch my life.

I open myself to the Divine Love that flows through You and invite and invoke that flow to be an omnipresent force in my life that I can demonstrate and share.

As I am One with You, my heart is filled to overflowing with Love.

I now sit quietly, calmly and receptively open to the healing power and presence of my Soul as I let my heart be filled. I rejoice and give thanks for the amazing blessing I have received.

Pause

I now sit quietly, calmly and receptively with my mind open to wisdom and insight about love that I may see and experience the truth. As I am freed from attachment and illusion, I am freed to really Love.

Pause

Any lack of Love that I have suffered in the past, any shortage of Grace I have ever experienced is now healed and removed from me with Your healing Presence in this meditation.

I know that Your Healing is complete and Your Grace is sufficient for all of my needs. I give thanks that this great blessing that I have received today is available to me at any time of my need when I come to You in prayer or meditation.

I ask that I may now be a beacon of Love in the world and a demonstration of Your endless ability to forgive and that I become a source for Grace and Compassion to all who touch my life.

This I offer in gratitude for Your Healing Power and Your Healing Presence in my life.

This Love and this great blessing are mine without limit. Each time that I share Your Love with others I am holding open the door of Divine Love for the ongoing blessing and nurturing in my own life.

Each time I offer forgiveness and compassion, I am holding open the door to the Grace and Forgiveness You make available to me.

It is by giving I receive and it is by grace I am healed, so that my life is ever filled with the joy of loving, and of being loved.

Pause

No sorrow can stand or wound can fester in the Healing Power of Your Divine Love once You have been called forth.

Let me be an instrument to focus Your healing power to those I encounter in need of Your Divine Love and Grace that You have granted me. This is a service I offer to You, and to the world in gratitude.

In gratitude and appreciation of the healing I have received, I vow to be a source of Love in the world that I can move forward in my life, free from past sorrows, filled to overflowing with Your omnipresent Love, Your limitless Compassion and Your gentle Goodness and Mercy.

Now take a few minutes to ponder on this great blessing and go forth to love and live and serve humanity.

The blessing of Love on all that you do!

Namaste,

   Genevieve Gerard

The Forgotten Truth That Will Set You Free

The Forgotten Truth That Will Set You Free

Heart Nebula in Space with text Love Never Ends

This article is part of my ongoing Series on Love.

Each of us has within us a sense of what is true, what is real.

It comes from deep within and no amount of teaching or preaching can ever really dislodge that – deep inner voice.

It may be a truth you have rarely thought of. On the other hand, it may well be an expression of the wisdom of your higher Self or Soul.

It is an acceptance of what you simply know.

How do you know, that you know, what you know?
      – The epistemological question

After a lifetime of trying to explain and justify some truths that I just know to be true, I have concluded that these truths are preconscious and archetypal and form an underpinning for all of our awareness and all of our knowledge.

These truths resonate to the very depth of your being, spring forth as a comfort and assurance from your Soul, and give credence to the expression “the truth shall set you free.

It is interesting that when these truths are expressed to you, they resonate and somehow, almost mystically, you know them to be true. There is an inner recognition that says “yes, that is true.”

When a concept has been revealed to me that has that “ring of truth” to it, I realize that it seems to be something I have always known, even if I didn’t have the words to express it, or had never realized it before consciously. Perhaps I had thought it, or even acted upon it, but never put it into words.

I have learned over the experiences of a lifetime to trust that inner wisdom, that clarion ring of truth without exception. It has never led me astray. I invite you to use that test for all that I teach and write and encourage you to keep an open mind and heart, but disregard anything, if you like, that fails that test of inner knowing or truth.

I invite you to enter into that inner seat of wisdom where you recognize and know the truth. I encourage you to apply that standard to all teachings you come in contact with.

What is so profound and powerful about reaching that true point of knowing is that it is very freeing, giving understanding to the words, “the truth shall set you free.” From that center, in the core of your being, you can see clearly and old illusions and glamour’s fall away.

I believe this recognition of truth is even more profound than a statement of faith, for when your faith is enfolded in the armor of knowing, it expands.

One of The Forgotten Ways to Find A Core of Truth

I am writing to you today because it seems to me one of the forgotten ways to find that core of truth is in the phrase “Love Never Ends.” This truth seems to resonate with most people, even if it is not understood logically.

We love life, not because we are used to living,
but because we are used to loving.
      – Fredrick Nietzsche

This is not a new idea. St. Paul in his epistle to the Corinthians, in his now famous definition of love, writes in 1 Corinthians 13:8 (ESV) “Love never ends;” he goes on to list a number of things that will pass away that are esteemed, and goes on to advise in 1 Corinthians 14 to, “make love your aim.” Why? Because he knew and understood the real truth, that love is eternal.

Love is born on the wings of the Soul and
serves as an energetic bond between Souls throughout time.
      – Genevieve Gerard

Love is not composed of matter but rather is energy. As such, it is not limited by that which is made of matter, such as the body of the one who first stimulated the blossoming of love. Although the body is temporal, the love lives on.

When you love, in the full assurance of the eternal nature of love, you are free to love unconditionally. You are granted a perspective to forgive the ones you love, which is its own healing and freeing action. The comfort and strength that awareness of the eternal nature of love gives is amazing.

I believe Love comes into being through a Soul connection. Your Soul, and the Souls of your loved ones, are the eternal part of your being. This has a profound impact on empowering your love with the Divine Love that “bears all things, believes all things, and endures all things.” – 1 Corinthians 13:7.

Recognition of the truth that love never ends, frees you to love without confusing love with attachment or need. It sets you free in your love relationships to shed your fears of losing your loved ones. That, in turn, releases you from the worries that may, all too often, consume your thoughts about those you love.

Everlasting Love Meditative Moment

Begin by sitting quietly and calmly, bringing your emotions to a place of deep and profound peace.

Quiet your mind and let the chatter fade away as you drop self-judgment and self-criticism.

Assert your intention to have the wisdom of your Soul revealed to you in a way that is clear and provides insight and direction in your life.

As you do this, take the time to open your heart energy and be receptive to the Love that your Soul brings to you.

To do this you can visualize your Soul as a radiating point of golden Light about three feet above your head at the tips of your fingers if you raise your hands above your head.

Invite the Light of your Soul to provide clarity, insight, and truth. As you invite your Soul into your life as a source of love, wisdom, and guidance, it is also important to understand that you Soul is an integral part of the wholeness of your being.

From that point of radiating Light visualize the gentle descent of Soul energy into the top of your head (crown chakra), illuminating your mind, infusing and enlightening you.

Now visualize the gentle descent of golden white Soul energy through the top of your head down into your heart, gently expanding your heart, infusing and enlightening you with Love.

As this energy circulates from your Soul down your chakras to your heart and back up again, be open and receptive to the expansion in your awareness and understanding that this focus can bring.

Let your heart be healed and your mind comforted. Open yourself to the love that is the nature and being of your Soul.

Ponder for a moment on those you have loved, whether still with you or not, whether in their body or not and open your heart, your mind and your Soul to the sweet depth and comprehension of what it means that “Love Never Ends.”

Open your life to the freedom to love unconditionally, that comes when you release love from need and expectations, and open your whole self to the beauty and blessing of loving, resting in the glory and fullness of the eternal bond of Love.

Take this moment to appreciate and enjoy the true joy of love that never ends. Let yourself heal from any sorrow or fears that may have previously limited your ability to love freely.

Know that, “there is no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal.”

Know that healing comes from this Divine eternal Love. This Divine Everlasting Love is your forgotten truth. Ponder on this!

Experience the amazing healing and freedom that comes when you open your heart, mind and Soul to the blessing and the realization that Love Never Ends.

I invite and encourage you to find this forgotten truth of everlasting love and let your heart be comforted and freed by the eternal nature of love.

Namaste,

When You Want To Heal Someone

When You Want to Heal Someone

When You Want To Heal Someone - Serenity Sunday article by Genevieve Gerard

This is another article in my on-going series on healing.

Whether you are a novice or a seasoned healer when you want to give healing Light and provide energetic healing there are some important things to keep in mind.

These healing (literally meaning to make whole) guiding principles can increase the effectiveness of energetic healing and protect both you and the one you are striving to heal.

However, there are some ways that you can make sure that in your desire to provide healing you avoid unintended consequences and assure that right action is the result.  These are some of the important understandings that can guide your efforts.  They also can serve as a protection for the one to whom you are giving or sending Healing Light.

You need to remember that healing is a complex process that involves many factors.  Many of the factors and the dynamics that have resulted in dis-ease may be unknown to you as the healer.  There may be a Higher Purpose to the dis-ease or an important life lesson that is being revealed to the person by the disease.

These reasons and purposes are usually not known to the conscious mind.  The reasons may be a result of karma or things the person facing the dis-ease needs to learn through the dis-ease or come to understand about their choices, their decisions or their behavior.

Healing, true healing, happens on multiple levels and may require layers of healing, physical, emotional and mental.

It helps if you understand, all healing is in the sole direction and authority of the Soul.  The Soul is the part of the spiritual anatomy that, in its role as the Divine spark within you, that gathers from Universal Source the atoms that become your body for you to be born.  There are a myriad of miracles and factors that influence this process.  There are universal laws that must be considered as a new life is formed for a new birth.  Your Soul remains integral and essential in all healing.   It plays a vital part in both allowing the dis-ease and healing the disease.  It plays a vital role in bringing to you what you need to learn from every life situation.

Throughout your life adventure, your Soul remains a part of you.  Whether you are ever aware of it, or whether you connect with it as a source of unconditional love, guidance, and support (as I recommend.)  It is always with you from your first breath to your last, where it returns to the Creator.  It is an integral part of you.  It is a part of you as your life is being formed in the mind of God and it is the part of you that is eternal and returns when your life is through, to the heart of God.

It connects you to your Guardian Angel.  It functions unseen and unknown to help you learn and grow in this life’s adventure.  It is fundamental in any healing.  It is the force to which a healer provides energetic healing.  As a healer, you use your energy and your love to enhance and support the work and purpose of the Soul.  I believe any different direction of healing energy will miss the mark.

It is always the Soul that heals.  That is something to be grateful for because the Soul is never disconnected from Universal Source (God.)  The Soul is by its very nature both aware of and in complete alignment with Divine Will.  That is an important protection for the one you seek to heal.  The Soul being united with Divine Source in the process of creating the substance of your life remains as the force that directs and empowers what is good and right.

Not my will, but Thine be done.
        – Jesus

It also speaks to a very important factor for when you are engaging in energetic healing.  It is essential that at all times you remain aligned with Divine Will.  This can at times be difficult when you are providing healing to someone you love, but this alignment and surrender to Divine Will is an essential part of energetic healing.  To provide healing to another without the possibility of harm requires detachment.  This is why effective energetic healing is often incorporated into prayer in which the “healer” prays for healing.  I always use in any request for healing the protective phrase “within God’s will and for the highest good” I invoke the healing of… .

It is true that thoughts are energy and true that “energy follows thought” in every aspect of life, including energetic healing.  However, this ability to surrender to Divine Will is a core part of the responsibility of an energetic healer.  Although it is not always easy to consider or remember, death can be a part of the healing process.

If you have ever been with someone, who has lingered on the edge between life and death too long, you will understand this statement.  Life extended at all costs is not a blessing.  There is a reason they call death an Angel.  If you have ever sat with someone at the end of his or her physical life, you will start to understand what I mean.  Death can be a blessing and a transition to the next phase of life. Ponder on these thoughts.

As I write these words, I am reminded of the last line of the St. Francis prayer, “And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.”  It is all too easy to fall prey to the illusion that physical life is the only life.  As one who may provide energetic healing, it is important to consider the whole experience of life, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual or Soul life.

Whenever you are providing energetic healing, you need to be providing the healing essence from the power and wisdom of your own Soul (which comes from Source) to the Soul of the person you are intending to heal.  This Soul to Soul connection takes the healing process into the realm of miraculous and removes your personality and emotions from the process.

Miracles are a part of life.  A miracle is always possible.  As a healer your Soul, and your access to life energy can be used to help facilitate the process of healing.  However, it is only when the energy and intention are attuned and aligned with the Soul of the person you are striving to heal, and aligned with the Light and Love of your own Soul which provides access to the energy to fuel a miracle and the healing is in keeping with the highest good and Divine Will, that healing is right action.

Since you cannot know the highest good or the Divine purpose for every circumstance, the detachment and surrender aspect of energetic healing are of paramount importance.  For this reason, it may be most effective to pray while you are “laying on hands” for healing, or sending healing Light or Love across the miles.

An affirmation that may be helpful to say is:

I stand in spiritual being and, as a Soul, I serve.
I stand within the Light, and as the light shines throughout my form,
I radiate that light.
I stand within the love of God, and as that love streams through and from the heart, I magnetize the ones I seek to aid.
        – Discipleship in the New Age: Vol I, page 213, by Alice A. Bailey, Djwhal Khul

A powerful way that you can safely provide healing energy to someone in need of healing energy and healing Light is to first imagine the Light of your Soul as a radiating Light three to six feet above your head.

The Light of the Soul Descends
Soul Light Descending

Then visualize that golden Light descending into your field of energy (your aura) into the top of your head, down into your heart filling your heart with Love.  You may then wish to let that energy flow into and infuse your hands.

Then imagine the same Soul Light three to six feet above the head of the one you are endeavoring to heal and visualize the Light of their Soul descending into the top of their head and moving effortlessly to the place in their body and there being that needs healing Light.

To further empower your endeavor, imagine the Light from your Soul connected to their Soul and build into your mind’s eye a third point of Light to represent the Light of Divine Will.  You might also want to imagine that, as a pure white Light emanating from the heart of the Christ, or Source.  Let that healing Light flow freely along the pathway activating and empowering healing on all levels, physical, emotional and mental in surrender to ‘Right Action” and the Highest Good of All.  Visualize the other person in their perfected health.

This image of your Soul, sending forth healing Light and healing Love, to the Soul of the one who needs healing, supported and enhanced by Divine Will and Divine Love is the fuel for miracles.

This combination of intention and surrender to Divine Will is what spiritual or energetic healing is all about.

The final step in this is gratitude for the healing that has taken place.  Thanks for the blessing of the healing is an affirmation of faith and assurance that whether you see it or not, or understand it or not, what is right action for that person is taking place.  The expression of gratitude is also an affirmation of faith that the requested healing is moving forward and taking place.

Then go about your life in the deep awareness that you have given all that is needed and the healing Soul Light will continue to work in keeping with your intentions and purpose.

Namaste,

   Genevieve

What We Can Learn From A Childhood Prayer

What We Can Learn From a Childhood Prayer

Read What We Can Learn From a Childhood Prayer - Super Serenity Sunday article by Genevieve Gerard

The prayer that I am going to share with you is one that children have been taught to say before sleep for generations.

Importantly, there are deep meanings in these ritual words that should be pondered.

Although a short, simple prayer, it speaks to lessons and an understanding about life and relationship with a higher source.

This prayer was written over three hundred years ago and has endured the test of time.

So today, let us ponder and consider the deeper meaning of these words and what they teach about life and how they help you go to sleep in faith and with confidence.

Consider how this prayer with the faith and affirmation it provides, can help you surrender to sleep with assurance that you are safely held in the arms of love.

You have probably guessed by now what prayer I am talking about. It goes like this…

Now I lay me down to sleep.
I pray the Lord my Soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my Soul to take.

Meaning of the Childhood Prayer

Now I lay me down to sleep.

Now is the time to transition to sleep.  It is the intention to leave the day behind and enter into the peace and the blessing of sleep.  Sleep is a time of rest and restoration for you.

In sleep the body heals, emotions are processed and the mind reinterprets and gives insight through the process of dreams.  It is a very valuable and potent time in which your conscious mind rests and re-evaluates the experiences of the day from a very different perspective.

The process of sleep and the dreams that come are a very important part of your human experience.  Although well studied, the ultimate purpose of sleep and all of the levels on which it takes place is not fully understood.

What we do know is that sleep is essential for good physical health, emotional health and mental health.  Sleep is an integral part of your life experience and so to enter into the state of being that is sleep, is important.  To use prayer as a transition from waking to sleep is a way to calm your mind and prepare for the part of living that is sleep.

I pray the Lord my Soul to keep.

This phrase is a very simple affirmation that you have a Soul and you are, as you enter from conscious (waking) thought into sleep, reminded that your Soul is your link with the Divine and in God’s keeping.

Although you may not think much about your Soul, it is an integral and essential part of your being.  This most important part of you, the eternal spark of you, is placed in the safety and love of God’s keeping.

If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my Soul to take.

This phrase is a reminder and acknowledgement that you are an eternal being and that your Soul is the eternal part of you.

You are more than just a physical body, a mind and a personality; you are a miracle.  This understanding of the nature of life and death and the reality of eternity is a comfort as you are surrendering to sleep.

By the words “If I should die before I wake” you are addressing humankind’s deepest fear, the fear of death followed by the faith and reassurance that you are an eternal being when your say “I pray the Lord my Soul to take.”  This simple statement helps to release the illusion of death.  It speaks to a deep and eternal truth.  Life is eternal, you are an eternal being and your Soul forever rests within the love and grace of your Heavenly Father.

The Deeper Meaning of the Prayer

This simple prayer was for many of you, a nighttime ritual of childhood.  Rituals can be helpful and comforting in your adult life.  Recently I posted a Wisdom Wednesday blog to help people with sleep, in which the ritual of prayer before sleep was a recommended technique.

If you used the “Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep” prayer you probably also followed it with a list of those you asked God to bless.  This blessing of and praying for others is a powerful affirmation that God is in control of our life.  This makes the act of prayer an act of faith.

You may have repeated these words, as taught, without stopping to consider their meaning, their importance of what was being subtly said or affirmed.  You may have engaged in this nightly ritual without any consideration of what you were being taught about life, what you were being taught about God, or what you were being taught about your Soul.

Consider the very concept of using prayer as a way of connecting with God before you sleep.  Realize that once your conscious efforts of the day are over and you prepare to enter the peaceful healing state of sleep, you can turn everything over to God.  Your day is finished, your watch is concluded, you can now surrender control to God.  This opportunity to surrender to a Higher Power can be very comforting, allowing you to both relax and release the day.

This process of surrender is a way to let the day be past.  This putting that past into the past opens you to the unlimited potential of the next day.  It marks the line between what has been, what is now and what is emerging in the future.

Focusing upon your Soul, that Divine spark of your being that is for all eternity One with God can be both reassuring and inspiring.

Then, with the last line “If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my Soul to take” you are stating and affirming that your Soul, that which is eternal in your being, is returned to God when your life has passed.  This is true whenever this life is finished.  This becomes a simple statement of faith and what is real and true that you know on a very deep and archetypal level.

These simple statements of faith, assurance and surrender offer powerful truths that can be asserted as you transition from waking to sleeping by engaging your relationship to God as we release the reins of the passing day by calmly transitioning from day into night.

In this simple childhood prayer, you have affirmed deep principles and eternal truths that can be a comfort to you.

As you lay down to sleep, you are now free to let your body rest and be restored.  There is nothing you need to think about anymore today.  You are safe.  You have given those in your care over to God with your blessing.  You have let the past go with the conclusion of the day.

You can now be at peace.  You are embraced and held within the eternal as you let yourself receive the restoration and strength that sleep brings.

You can safely enter from the consciousness of waking, in which you try to be in control of your life, into the state of sleep with its dreams.

The “Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep” childhood prayer offers several significant affirmations of truth and faith and provides comfort and reassurance that you are an eternal being for whom life, sleep and even death are simply transitions of consciousness.

This prayer is, although mysterious, an amazing blessing you can celebrate as life, a gift beyond measure, a gift with which you and your loved ones are blessed each day.

Amen

Namaste,

Genevieve

Love Is The Greatest Law

Love is the Greatest Law

Love is the Greatest Law - Serenity Sunday article by Genevieve Gerard

In every spiritual journey, there come questions about how to live your life that is best in keeping with living a conscious and Soul infused life. Of course, humanity has pondered these questions since the dawn of time.

There are in every religion guidelines and rules that were created to help in those decisions of what is right, what is good. These guidelines often direct what is expected in a variety of situations or circumstances.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

In fact, many religion’s Holy Books contain a myriad of rules and regulations, laws that must be followed or at least considered by those who wish to live a spiritual life. However, guiding your life by laws and rules does not guarantee that you do what is right.

Some of these Laws are timeless. Some of the Laws are archaic and seem irrelevant in modern times, needing interpretation even to be understandable. It may be easier to think that all that is required of you to live a spiritual life is to “follow the rules” however, there is a higher calling. That is to let Love be your guiding law.

Although it is helpful to have guidelines for your behavior, sometimes rules can become an obstacle to living a life that brings you into ever-increasing awareness and expression of your Soul. As I write this post and meditate upon what helps or hinders us as human beings, it seems that just following laws takes you away from what living a spiritual life is all about.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF LAWS

When you consider these laws, I find it easiest if you divide laws into different types of laws.

Some laws are rules and guidelines for right human relationships, such as the 10 Commandments, a mix of guidance for what you should do and what you should not do.

There are also ancient laws from the Ageless Wisdom that direct you to live by principles, which are paramount, such as Harmlessness and Right Speech. These are not “Thou Shall or Thou Shalt Not” rules of conduct, but rather ways to lead your life for greater success to bring you into Right Relationship with others.

There are also in life and nature, Laws that govern life that cannot be changed or overruled. They always apply. They are impersonal but can be used to benefit your life when you understand them and grow in consciousness and live in harmony with these laws. A simple example of this would be the Law of Gravity, which can be harnessed to help you relax in meditation. It is always there. It is always true. You can count on it.

Similarly, some universal laws or principles can be harnessed for your benefit like The Law of Attraction or the principle that “Energy Follows Thought.” These can be life enhancing and life transforming but have much broader reach than just living your life by following rules. Understanding these laws can help empower your life.

Nevertheless, there is so much more than just following rules to living a joyful, happy and prosperous life. It is much easier to follow the rules and since you do not blatantly break the rules conclude that you think you have done all that you need to do. The rules, the laws, then take the place of you needing to be in right relationship with God, with your Soul, with your fellow man.

LOVE IS THE GREATEST LAW

These thoughts and considerations between the law and love are not new. St Thomas Aquinas wrote hundreds of years ago extolling the virtue of following, not a series of rules but Love as the guideline for right action and right relationships, between people and between you and God. His teachings have often been summarized into saying, “Love God and do as you please,” or in some translations, “Love God and do as you will.”

Certainly when Jesus was asked to clarify what was most important of the many laws that the Hebrews followed when he walked upon the earth he replied, “You should Love God with all your heart, your mind, and your Soul and you should love your neighbor as yourself.” I have always found this passage in the Bible most instructive for my life.

I have long strived in my spiritual journey to let Love be the guiding principle for how I live. To use Love as the determining factor in relationships with others and with my relationship with God seems a much clearer principle than a legalistic list of rules and laws. Jesus concluded, as St. Augustine later wrote, that Love was the most important guideline for your life, not Law.

To let love be the guide in your life and behavior is a higher standard. When St. Augustine wrote, “Love God and do as you will,” he concluded that if you truly loved God, what you do would honor and respect both God and others. This is also in line with many of the guidelines that are extolled in the Ageless Wisdom of Harmlessness and Right Speech as right action.

As Jesus taught, “God is Love.” When you express Love, you are aligning with the Love that God gives to you and the Love that is the nature of your Soul. It is Love that is the nature of your Soul and Love that is the basis of the “I-Thou” relationship with God that demonstrates the unconditional grace and forgiveness that so bless a spiritual life.

There are those who say that learning to Love is the whole purpose of living. What you learn when you truly love is one of the most valuable things in the universe. It is said that Love is the most powerful force in the universe and it “sets the spheres in motion.” Learning to Love, striving to Love, especially loving unconditionally gives you a truly extraordinary life.

When Love is considered as the way to conduct your life, many positive and significant factors fall into place. This is particularly the case in relationships with others and in what is experienced in your relationship with God and relationship with your Soul. Being in right relationship with God brings with it “The Peace that Passes Understanding.” Being in relationship with your Soul brings Love into your life for Love is the very nature of your Soul. Your Soul loves you completely, understands you completely and as it aligns with your personality, your mind, and your emotions bring to you a sense of well-being that is unique and powerful.

Joy is the spontaneous response to being in right relationship with your Soul. Being guided by Love, and the wisdom of your Soul opens your life to happiness and wonder.

Your Soul is the part of your spiritual anatomy, the spark of Divine Light that has created you, that is eternally One with the Divine. No matter what you do. No matter where you go. Whether you make major failures or mistakes in life or whether you are successful beyond your dreams, this unity of your Soul with God is unlimited by space or time. It is your birthright, and it is your essential nature. And Love is the nature of your Soul and the nature of God. THEY ARE INSEPARABLE.

This basic truth makes Love always the answer, no matter what the question. If you consider this, any ethical decisions you must make in life will be the right choice when you let Love be the guide. To demonstrate Love to others in light of what is truly loving is often a challenge. To make decisions in your life that demonstrate loving yourself is often a challenge. To extend that to showing your Love for God is an even higher standard. It is these considerations that are inherent in Jesus’s two great laws and St. Augustine’s moral shortcut of “Love God and do as you will.”

It is in the consideration of Love as the director of your behavior, that all the laws of any religion are fulfilled. To let Love guide you in your decisions can transform your relationships and can transform your life into a life of greater satisfaction and joy than you can imagine. So many aspects of what is so often frustrating in relationships disappear when you give Love and return Love.

Issues of forgiveness, compassion, and understanding fall naturally into place when Love is applied. If you love God with all of your heart and your Soul and you are loving to others and loving to yourself you are automatically living in agreement with the Ten Commandments, and the rules and codes of conduct created from ancient times into the present.

By doing this you honor the “Golden Rule.” Your actions follow the teachings of the Ageless Wisdom of harmlessness and right speech. Right action and right relationships are automatic when Love guides all that you do.

Let Love be your guide and it will fulfill all the laws.
– Genevieve Gerard

Love is not passive. It is an active and dynamic force for good in the world. It is strong and supported by the Will to Good. To live Love, you are bringing peace and goodwill to the world. It starts a chain of events that makes the world a better place for all.

In today’s often violent and dangerous world, it is good to consider the strength of Love and the power of Goodwill and the “Will to Good.” Love is not weak, and it can stand up for and protect with power, but never hate or negativity. Learning how to live this aspect of Love is vital to a peaceful world. Helping others to not harm themselves or others is a part of loving intelligently with will and wisdom.

LOVE AFFIRMATION

Since “energy follows thought,” it may be helpful to say and use this affirmation when you consider how to relate with another.

“I Love You.”

By Loving You I wish for you
only what is good and beneficial to you.

In all that I am and all that I do with you
I strive to honor and respect who you are.

I know we are different people with different needs.

I love me and strive to honor and respect myself
doing what is good and beneficial for me,
physically, emotionally and mentally.

I Love God and in all that I am and all that I do
I strive to express and demonstrate that Love.

AS YOU USE THIS AFFIRMATION, CONSCIOUSLY CONNECT WITH YOUR SOUL.

Using this affirmation as a guide to determine how Love is best served in any situation in life will be empowering for you. Ponder on this!

Namaste,

Genevieve

Namaste Means

Namaste Means . . .

Namaste Means - Genevieve Gerard - Super Serenity Sunday Article

Namaste is an ancient Sanskrit blessing.

It is said that Sanskrit is the most ancient of languages.

Sanskrit has been called the Universal language, as the basic building block of all language is contained within Sanskrit. It was the language created to communicate with God. The Gayatri, which is known as the first and oldest prayer, was created in Sanskrit.

Simply, Namaste is derived from namas = salutation, bow + te = to you.

You might have noticed that I end all of my posts and meditations with this ancient blessing. Today I would like to share with you the profound and essential meaning of Namaste.

Namaste is both a greeting and a blessing. It is an acknowledgment of a deep truth about whom and what we are as human beings, especially in relationship to the Divine and with one another.

It is pronounced “Na ma stay” with the first two a’s like the first “a” in “America” and the ay as in “stay”, but with the “t” pronounced soft, with the area just behind the tip of the tongue pressing against the upper-front teeth with no air passing.

When you say Namaste to someone, you can press your two hands together, palms touching and fingers pointing upwards, thumbs close to your heart (or brow chakra) and bow your head gently as you face them.

Thus, it is both a spoken greeting and a gesture, a Mantra and a Mudra. The prayerful hand position is a Mudra called Anjali, from the root Anj, “to adorn, honor, celebrate or anoint.”

The hands held in union signify the oneness of our dual cosmos, the bringing together of spirit and matter, or the self meeting the Self. It has been said, that the right hand represents the higher nature or that which is divine in us, while the left hand represents the lower, worldly nature.

Great power is released when we greet one another with Namaste because using that greeting is an affirmation of an old mystical truth of our essential nature. Excavations for Indus civilization have revealed many male and female terracotta figures in Namaste posture. These archeological findings are dated between 3000 BC to 2000 BC.

Namaste is simply interpreted to mean, “The Divine spark in me recognizes and honors the Divine spark in you.” This is a powerful thought because it affirms that as human beings we are One with the Divine. In many cultures, the Namaste greeting is acknowledge by a bowing of the head and in some cultures even a bow.

I honor the place in you where Spirit lives
I honor the place in you which is
of Love, of Truth, of Light, of Peace,
when you are in that place in you,
and I am in that place in me,
then we are One.

It is good at times to transcend the habit and ritual of things to consider their actual meaning. I have often thought it is significant, that this bowing and ritual greeting is so widespread across cultures. This greeting speaks to your unity in the human experience as all being children of God who are endowed with the spark of Divine Light as an integral part of your being. It affirms your humanity and your Divinity as co-creators with God.

The reason why we do Namaste has a deeper spiritual significance. It recognizes the belief that the life force, the divinity, the Self or the God in me is the same in all. Acknowledging this oneness with the meeting of the palms, we honor the God in the person we meet.

In saying Namaste, we greet, honor and acknowledge that great truth. And, as we bow or greet another, we celebrate the unity in our human experience. The logical conclusion of the Namaste acknowledgment is in the awareness of the fellowship we share as the children of God. We are One Humanity.

As we acknowledge this essential brotherhood, compassion for our fellow man ignites in our hearts. We are united by this profound understanding of life. Our perspective can expand to consider how to relate to one another in light of this identification of the other, as a walking living breathing manifestation of God.

It makes all of humanity your brothers and sisters and makes every good and service that you can provide to them an act of service to God. It encourages the important principle of harmlessness as the guide to your actions and relationship.

Namaste is not a meaningless or simply a ritual greeting. It is the declaration of a great truth. When you treat others in a way that expresses and honors that truth, you have made a significant step toward right human relationship which includes right speech and right action.

These dynamic ways of interacting with our fellow man and women, of harmlessness, right speech, and right action can become a guidepost for all relationship behaviors. Relationships guided by these principles are in keeping with the Namaste greeting. The more you live by these principles, conscious, aware of your Divine spark, and the Divine Light within others, the more you create a world of peace and joy that allows fulfillment and success for everyone.

When you walk through your days, as your eyes meet others, greet them with a silent Namaste and at that moment offer the recognition and affirmation of the Divine spark within.
      – Genevieve Gerard

As you say Namaste to those you meet, you are also acknowledging and aligning with the Divine spark that is within you. You are confirming and asserting the truth that we are all Divine Light, beloved and blessed, as you bless and greet others.

This simple greeting and gesture is an affirmation and an invitation to great joy.

This little thought takes very little time, it happens as fast as “energy follows thought.” Doing this sets up the basis for more harmonious and satisfying relationships. You are in this way also serving as a beacon of Light in the world. You are sharing your Light and joining your Light in acknowledgment and community with others. You are blessing them and blessing yourself. Ponder on this!

You may also find that this greeting and affirmation will increase your personal sense of joy and wellbeing. Connecting with others through the conscious expression of the meaning of these ancient words will serve to increase your sense of unity that reminds you that you are not alone in the adventure and journey of living.

Giving a blessing, or greeting someone with the acknowledgment of Namaste, has an incredible impact on your day. I invite you to try this and observe how it influences your experiences.

To further support your understanding of the meaning of Namaste, I would like to share with you a YouTube video recently shared with me in response to my “Mystery of Eternity – Magic of the Soul,” article.

To watch this 4-minute video on YouTube directly click Namaste.

It was the sharing of this beautiful YouTube on Namaste, that prompted me to finally write and share with you my thoughts on the meaning of Namaste.

With my heartfelt appreciation, I bless and honor you and appreciate you as the Divine Light that you are from the depth of my Soul, the Divine Light and Divine Spark within me.

Namaste,

   Genevieve

The Blessing of Love on All that You Do!

P.S. The word “Namaste” can also be used as a closing notation (without the accompanying prayerful hand and bowing head gestures) in written communications similar to “sincerely,” “best regards” or “love.”

Healing Energy is Empowered by Love

Healing Energy is Empowered by Love

How to send healing energy from a distance

How to Send Healing Energy From a Distance by Genevieve Gerard

Everything, including our body and our thoughts, are energy.

Sending good intentions and good thoughts when someone is in need of physical, emotional, mental or spiritual help can be more important than you might realize.

Thought energy is particularly powerful and has been proven to influence matter.

There is a realm of reality that goes beyond the physical
where in fact we can influence each other from a distance.
      – Deepak Chopra

This means that distance healing is not only possible but very real.

The world of matter has many limitations.

It is easy to get caught up in those limitations and begin to believe that the limited world of matter is all that is real. I believe nothing could be further from the truth.

There is a material reality of course. What you perceive with your physical sensations of hearing, sight, taste, touch, and smell are known to be real.

However, to believe that reality is limited only by perception would be to deny a deeper and more profound reality. By knowing the ways that energy works, you can open yourself to a reality that expands your consciousness. Therefore, you can live incorporating and using your full potential as a human being.

You can live in the world of matter, enjoying and appreciating all of the many delights that it has to offer. And, you can live in the world of energy and spirit and express the amazing freedom and power that it provides. Ultimately, I believe one of your goals, as you walk the earth, is to live simultaneously as fully human and as a spark of the Divine.

Love one another and help others to rise to the higher levels, simply by pouring out love. Love is infectious and the greatest healing energy.
      – Sai Baba

Loves Role In Healing

This is of particular significance when you are engaging in healing across the miles or when physically separated from someone you love. If you have ever been away from someone you love, you know that the nature of love is unlimited by both space and time. Although you may miss their physical presence in your days, their absence does not diminish the love that you feel for them.

My Grandmother used to say, “Distance is to love like wind to a flame, it puts out the small but enkindles the large.” If you have ever been parted from a loved one you realize that physical distance does not impact love. Your love can flow across the miles without limitation.

Love is the empowering force for all energetic healing. It is this truth and this reality that enables you to do energetic healing at a distance. Since that connection remains in place, healing can happen no matter what the physical separation. You can have a positive impact on someone through the power of thought and intention.

The Souls Role In Healing

When you engage in healing at a distance, you are working in the realm of etheric energy and through the bonds of love and the connection between your Souls. This is especially true when you are sending healing Light, Love or Power to a loved one, but the same principle is true when you are focusing on healing for someone you may not know personally.

Remember that in all energetic healing, it is the Soul of the one who needs healing to whom you send energy. Ponder on this.
      – Genevieve Gerard

This is a safeguard as it is their Soul that knows what is truly needed. This also speaks to the reality the Soul is ultimately in control in all crises that require healing. That the Soul is always a manifestation of Divine Presence, Divine Grace, and Divine Love also provides a subtle surrender to Divine Will that serves as a protection to the one for whom you are intending and invoking healing.

When connecting Soul-to-Soul you also have the added benefit of protecting yourself from taking on the physical, emotional or mental dis-ease of the person you are trying to help.

Intention & Invocation Roles In Healing

In all energetic healing, the intention is important. It is known in Quantum Physics that the intention of an experimenter influences the outcome of the experiment. Intention is energy; energy does not have any time or space constraints (unlike our physical senses.) Particles in our cells exist in a field of potentiality – meaning intention can influence the behavior of particles.

The very act of sending healing energy across the miles serves as an invocation. It is this merger of intention and invocation with the Soul connection that makes distance healing miraculously effective.

Because this work is energetic and spiritual it is free from the limitations of the world of matter. It is open to the invitation of healing angels or healing devas to enhance your efforts. You can add to the healing force your prayers. You can use the power of visualization by “seeing” the person as if they were whole and healthy. This focuses your energy on wellness and not the disease of ailment.

Right Action In Healing

Again, I stress that the energy you send for healing is sent from your Soul to their Soul enfolded in love. Always in healing, it is important to focus on right action for that person because the Soul has the wisdom and understanding about their lives and their lessons that you probably do not have. This is an import factor as you never want to use your personal will in healing another. Your thoughts and energy are there to support the process of healing, not control it with your personal will or desires.

Although energetic healing is not subject to any of the limitations of the material world, I have always found it helpful to know where someone lives or where they are physically in the world when I tune in to provide energetic healing. That may only have value as a mental tool to enable me to focus, but I have found it helpful over the years. That is a subtle difference in energetic healing from prayer where the invocation is a petition, versus being active in the healing process. Certainly, prayer is effective in distant healing and works.

Meditation Can Set The Stage For Healing

My gift to you:
Here is a quick meditation technique for Distance Healing that you should find helpful.

First, Calm Your Mind, Open Your Heart, Invite the Light.

As you calm your mind, put the week behind you, surrender your personal will and release your desires for a particular outcome.

Clearly, state that your intention is for the Highest Good of the one to whom you are sending healing light and energy.

As you open your heart, focus on the bonds of love that connect you. From your heart to their heart, realize that love is a powerful and tangible energetic force.

Let your unconditional love flow forth to provide them comfort and support. Trust that this is received and goes forth as an invocation with your intention.

The Light of the Soul
Soul Light

Then imagine or visualize your Soul (with unlimited access to your higher source) as a golden white light 3-6 feet above your head.

Then imagine the Soul light of the one you intend to heal as a point of golden white light 3-6 feet above their head.

Along this energetic pathway, visualize the energy of Light, of Love and of Power gently flowing across the space that separates you physically, knowing that you are unified energetically through etheric substance.

If there are others joined with you in the desire to heal and help this person, build a network of etheric substance to empower the healing by imagining each of them as Souls, with their golden-white light radiating above their heads and link (in groups of three), your Souls to the Soul of the person that needs healing.

When finished, place your right hand over the left hand in a sweeping motion. This is the mudra of detachment.

Namaste

This triangulation of energy is a powerful force for good. The meditation can be expanded to include a larger group, adding in more triangles of energy and always Soul-to-Soul.

When you are also bound by love, such as with a close group, family or friends, you can also add triangle lines of energy from heart-to-heart, building an etheric network of love.

As a group, this healing network is even more powerful and has far-reaching implications, as you can participate in the multiplied healing efforts unlimited by either space or time.

By working in this way, through your Soul to their Soul, you will be able to join your energy with theirs for whatever healing result is right for them. It is important that you do not use any of your life force, but instead tap into the unlimited higher source provided through your Soul. It is important that when you work in this way that you do not let your desire for a particular outcome influence you. It is important to keep your personal will harnessed and only invoke what is right for them, understanding that the Soul is in control of both the outer form of life and all events.

Here is a Mantra that you can say that is helpful for this:

Let the Soul control the outer form and Life and all events
and bring to Light the Love that underlies the happenings of the times.
Let wisdom come and insight. Let the future stand revealed.
Let inner wisdom demonstrate and outer cleavages be gone.
Let Love prevail.

Lessons Learned From Injury and Illness

Lessons Learned From Injury and Illness

Insights into Healing

Insights into Healing - Genevieve Gerard - Super Serenity Sunday

This is another article in my on-going series on Healing.

I dare say there is not a single human being who has not at some time in their life longed for healing, either for themselves or for a loved one.

Prayers for healing are a part of every spiritual path. Beyond prayers for healing are the hopes and aspirations for a life (ours or a loved one’s) to be blessed with the strength and the vitality of health.

The fact that onset of illness or injury often stimulates prayers for Divine intervention gives a hint into the higher purpose dis-ease can play in your life.

It is the intrinsic nature of God and likewise the Soul to in all things work toward good.
               – Genevieve Gerard

It is hard to see suffering, injury or illness as a movement to the greater good, but I can say from the perspective of a healer, a teacher and a guide these experiences are often the catalyst that brings about great personal growth and transformation.

Having worked for many years with individuals through the challenges that injury and disease introduce into their life experience I can say with complete confidence that there is a purpose behind dis-ease. There are also lessons to be learned behind accidents that result in injury or disability. I have learned that healing is always possible. That these events or circumstances bring you to your knees in prayer or stimulates you to seek the healing power of your Soul is a significant factor. Ponder on this!

In many lives, the pain, injury, or disease or the possibility of death that underlies many a healing crisis becomes a transformational experience that creates opportunity for great growth.

This may be an unusual perspective on life experiences that are often feared and avoided, but after so very many years of helping people, I find this to be unquestionably true. In fact, over the years, this factor was so significant that I have given workshops and seminars for Doctors, therapist, health care professionals, and para-professionals on ways to help their patients both heal and come to an empowering resolution of these life-changing events.

In those days, I presented these ideas from a rehabilitation perspective and now I present them from a spiritual perspective but the message is the same.

I believe an injury, disease or disability comes into your life with a Higher Purpose. Discovering that purpose and aligning with that purpose often brings healing. This may sound strange but if you look at the people around you and most significantly at your own life experience you can sense the deep inner truth of that statement. To me, that has always been a comfort because I knew that when an individual got in touch with that purpose, miraculous healing became possible.

It was in my observation of these miraculous healings that I learned much about the working of the Soul and the healing power of the Soul. To see medical opinions having declared that some had only a very short time to live, and then see them go on to live happy and productive lives for years is amazing. Also to see someone with a severe and catastrophic injury be restored to a dynamic successful life stimulated me to learn more and understand more about the deeper nature of life and the role of the Soul in the healing process.

The role that God plays in these miraculous situations cannot be denied but neither can the role that the Soul plays. It is through observing the occurrence of miraculous events that I began to understand the co-creator role of a human being with the Divine. This dual dynamic of the Soul as the spark of the Divine that brings your life into right relationship with God, as a child of God, and observes that through His love and grace brings an activation of a wide variety of universal laws and principles, that makes real healing happen.

An invocation from one of my favorite meditation mantras says it best with the words.

Let the Soul control the outer form and life and all events to bring to Light the Love that underlies the happenings of time.

– Alice A. Bailey, Djwal Khul

Discipleship in the New Age, Vol. II (Mantram of Unification)

I have found when counseling and coaching people who are in need of healing that meditation can be used to support healing when it is focused on understanding their life purpose. This shift in focus can be very revealing.

Often it introduces new goals or creates a completely new direction. It is in this way that, a healing or health crisis is at times a significant life awakening that brings about transformation.

This change often starts with an alignment of Soul Light with your physical body, and emotions. It also may involve using the mind to gain greater control over the debilitating pain that so often accompanies injury or dis-ease. The Soul has controlling power over the body. This is often an inherent factor in healing.

Questions To Ask Yourself So You Can Heal

When asking for healing, either for oneself or a loved one there are some questions it is wise to consider.

Among these are:

What lessons are being revealed by the presence of the injury,
disease or illness?

What would be the best right action or outcome?

What restrictions of energy exist that may have contributed to the disease or illness?

Often clearing that energy block through insight, meditation and prayer can release the restriction so that your body begins to respond in a whole and healthy way. Releasing the blocked energy often requires insight and understanding of both the how and the why you have choked back the energy.

Do I need to forgive myself or someone else?

At times forgiving, either yourself or another can open the pathways for a natural flow of energy that can result in spontaneous healing.

As mentioned in the mantra shared above, the process of Soul or spiritual healing generally involves a bringing to Light what has held back the free and natural flow of energy. Prayer and the laying on of hands by those with healing intention are effective ways to stimulate the energetic flow that has become blocked or congested.

In any request for healing, I always recommend an invocation or caveat such as, “for the highest good of all” or “within God’s Will” or “in harmony with the laws of karma and the overall plan of evolution.”

These caveats clarify that the purpose of healing can be aligned with right action. Although it is difficult to consider, from the perspective of the eternal life of and nature of the Soul, the release of the physical body through death, especially when diseased and aged and losing the ability for healthy function, is a form of healing. That is why death is often seen as an angelic presence.

In the process of healing from the perspective of the eternal part of our being, death is a release. In saying this I am reminded of the words of St. Francis in his prayerit is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

The Soul is an integral element to all healing and works on all levels in natural alignment with both the implications of karma, the overall plan of evolution and in accordance with the highest good of all. Through its eternal nature the Soul has the wisdom of what is the right action in each and every life situation and circumstance and has complete and unconditional love for the one who needs to be healed.

Your Soul has been with you throughout all of eternity and will remain with you throughout the eternity that is still becoming. When it heals, it heals you on all levels and prepares you your next experience of life. Therefore, this union of you with your Soul is integral to all healing experiences in life.

This relationship of your Soul, God, and eternity are a part of the mystery and deep magic of life.

These are deep questions to be pondered, meditated upon and prayed about. It is often in the face of disease or the approach of the end of life that the peace of understanding and revelation are granted.

It is by surrendering to the healing power of the Soul that miracles happen, whether that miracle is the restoration of health and vitality or the entrance to the great adventure of eternal life. Ponder on this!

Namaste,

   Genevieve

Understanding The Power Of Mantras

Understanding the Power of Mantras:

With The Mantram of the Soul

Understanding the Power of Mantras - Genevieve Gerard Super Serenity Sunday

This article will give you an example of a Mantra (which is a sacred utterance in a word or group of words that has psychological and spiritual power) to help you understand and explain how and why they work energetically.

The Mantram I have included in this article is one I have personally used for years.

The saying of this Mantram daily as a part of your practice of meditation will help you build the bridge to your Soul in consciousness.

Today we will use this as a stand alone meditation, so before you begin you might wish to calm your mind, open your heart and invite the Light.

As always when you meditate, I suggest you have a journal handy to record any thoughts or impressions you may receive from your Higher Self (your Soul.)

The Light of the Soul Descends
Soul Light Descending

It is often helpful to imagine or visualize the Soul as a radiating golden Light 3-6 feet above your head.

To facilitate the creation of a pathway to your Soul there are certain building blocks that help to extend and pave the road. Many of these are Mantra that have come from ancient teachings. A Mantram may have been written 5,000 years ago, or it may have been written yesterday. Today we will use a Mantram from ancient times, however; you can create one from the guidance of your Soul.

To expedite your movement on the path of meditation by the use of a Mantram you begin by stating a truth. In the stating of a truth, you use a number of very powerful energies.

  1. You use the power of intention.
  2. You use the power of affirmation.
  3. And, you use the powers of invocation and evocation.

Each of these energies are in many ways similar, but they are subtly different.

So, let us take one of my favorite Mantrams and break down
how these different powerful energies work together.

The Mantram of the Soul

I am the Soul

This truth contains both affirmation and identification. An “I Am” statement has great power because of the dual voice of those two truths.

And also Love, I am

This is also an “I am” statement invoking affirmation and identification. The addition of invocation, calling in the energy of Love, adds power to the statement, as the invocation is like a prayer added to the affirmation. It is truth because you are the Soul (you cannot leave home without it). It is your nature that the Soul is a part of your essential being, and the nature of the Soul is Love.

Above all else, I am Will and clear design

Now this section not only contains the power of identification, and the power of affirmation but it adds more invocation and clarity. Will and intelligence are being added to describe not only the nature of the Soul but also the nature of the human personality; that part of the self that is working in concert with the Soul and the mind.

The Will is the constantly creating part of the self, the clear design. This constantly creating nature of the self works, whether you are consciously aware of it or not, so by directing and invoking the Will you take conscious control of your life to achieve the results you wish, by invocation, evocation, and clarification of intention.

My Will is now to lift the lower self into the Light Divine

You have now made a clear statement of intention of where you wish your personality to go: into the Light Divine. The Light Divine is another word for Spirit, so you are stating both your intention to take your lower self (personality) to your Higher Self (Soul), as both an invocation and evocation of your Will, the creative part of your nature, aligning your intention with the Divine part of your nature.

That Light I Am

Again, by affirming the truth of your identity as the Soul Light, you add the power of identification, the power of affirmation, the power of invocation and the power of evocation (invitation for the Soul energy to make itself known.)

Therefore, I must descend to where the Lower Self awaits my coming

At this point in the Mantram, let me review what you have done.

  1. “I am the Soul” — You have identified with your Soul using the power of identification, and you have affirmed that identification.
  2. And also Love I am” — As you have continued with the power of identification and affirmation you have added the power of invocation, which adds power of clarification.
  3. “Above all else, I am Will and clear design” — You have now invoked the will, not only identifying with it as you invoke it, but also affirming it and defining it.
  4. “My Will is now to lift the lower Self into the Light Divine” — You have now directed our creative intelligence by your Will and further affirmed the intention of the personality to connect with your Soul not only by invocation and evocation but also by the power of clarification and description.
  5. “That Light I am” — This statement affirms that in addition to being a personality who invokes your Will and directs your intention, you are also identified with that which is Divine, the Soul. You are both simultaneously the creator and the created.
  6. “Therefore, I must descend to where the lower self awaits my coming.” — The “I am” of the Soul–Love, Will and Clear Design–affirms that it has heard the invitation of the personality. It has been invoked, it has been evoked, and therefore it must respond. It must make itself available to your personality. Moreover, the personality knows this and in complete confidence and assurance, simply waits.
  7. Now, having reached the point of the fusion, the Soul energy circulates from the place of the Soul (often visualized as a point of Light about three feet above the head, because the Soul is most often perceived as residing in the upper reaches of the higher mind in your etheric body.)

The Soul energy descends along with the gentle circulating breath, down into the head, down all of the chakras (nested as centers in the etheric body about two inches outside of your dense physical body.) You have invited it, you have affirmed it, you have invoked it, you have evoked it, and the Soul has responded.

You can now enjoy this descent and circulation of energy for as long as you wish.

You may, in this interval, receive clarity about the nature of your Soul. You may experience the profound Love, Joy, and Acceptance that are the nature of the Soul.

You may recognize this consciously, or you may just feel a gentle circulation of energy that is completely beyond thought. It is a state of being. It does not matter how or if you experience anything here. You know what you have done. You have identified with your Soul.

You have specifically identified with the Love nature of your Soul, the Will nature of your Soul and the Creative Intelligence nature of your Soul; and you have invited them into the integrated wholeness of your personality: your etheric body, your physical body, your emotional body, your mental body, and you have circulated it through all of your chakras energy centers of your being through your breath.

Now, when you feel ready, the Mantram continues with an invocation that affirms what you have done.

That which intends to lift and that which invokes the lifting
are now at One

“That which intends to lift” is the Soul, and “that which invokes the lifting” is the personality. Again, the clarification of identification, the intention of invitation, and the power of invocation and evocation, have achieved their purpose in a statement of Will.

Such is my Will.

This is simply the reality affirmed.

The OM, the sacred sound carries that energy out into manifestation as it is sounded.

If you incorporate this Mantram into your daily practice of meditation and then sit quietly and receptively, you will have empowered your meditation with the magic of the Light, the Love, and the wisdom of your Soul.

The healing power of the circulation of Soul Light from your Soul and through all of your chakras and all of your body as an integrating and unifying force can not be understated. This balancing and aligning of your physical body with your emotional body and your mind and personality with your Soul opens you up to the wholeness and integration of your being in a way that is exciting as it is igniting the Divine Spark in you. Ponder on this.

Bringing the Light of your Soul into your conscious awareness is the most empowering and transforming benefit of meditation you can receive. Therefore, I suggest that you use it daily, and you can certainly use it more than once a day if so inclined.

This blending of Soul Light to integrate the Soul with the personality is a tool of great value. Using the magic of this ancient Mantram in your meditation will empower you in amazing ways.

Namaste,

Genevieve
