How to Use Empathy Effectively

Learning How to Use Empathy Effectively

Read Learning How to Use Empathy Effectively blog post by Genevieve Gerard

Empathy is an ability with many different definitions.

They cover a broad spectrum, ranging from caring for other people and having a desire to help them, to experiencing emotions that match another person’s emotions, to knowing what the other person is thinking or feeling.

According to Simple English Wikipedia, empathy is a word that means that someone is able to share or understand the emotions and feelings of another person.

I believe empathy is a gift.  However, for some who are awakening to their higher power, their Soul, it can be a challenge.

From reading many recent posts on Social Media, it is clear to me that empathy is rarely understood.  Those who are striving to be of help and service to humanity in this powerful time are often unaware of the higher purpose of being an empath and more importantly understand how empathy works.

I wrote this post because,

Learning how to use empathy effectively is an essential part of the process of spiritual awakening.
        – Genevieve Gerard

The openness of your energy field to the emotions and pain of others can be very useful when you are trying to heal another person.  However, when you are only moving through your life and find yourself feeling the pain and feelings that are not your own, it can be confusing.  Part of the process of empathy emerging in your consciousness is for you to learn to identify what comes from your individual consciousness and what is from your expanded consciousness.

There are some truths about empathy that I will explain briefly in this post along with some techniques and practices that can be helpful.

One truth is that spiritual gifts, like empathy, emerge spontaneously.  On the other hand, they may be difficult to integrate into modern life in our modern world.

We do not live in a society where spiritual experiences are explored and talked about or explained in daily life as a natural part of life.  As more and more individuals are facing the challenges of awakening without the support and guidance of a guide or mentor, confusion, and misunderstandings abound.

One of the advantages is this process of awakening is happening too many and not to only one individual.  However, the danger of these phenomena emerging outside of traditional spiritual instruction is the plethora of misunderstanding and misinformation that can be rapidly spread as well-meaning people struggle to teach others beyond what they know.

Recognizing that you know what you know, and recognizing that
you do not know what you do not know — this is knowledge.
       – Confucious

For many centuries, the source materials for volumes of spiritual knowledge have been kept secret and behind a veil.  In earlier times the Ageless Wisdom was revealed under the guidance of a master who worked with an individual or a group of students in a spiritual community that supported the nurturance and unfolding of their spiritual gifts.

In those times and under those conditions empathy was understood as an evolving part of a spiritual journey.

In our modern society, a spiritual journey is often not only misunderstood but since it is an experience outside of “consensus reality”, it may be labeled, diagnosed and medicated away.

If you are undergoing a process of spiritual awakening, it may be helpful to have a guide to the changes of enlightened awareness that can protect you from the danger of the misuse of your gift which can lead to misery and discomfort.

These risks are unique to our times and the trappings of our modern society.  When someone’s empathy gifts are emerging, and they begin to realize they are feeling the pains and emotions of others they most often suffer in silence.  When you share what you are experiencing to those who have never had the same experience you stand a good chance of being judged as crazy.  Worse still, you may judge yourself as crazy.

Fortunately, the emergence of the concept of empathy into consciousness groups gives some framework with which to begin to understand this strange reality.  However, although this loose explanation within social networking groups may be sufficient to provide a label that enables you to realize that you are not crazy, it falls short of teaching you how to use your gift without harming either yourself or those you seek to aid.  Knowing that you are not the only person who feels and experiences other people’s pain and emotions, falls short of teaching you how to use your gift for the service and support of others on their life journey.

Likewise, how empathy can be utilized as a dynamic part of your life journey is still missing.  What you can do to wield your gift from a centered and calm perspective is rarely addressed.  What you can do to protect yourself from the pain and raging emotions of others is a source of much confusion and misinformation.

How you incorporate your empathy into your social relationships is also important.  There are both ethical issues and issues of right relationship that you need to consider.  Your empathetic gift which has the underlying purpose of enabling you to be of help and healing to people can create harm if not used with compassion and understanding.

Certainly helping is the intention of most of those blessed with empathetic vision.  It is doubtful that you would have ever received the spiritual gift of empathy if you wanted it to harm others.

However, in all spiritual endeavors as in all of life, there is always the danger of unintended consequences.  It is to avoid those unintended consequences that it is important that you learn to use your empathy to heal, not hurt.

Most importantly, that also means to learn how to be an empath without hurting and harming yourself.

As I read through the hundreds of problems in posts shared on social media, I have become increasingly aware that adjusting to empathy without an underlying understanding and structure of the why and how to use the gift is a problem for many.

Using the gift of empathy effectively identifies some basic principles that are of great importance to understand.  Learning to recognize what is coming to you empathetically and then being able to discriminate and differentiate it from your personal thought reactions and feelings is an important first step.

Discernment and discrimination are of vital importance to use your gift of empathy in a way that both is of healing help to those around you without creating harm or hurt in your life.

Meditation is a valuable tool in helping you to do this.  It is also important to have a way to transcend, transform and transmute those emotions in yourself, and as a healer in others.  Part of being an effective healer and efficient as an empath is learning mastery of your emotions. Ponder on this.

Understanding your emotions is a significant step in your spiritual evolution, and it is often a challenge that happens concurrently with the emergence or increase in the spiritual gift of empathy.

Mastering your emotions is a significant life challenge.  Taking that mastery to a level where you can work with healing the emotions of others requires a deeper understanding of the nature of the emotional body and how you interact energetically with others.

Feel Free of All Negative Emotions

Understanding emotions are so important that in my body of work I created two different products from the teachings of the Ageless Wisdom to explain emotional transmutation.

The shorter (10 minute) version is called, “I Am Feeling Free.”  It allows you to learn to calm strong emotions and transmute fears and doubts. The longer and more technically complex guided training called “Feeling Free” takes about 20 minutes and is a guide to feeling free forever of all negative emotions.

Check out these short guided trainings on Amazon:

Feeling Free
Guide to Feel Free Forever of All Negative Emotions

Both involve learning to master your emotions and transmute and transform the energy.  Feeling Free is especially valuable for an empath because when you do it with the added intention of clearing and raising the emotional energy of everyone in the room it impacts the experience of everyone as a healing event.

Empathy Is A Gift

What is most empowering and significant to understand about being an empath is that not only are you aware of the emotions and hurts of others but that the purpose of that awareness is to empower you to help heal those hurts.  That is why empathy is considered a spiritual gift, and not as you may fear it to be a spiritual curse.

Using the universal law that “energy follows thought” makes intention a most powerful tool for an empath.  Part of the education of an empath is to enable them to use their empathy as a healing tool for the betterment of othersThat is the higher purpose for which the gift is available to Lightworkers and Light-bearers.

It is important to understand that as an Empath when you transmute, transform and transcend your negative emotions you (with intention) have the power to impact the vibration and emotional pain of all who are around you.  That is why Empathy is a gift and power you must learn to use wisely with discrimination and discernment.

How to Use Empathy Effectively

Meditating upon these issues is helpfulClearing your emotional field is essential. Understanding how to do that and incorporating emotional mastery into your life as a healer is also one of the keys.

Compassion and respect are essential elements of using your empathetic gift.  Practicing kindness and learning to be non-judgemental are attributes that are important to master.

Recently, as a lifetime student of the Ageless Wisdom, and a lifelong meditator who is also a healer and an empath, I have been feeling directed to offer an opportunity for empaths to learn and grow into how to better understand their gift.

Since I can only explain and write so much in a blog post, I am willing to offer my experience and wisdom as a longtime counselor, life coach, and healer, to teach and train those interested in learning to master their empathic gift through a series of webinars.

I will begin with a general webinar for those who need and desire this informationIf you are interested, you are invited!

Please simply join my community email list (I will only send out things occasionally and promise never to flood you with email) if you would like to be notified about the webinar.  When the time is right, I will then contact you personally by email to invite you to join the online event.

Out of the first empathy webinar event (and experience) and based on the needs and interest of the participants, I will develop a series of educational webinars on How to Use Empathy Effectively.

I trust the wisdom of the universe to attract to this event those who can grow and learn from it.  I encourage you to trust the knowledge of your internal guidance to know if this is something that would benefit you or a close friend.

If you are interested in learning more about how empathy works and how you can master your empathy gift, please opt-in above with your email and I will notify you about the webinar and any further articles I write on empathy.

You, as an empath have been given a powerful ability to having a healing presence and impact on those around you.  But you need to learn how to use your gift without taking on the emotions and pains of those you endeavor to help and heal.

To not learn that mastery and the Ancient Wisdom can make empathy a painful journey in a modern world where what you are experiencing is outside of the understanding of the world around you.

As a longtime empath, helping those who are awakening with the gift of empathy to understand it and use it effectively is something I have been directed to do in my meditations.  If you wish to learn more about How to Use your Spiritual Gift of Empathy, these webinars are for you.

The Heavens Respond To The Cries of Humanity

The Heavens Respond To The Cries of Humanity In Miraculous Ways

Read The Heavens Respond To The Cries of Humanity article by Genevieve Gerard

This article is a part of my ongoing series on Angels and Meditation.

This morning the revelations of my meditations are focused upon the way that the heavenly hosts respond to humanities prayers for help.

Call Upon the Divine

When an individual, or even more powerfully and profoundly a group, call upon the Divine for healing or Divine intervention with a world problem, the prayers and invocations create an activation of energy to which all Divine beings respond.

That response is always aligned with Divine Will and the overall plan for earth’s evolution. In the heavenly hosts, where the Will of God is known, all response is compatible with that plan. In all miraculous responses, the highest good of all is seen and considered. The Angels always work from that perspective. It is their nature and their commitment.

Within that scope miracles can be activated and empowered in response to humanities prayers and need. Miracles are the mysterious and at times seemingly magical power of prayer and invocation. This is why prayer works.

Miracles, although they may appear to exist outside of humanities scientific understanding, are always compatible with both the Will of the Creator and the Creator’s Divine Plan. More and more revelations of truths are being revealed by science that may explain how energy works to explain what has heretofore only been understood as miraculous.

These profound mysteries involve a connection between humanity and its evolving consciousness and the angelic kingdom. God did not create humankind and then leave it to its own devices to struggle through the eons of time isolated and adrift.

Throughout the history of humanity, there are world teachers and world saviors that have come to reveal spiritual truths previously unknown or unclear to humanity. No matter what religion or dogma shapes the messages of these exalted beings, or how limited humanities understanding of these truths may be, this outreach from the Creator for a relationship is ongoing. The sad fact is that all too frequently people use these revelations and guidance as an excuse to divide humanity.

That spiritual revelation is used to make war rather than to focus upon Gods Love to bring humanity into greater relationship with Him is a mystery.
              – Genevieve Gerard

The relationship between God and humankind is a covenant relationship that is best explained as an I-Thou Relationship.” The relationship is one that is embedded with Divine Love and filled with Divine Grace.

The relationship with humanity and the relationship with the Divine, and the unique dynamic that exists only between God as Father and humanity as the dual creation, as a Son of God and Son of Man, is both powerful and profound. The Divine spark that God gave to human beings breathed life into His creation. A creation that was made in His image and is unique in all of creation.

Inherent in this creation of man endowed with God’s Divine spark is the brotherhood of man. To use religion and relationship with God to divide people is a violation of every spiritual truth revealed by every spiritual guide, avatar or world savior who has every walked the earth to enhance God’s relationship with humanity.

The Divine spark that resides within every human being enables humankind to work and relate with God, not only as the creator but also as Jesus taught, as a Heavenly Father. This Father included free-will for humanity. This free will is a factor in humanities ongoing co-creator relationship with God and humanities constant need for forgiveness and Divine intervention.

Angels Respond to the Cries of Humanity

Whereas human beings enjoy their co-creative freedom, the Heavenly Hosts and Angels are eternally blended into the dictates of Divine Will. Certainly, this differentiation is significant when Angels respond to the cries of humanity.

Since the beginning of time on this planet, Angels have served as the messengers of the Divine to humanity. During the eons that have passed, Angels have followed their in-volutionary life path. As humanity has strived upon its evolutionary path, Angels have remained in the realm of spirit.

These paths, angelic and human have come together under the auspices of the Soul. When at the ensoulment of a new human life the aid and service of a Guardian Angel has been enlisted, there is a commitment to the life of that human being for assistance and protection. This relationship between a human being and a Guardian Angel has, over the eons created a bridge of awareness and consciousness.

Being a Guardian Angel for a human being, who has both the Divine spark of co-creation and free will is a sacrifice and service that the angelic kingdom offers as a manifestation of their nature as beings of Love, to serve humanity and God to help bring about the fulfillment of God’s plan for humanity.

This unique dynamic created a sacred relationship both activated and overseen by your Soul. The consequence of this merging of angelic consciousness into the co-creative, free-will aspects of human consciousness has resulted in a thinning of the veil that once separated human life and angelic life.

This has been accelerated by humanity calling upon the heavenly hosts for help and intervention in their lives. The Angels have responded and through that response and interaction have also learned and evolved their awareness and understanding of human life.

You Can Make A Difference

This expansion of consciousness of both humanity and Angels has created a greater awareness and understanding of both life expressions.

The Soul, your Soul, resides in the angelic realm. Your reach for the union with your Soul, the Divine Spark within you, is fostered by your desires, prayers, meditations, and invocations that help to blend further and fuse these energies.

The human effort of activating this merger of energies, through the invocation of personal will and meditation, have been rewarded by Divine Grace. Divine Grace is inherent in the human evolution process and an active force in revelation.

The merging of your human personality with your Soul opens the portal to the next stage in human evolution. Ponder on this.

Ancient Soul Mantram

It is to empower and enhance that integration that I offer you the ancient wisdom of the Mantra of the Soul for use in your meditations.

Mantram of the Soul – for Soul Infusion

Take a deep breath in and as you visualize the energy rising up to a radiant point of Light above your head.

Then say:

I Am the Soul
And also Love I Am
Above all else, I am will and clear design
My Will is now to lift the lower self into the Light Divine
That Light, I Am
Therefore, I must descend to where the lower-self awaits my coming.

Now breathing deeply, slowly and evenly, visualize the energy descending from the Soul, down the central energy channel through all of the chakras.
From the crown to the ajna
From the ajna to the throat
From the throat to the heart
From the heart to the solar plexus
From the solar plexus to the sacral center
And from the sacral center to the base of the spine.

Then circulate the energy back up
From the base of the spine to the sacral center
From the sacral center to the solar plexus
From the solar plexus to the heart
From the heart to the throat
From the throat to the ajna
From the ajna to the crown
And from the crown back up to the Soul.

Repeat this pattern circulating the energy back through all of the chakras and down to the base of the spine and back up three or more times.

When you feel the energies have merged, continue by saying:

That which intends to lift
And that which invokes the lifting
Are now at One
Such is my Will

Conclude by sounding the OM 3 times

          – adapted from the works of the Tibetan Master Djwhal Khul

For a greater understanding of how Mantras can empower your meditation, please read my article on The Power of Mantras.

You will find other articles on my website that contain mantras for the purpose of experiencing and integrating your Soul with your personality, which is a major step in the process of your spiritual growth and enlightenment.

As you reach for the touch of your Soul in your meditations, you will be actively and consciously working to bring the Angels into greater cooperation and support to humanity.

This can only be accomplished by a human being with the activation of your free will through your role as a co-creator with the Divine as you become increasingly aware of your Soul as a part of your full power and potential as a human being.

I encourage and urge you to meditate upon this with a variety of the meditations offered in the related links below.

I also encourage and invite you to explore the relationship with your Guardian Angels through the related links below.

Keep calling for Divine intervention and when you use your meditations and prayers to reach your Soul or the realm of Angels, add your free will and co-creative efforts to a plan and purpose that is beyond your current understanding but can be revealed to you and transform and empower everyones life in surprising ways.

The Dance of Love Throughout Eternity

The Dance of Love Throughout Eternity

– Even in death love prevails

Read The Dance of Love Throughout Eternity by Genevieve Gerard

This article is part of my ongoing Series on Love.

A profound truth that resonates deep within your Soul is Love Never Ends.  It defies logic and yet is cherished and depended on upon, especially when you lose a loved one to the tyranny of death.

Love and death are archetypically tied together in the human consciousness.  Death is one of life’s experiences that makes you wonder about life with a need to understand.

It is often the loss of a loved one through death that causes you to begin to explore life beyond the limitations of matter and the five senses.  It is not uncommon for the death of someone you deeply love to open your mind to reality and consciousness that is more than what you can touch and feel in the material world.

It may be that when you love someone, your awareness expands beyond the limitations of your physical awareness.  Take a look back over your life and consider whether life is larger and more wondrous than what is only physical.

Love is the key that unlocks your understanding of life beyond what is only physical.  This dichotomy exposes the reality and understanding of life as a dual existence.  This duality requires merging what you experience and perceive with your physical sensations, with the perceptions of your Soul.

It is both mysterious and miraculous that you can be aware of physical reality and spiritual truths simultaneously.  As you explore this duality, you begin to understand the full potential of what it means to be a human being.

Love is the greatest teacher of truth that you have in your life.  The lessons of love and perceptions of love are realer and may be more important than any doctrine ever preached.  This is because the lessons of love are recognized deep in your heart and Soul.  When you love someone you know you are transcending into what is real and meaningful in life.

Love allows you to take on power that is not available with any other human endeavor.  It is a unique force that is available when death brings the sorrow of separation.  In spite of the stark reality of mortality, the love is still there.

That makes the death of a loved one an opportunity to learn and expand your spiritual consciousness.  Somehow, the very breadth of love and the stark reality and pain of death are incongruent.  In spite of the loss and the sorrow of someone who you love dying you are confronted with the awareness that your love somehow not only did not die but also understand to the depth of your being could not die.

Life’s lessons, the particular lesson that love reveals come with a resonance of knowing that transcends understanding.  Although love’s lessons may support and fuel faith, they transcend faith.  Love teaches truth.  Truth has the power of revelation that extends into the very essence of your being.

Your Soul has no doctrine, no dogma, and no denomination, yet it always resonates with the truth.

You may not understand the hows & whys of this, but the knowing and recognition that comes with acknowledging the truth are unmistakable.  Your Soul recognizes the truth and understands the mysterious and miraculous with a profound sense of knowing.

Even in the midst of mourning and sorrow you realize that love is not limited to the physical body which you now know and understand to be just a temporary vehicle for your Soul.
       – Genevieve Gerard

There is within you an amazing teacher that always knows what is true.  That insight opens your awareness to understanding the mysteries of eternity that are otherwise incomprehensible and unknowable.  It is that knowing that becomes apparent when striving to cope with the death of a loved one.  Ultimately, to lose someone you love to death brings you face-to-face with the truth that love cannot die.

THE RING OF TRUTH

It is the test of truth known by your Soul that I ask you to apply to any and all of your teachings.  Simply give any experience the test of the “ring of truth,” if it resonates in your Soul as truth, you cannot be misled.

When you open your life to love, you create a bond that is beyond both time and space.  You open the door to what is Divine in life and what is eternal.

Comfort comes with realizing that love transcends even death itself because it exists within eternity.

Love is the bond that connects your Soul to the Soul of your beloved.  This bonding of love is beyond the physical expression because it happens between two Souls.  This bonding of love cannot be destroyed by death because it exists within the eternal.  This bond of love is what you know is still there as you face the fact of mortality.

You may have to learn to live without the companionship of a loved one’s presence in your life, but you can draw succor and strength from the realization that the bond of love continues throughout time.

When you consider the many ways and roles in life that express love, the eternal nature of love begins to make sense.

Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love, time is eternity.
         – Henry Van Dyke

When you remember all those you have loved in life, and the many diverse ways that love manifests in your life, the expression of eternal love through our life begins to make senseWe all seek to bond with others through loveThat occurs from the initial bond of love that an infant seeks from its MotherIt continues into the love of close childhood friends and the romance and sexual love of finding a mate.

Love ultimately directs all of the relationships of our lives.  Friendship bonds can be stronger than familial bonds.  There are also sisters and brothers whose relationships are so much more than friends are.  These differing themes and variations in relationships that provide the expression and support of love in life create what I call, “the dance of love throughout eternity.”

YOUR DUALITY IN LIFE

Each life adventure provides different roles and relationships through which you can experience love.

It is with this insight on love that you can expand your understanding and awareness to make peace with the concept of physical death.  It is through this expansion of your consciousness that thousands of little mysteries can be clarified.

To live in a temporal word of matter that experiences the loss and heartbreak of death yet be an eternal Soul who is a spark of Divine Light requires a dual reality and requires a dual awareness.  This duality in your consciousness can be a strength that explains many of life’s challenges.

This duality of a Soul, who has a body but is a being that is so much greater than your body, provides strength and guidance.  Ponder on this!  Coming to understand your dual natures as you face life’s challenges and potential is revealing.

Death, by its very finality and limitation, brings you face-to-face with the Soul as it is only with an understanding of the life of the Soul and the actual nature of Love does death become bearable and comprehensible.

The eternal nature of your Soul and the eternal nature of love can be a comfort to you at a time of loss.  If you ponder these thoughts and put them through the test of the truth of your Soul’s knowing, your awareness expands to comprehend much in life that has previously been unfathomable and incomprehensible.

Love is exalted as the life lesson that honors the bonds of love throughout eternity as an expression of Divine Love in our adventure of life.  So remember that it is a dance of love throughout eternity.

Namaste,

Genevieve

Easter Ponderings on Resurrection

Easter Ponderings on Resurrection

Read Easter Ponderings on Resurrection article by Genevieve Gerard

On Easter, we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus.

There is perhaps no more miraculous event in the story of the life of Jesus than the resurrection. There is perhaps no part of Jesus’s story that fills the human heart with hope and promises more than the resurrection.

The very possibility of resurrection defies the laws of matter as we understand them. Resurrection is the ultimate victory over death. Resurrection is the triumph of spirit over matter. It is a mystery that is beyond our comprehension, and it is a mystery that is not explained in either the Bible or church teachings in any century or denomination. In spite of the inability to understand the miracle of resurrection, the very possibility and promise of it fill the human heart with joy.

During this time while churches across the planet celebrate with the powerful words “He is risen,” “He is risen indeed” it may be valuable to ponder upon what the resurrection says about the life of Jesus and what it says about our spiritual journey and spiritual responsibility. It is all too easy for you to dismiss the lessons of the life of Jesus as unrelated to your life. After all, He was the Son of God. He had an edge that you do not have.

From my very early forays into theology, it has been clear that what Jesus demonstrated in His life, His example and His mission was more than historical stories and miracle stories. These stories were an example and teaching that had relevance for how we were instructed to live our lives, to find our way in the spiritual journey.

There is no greater mystery in the life of Jesus than the miracle of resurrection. Even those of deep and unwavering faith can affirm that the resurrection was real and is real without understanding how it was possible.

I believe even Jesus’s most beloved disciples and the women who went to his tomb on Easter morning, may not have fully understood the resurrection at the time. Thomas, whose very name became associated with doubt, refused to believe in the resurrection unless he placed his hands into the wounds made by the crucifixion. Even though the story tells us, that Jesus was walking and teaching His disciples after his passion.

To understand both the miracle of the Resurrection and what was being demonstrated about the nature of life, we need to expand our understanding of the nature of life itself; and, more importantly, the nature of matter, the nature of consciousness and most importantly, the nature of the Soul.
        – Genevieve Gerard

In some ways, the event of Resurrection is entirely miraculous, testing and at times transcending our ability to believe. In some ways, the Resurrection is no more miraculous than the event of life itself. I believe to glimpse what Resurrection promises we must expand our understanding of the nature of life to way beyond our usual comprehensions. We must open our awareness to the eternal nature of our Soul, to the great potentiality of consciousness, and stop limiting our thinking to the dense matter of our physical vehicle.

If you are a Christian, think of the Christ, who came not to be served by others but to serve them in joy, in peace, and in generosity. For these things, these are not mere words, but acts, which go all the way, right up to their last breath. Even their death is a gift, and resurrection is born from this kind of death.
        – Jean-Yves Leloup

Much that is miraculous, much that is mysterious, becomes possible and more understandable when we assert the fact that although we have a body; we are as a consciousness much more than a body. For the Soul to manipulate the atoms of matter to create a physical body once the material body has deteriorated is a repetition of the events that the Soul engages in to bring into life and substance every child that is born. The principle is the same. It is the consciousness, or particularly the continuity of the consciousness that Christ brought to his resurrected body.

The miracle of life itself and the miracle of the resurrection is entirely under the direction of the Soul. What is to me the most important part of the Passion of Jesus is what it teaches us as spiritual beings about the relationship with our Soul. What Jesus demonstrated that we can use as an example for our own lives was complete obedience to not only the direction of His Soul but perfect obedience to Divine Will.

It is evident in the stories of His suffering in Gesthenemeny that He was coming from two very different perspectives. He was demonstrating both his personal life and His Soul life. Certainly he did not want to be arrested, scourged and crucified from his human perspective. Whether He as a personality knew or fully understood the importance of the next few days of His life is something that theologians will probably be discussing and arguing about for the next 2 thousand years.

What is important and significant is not if he had pre-knowledge of the significance of His sacrifice and all of the magical and mystical ramifications of it. What it seems is important is the obedience to His Soul and God that he demonstrated. That is a lesson that we can strive to achieve in our own lives and our own journey.

What is certainly clear if we examine the life of Jesus is that he was in touch with the direction and promptings of His Soul and through that relationship in an ever growing relationship with God who He came to regard not only as the Source of Love in his life but as His Heavenly Father. He taught us not only that “God is Love,” but also oneness with the Divine as He taught “I and the Father are One.” These are an understanding and awareness that only comes from the Soul. This is an understanding and awareness that is achievable by developing a relationship with your Soul.

It is a magnificent miracle of the human experience that we exist in a dual relationship with our material human body, with our emotions and our thoughts, while we have a Soul which is eternal. These different parts of our nature are revealed and direct our life in different ways. Indeed, learning to identify the prompting of your Soul from the desires of your personality is a big part of the spiritual journey. Learning to call upon and utilize the power of your Soul or the power of the Soul of another in healing is a lesson taught time and time again in the spiritual life, especially when your life is dedicated to others.

It is through surrender to the Soul that the body, emotions, mind, and integrating efforts of the personality can come into awareness of the eternal essence of your being.
        – Genevieve Gerard

In my Easter morning ponderings on the resurrection, I find it inescapable to realize that the miracle of resurrection is the secondary result of the surrender to the Soul. It is through surrender to the Soul that the body, emotions, mind, and integrating efforts of the personality can come into awareness of the eternal essence of your being.

Through a relationship with your Soul, especially in the decision to “let the Soul control” is a new awareness of how miracles are created. It is through the time you live and demonstrate the dual life of a disciple that the life and example of Jesus become most edifying and significant. It is through the expanded awareness that life and consciousness are not limited to your physical body that the whole concept of resurrection becomes a real possibility.

While what was demonstrated in the Resurrection remains beyond the strength and determination of most of us at the time of our death, stories are told throughout time of a loved one appearing to communicate after physical death, usually a message of love and reassurance to those they have left behind. If we consider the Resurrection of Jesus one more demonstration, one more instruction about the unlimited possibility and potentiality of life, and we open our hearts and minds actually to consider what all of this means, we are reassured that death has no victory, and the life of the Soul is eternal.

It is by pondering what the Resurrection demonstrated about the truth of life, the nature of life and the eternal nature of life that we are freed from the fears that our limited comprehension fosters.

The possibility and promise that Easter gives, even if we fail to understand it fully, is the joy and assurance that consciousness is eternal. We, as the children of God and the carriers of the spark of the Divine enjoy that eternity as a part of our birthright. In the Resurrection, the life of Jesus once more demonstrated to us, as he did throughout his life, what we truly are. So we celebrate with joy the life and the teachings of this master of enlightenment, pondering what his resurrection teaches us about our life, our own Soul and the awesome potential of our own consciousness. Let there be light!

Namaste,

Create Peace in Your Heart and Mind

Create Peace in Your Heart and Mind

Read Create Peace in Your Heart and Mind, Wisdom Wednesday blog post by Genevieve Gerard

To be at peace in your heart and mind is a blessing.

One of the primary ways that meditation can influence and enhance your life is by helping you reach a state of peace.  The fruits of meditation are a calm mind and inner peace.

The human mind is a busy and very active place.  The non-stop chatter of your mind is a powerful factor that impacts your life in a variety of ways.  Learning to master the power of your mind affects your life in dynamic and dramatic ways.

Perhaps one of the most tangible benefits of learning to meditate is to begin to develop mastery of the undisciplined chatter of what ancient teachers of meditation have long called the “monkey mind.”

Buddha described the human mind as being filled with drunken monkeys, jumping around, screeching, chattering, and carrying on endlessly. The unfocused mind rambles and chatters.  This constant “thought noise” is called (Chitta).  It is with the content of your Chitta that many of your life problems are created.

The positive results of learning to quiet and calm the mind of its ceaseless chatter relate to a number of different aspects that impact your life.  The ability to reach a state of peace and calm in your mind and with your emotions has significant health implications. This is inner peace.

Inner Peace Creates Peace
     – Genevieve Gerard

Just to achieve a calm and peaceful state of mind is formidable.  By learning to discipline your mind and your thoughts, you open your life to a mastery that has a far-reaching influence on being successful and achieving your dreams.

Issues as far reaching as how well you cope with and manage your life stress have profound implications for your success in life.  How well you can sleep is also related to your ability to gain mastery over the chatter that seems to run continuously in the backdrop of your mind.  Achieving peace of mind is a significant factor that relates to how much you enjoy your life.  Therefore gaining mastery over your mind and emotions to achieve peace of mind and calmness is important.

One of the most amazing parts of the human mind and one of the most effective results that can be life changing involves an understanding of the creative power and potential of your mind.  A basic principle of thought that can either serve you or destroy your wellbeing is that “energy follows thought.”

The principle of energy follows thought is what makes the “Law of Attraction” work to create miraculous results.  What it is easy to miss or fail to understand is that thought is a powerful form of energy.  When that thought is in the mind of a human being, thought is a primary creative force.

Part of the miracle of humanities creation is that the creator created you to create.  As a human being, you are endowed with a spark of Divine Light.  That spark of Divinity places you in a cooperative role with God as a co-creator of your life.

Your life has both meaning and a purpose.  You as a human being are a beloved child of God.  That imbues you with a creative or co-creative power with God.  The creative tool that directs the creation of your life is the energy that is generated by your thoughts. You can create peace within you!

That makes what you think important.  It is certainly much too important than to be ignored and allowed to run amok creating what you fear and worry about.  This is a danger as the undisciplined chatter of your thoughts creates problems and disasters in your life especially when you worry, focusing on what you fear.

Controlling your thoughts and, releasing your fear are the primary components that fuel the wisdom “Change your mind, and you can change your life” – GG

Focusing upon what you fear, what might happen and the tireless self-recriminations that I call the “should have, could have and ought’s” works against you.  Because of the powerful emotional charge that is generated by fear, fear can be not only the most limiting thought but also one of the most harmful.

Learning to harness the power of your mind and then to convert your thoughts into a powerful force that works for your benefit and success is one of the most significant advantages of meditation.  Ponder on what you can do to still your mind. What I have always found to be amazing is that the reality explored by great spiritual leaders and great business leaders reveal the same truth about the power of thought.

When the yogi starts to meditate, he must leave behind all sensory thoughts and all longings for possessions by quieting the waves of feeling (Chitta), and the mental restlessness that arises therefrom, through the application of techniques that reinstate the controlling power of the untrammeled super consciousness of the soul.
      – Paramahansa Yogananda

Your thought need not be mindless chatter that instructs the universe to create what you fear and worry about.  You can choose to use the miraculous power of your mind to create the life of your most amazing dreams.

The choice is yours.  You can live a life of unlimited possibilities with the potential to achieve as much as you dare to dream, or you can create the disasters you fear through worrying.  Of course, that choice is influenced by what you choose to think.  It is manipulated by the content of your thoughts and impelled by the energy of those thoughts.

Man, alone, has the power to transform his thoughts into physical reality; man, alone, can dream and make his dreams come true.
      – Napoleon Hill

Thought Management is so potent and can be so transforming that it can appear to be magic.  However, it is grounded in universal principles.  This principle that “energy follows thought” and be the most useful instrument you can ever be given to impact your life.  Or conversely, can create terrifying limitations and anxiety as you create with your thoughts the disasters and failures that you fear.

I can think of no more practical reason to learn to gain mastery over your Chitta and your fears than the magnetic influence of thought.  Throughout the history of thought management, thought leaders and spiritual teachers are amazingly congruent on this point.

I find it both relevant and significant that the business world and the spiritual world are in agreement about how your mind impacts your life.

Of course, as a spiritual teacher, I advocate meditation as the tool to help you gain mastery of your thoughts.  However, one of the most effective explanations of this principle was written by a business leader Napoleon Hill in the 1920’s.  His book “Think and Grow Rich” explains the principles I am discussing from a business and success model.

In today’s post, I would like to offer you a gift of his book “Think and Grow Rich.” This is a free Adobe PDF of the full book that you can download and ponder on.  Although this book is a business tome, I have found it to be a very spiritual guidebook to help you fulfill your Soul or Life purpose

Making your life as joyous and successful as possible is spiritual work.  You can gain wisdom and mastery of your mind through meditation or the tools of success offered by business leaders.  Where and how you receive these concepts is unimportant.  That you learn and, more importantly, use these principles to empower and enhance your life is a blessing.

I leave you today with this final affirmation quote by the thought leader Louise Hays:

As my mind can conceive of more good, the barriers and blocks dissolve. My life becomes full of little miracles popping up out of the blue.

The Golden Rule

The Golden Rule

Read The Golden Rule blog post by Genevieve Gerard

Not so long ago, the Golden Rule was seen as a guiding principle of right human relations.

It is a very simple basic way of determining behavior toward one another. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” is simple. And, it provides a litmus test of what is right and fair in a myriad of situations. Because we all share the experience of our humanity, this rule has guided behavior from schoolyards to the halls of Congress for hundreds of years.

This simple yet profound moral compass pervaded decisions of determining right from wrong in a way that affirmed our unity. Embedded within that quiet determination were principles of responsibility for our interactions that presumed an interrelationship of a community. Inherent in posing the question at a decision-making juncture were absolute values that pervaded our thoughts and determined our interactions with one another down to very mundane and uncomplicated actions.

The very posing of this rule in determining our behavior toward another presumes a valuing of the other on a level of importance that is equal to our importance in life. This very act of valuing the life and experience of another on a par with our own already begins to correct the underlying problem we see in so many of the issues in our modern society –issues that seem to be insurmountable.

As the power of thought and intention are recognized, we find ourselves able to shift our paradigm. We return to considering that this ancient basic rule has far-reaching consequences in how we interact with others and with the world. I was taught that this rule, this “Golden Rule,” comes to us from the Code of Hammurabi,” from time as ancient as that of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.

Is it possible that what was once kindergarten wisdom has been lost to our society, to both our danger and our detriment? Take five minutes to consider the world in which we currently find ourselves living, and the many little ways life would be vastly different if those in positions of power and authority put their decisions to this test.

Our Kids Understand The Golden Rule

Consider your family members, your neighbors, your coworkers, your employees, your customers; and think about how your life would be different and changed if, in those regular interactions, you made your decisions based on treating others as you want to be treated. Although the Golden Rule seems both straightforward and simplistic, if we as a society and a world would return to living this ancient wisdom it would have far-reaching consequences, righting much of what seems to be wrong in our modern times.

The principles of right action toward one another are often
simple to see but are not simple to do.
        ~ Genevieve Gerard

They require a valuing of others and a code of behavior that transcends much of what has in our modern times been elevated to acceptable behavior. Look at all of the damage that greed in business is doing to our world. The fact that there is even a business principle called planned obsolescence speaks to the ways our society has strayed from the logical results of living by the Golden Rule. The medical crisis, the housing crisis, the foreclosure crisis, the education crisis, and the unemployment crisis are just a few of our social problems that would be approached differently if the time-tested evaluations of the Golden Rule were applied.

The moral justifications that are moving away from this simple principle have created a slippery slope. Embracing this Rule once again will lay the groundwork for much of what must change in our society if we are going to thrive and survive into a future in which any of us wishes to live. History has demonstrated time and time again that selfishness and greed do not stop themselves. People must take a stand. They must choose. There is right action in the world and laws that help to maintain balance. This old rule, this Golden Rule, has within it the truth and wisdom to help us transform the world.

To bring the Golden Rule back into the collective thought-form of society has great power. In a civilized society, a principle of how it is right and more importantly how it is wrong to treat others is critical to maintain.

Since the Golden Rule has fallen away from being a standard of behavior that people demand and expect from one another, we have seen a rise in selfishness and greed that is both shameful and shocking. Somehow “looking out for number one” has developed into “it doesn’t matter what I do as long as I get what I want.”

This shift in our countries and our society’s moral compass has led to public servants serving their personal interests instead of considering the greater good of society as a whole. As I write these words, I remember as a child I was taught the quote below.

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil
is for good men to do nothing.
        ~ Edmund Burke

As truth has become subverted by “spin doctors” selfishness and greed have been dressed up and disguised as success. Somehow those who were entrusted as the guardians of our society have fallen prey to the lies that what is good for business is unfettered freedom, without consideration of how the practices of the business affect the society as a whole. No longer does Wall Street believe that “what is good for Main Street is good for Wall Street.” Somehow, there is the illusion being propagated that what is good for Wall Street is good for the world.

We can look around us and see the disastrous results of this kind of governance. People have lost faith and confidence that the government serves the greater good. Special interests and the interests of only a small percent (the often discussed top 1%) seem to have bought and paid for those who were elected and designed to be the guardians of the people.

As I consider a whole array of society’s dangers from the stripping of the planet of the rainforests to the science of global warming, I realize that the failure to teach this ancient moral code of the Golden Rule has left our world in a dangerous place.

You can look around you and see the disastrous results of our civilization having forgotten this simple moral test. I know that I could create a long list of dangers and problems that seem to stem from this failure to consider the consequences of destroying the nature that has sustained humanity since time immemorial.

Today, as I consider the many problems that cry out for a solution I ask that this ancient simple moral code is brought back into the collective consciousness and conscience.

I ask you to “do unto others as you would like them to do to and for you” in your daily life and interactions with others. I ask that you use the Golden Rule as a standard you demand and expect from those who lead our society.

I call upon every member of Congress, every member of the Senate, local and national, every judge, and every leader of business and industry, to consider their decisions based upon this simple principle of “The Golden Rule” and become agents of the transformation our world requires.

Namaste,

   Genevieve

Feeling Love on Valentine’s Day

Feeling Love on Valentine’s Day

Read Feeling Love on Valentine's Day by Genevieve Gerard

This article is part of my ongoing Series on Love.

All across the world on Valentine’s Day people celebrate love. They celebrate love in its many forms, but most of all they celebrate romantic and intimate love. They celebrate desire, passion and all of the fantasies that have been quietly nourished in the heart of what it means to love and to be loved.

This expression of Love was captured by the poet Robert Frost when he said:

Love is an irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired.
        – Robert Frost

I have often written about love, but as I review my body of work I note that I focus more on the essence of love than upon romantic or erotic love. Still, in the adventure of life, we are given the opportunity to learn about life, and that means to learn about love.

Romantic love, or as the ancient Greeks called it erotic love, laced with passion and desire is necessary for all that it teaches about life. There are life lessons about love that can best and perhaps only be learned through romantic love. It is to celebrate that passion, that joy, and that sense of wonder that Valentine’s Day is celebrated throughout the world.

Love doesn’t make the world go ’round.
Love is what makes the ride worthwhile.
        – Franklin P. Jones

During this Valentine’s Day experience, let romantic love, with its intensity of yearning for union with a beloved, teach you about all love in a powerful way that allows you to comprehend the meaning of Union of Souls. It is a demonstration of deeper truths that you might never discover if it were not for the passion and promise that falling in love delivers.

When you fall in love may be the very first time you have been able to reach beyond yourself to consider the needs and desires of another. Life, with its infinite wisdom, rewards you with joyful celebration when you make that important step. Passion, fulfillment, and satisfaction are granted as you learn how to merge your needs and desires in cooperation with another.

What would otherwise be a painful life lesson of sacrifice can become a beautiful expression of joy. To express love, to be generous, to strive to give your beloved what they wish and desire, all provides you with the opportunity to reach beyond the limitations of yourself. Not only is that step rewarded, but it can also be experienced, enjoyed and celebrated on all levels of your being.

At times, I have pondered the incredible miracle of romantic love and sex for the way that it transforms our life from aloneness and a sense of separation and alienation to a demonstration that we are not alone. Also, most amazing is that the fruit of having loved is the realization that we are aware of eternity. Ponder on this.

By loving we are transformed, changed and given the opportunity to be our true self, our best self.

Love is a force more formidable than any other. It is invisible – it cannot be seen or measured, yet it is powerful enough to transform you in a moment, and offer you more joy than any material possession could.
        – Barbara de Angelis

It is perhaps to help us learn and grow that God blessed us with the passion of erotic love, for love expands your heart with compassion and generosity.

Love is a force upon which you can anchor your life. It seems to grow miraculously and develop until you realize that through your love for another you have learned to not only love one another but also to love others. You have come to love life and with your appreciation of what love you have been given you see a world of wonder. You see the world where blessings can come to you when you least expect it.

Once you had loved and been truly loved nothing is ever the same as it was before you were loved. What is most strange and miraculous about this transforming experience is the way that it changes you and changes your life.

The “happily ever after” myths and, “happy endings” of Hollywood’s stories imply that the story goes on and on. And, certainly in life sometimes it does. The happily ever after is not what is most important. What is most important is that you have known what it is to love. Your life has been touched, changed and transformed by love.

The real miracle is that you have received and given love. Somehow, that warms you, nourishes and restores you in your darkest moments. It caresses and calms you and fills you with peace and joy. Having given love and having received the love you have been enfolded in a moment of eternity that is in some mysterious way beyond space and outside of time.

True love is less about the outcome and more about having opened your heart, your mind and your Soul to love. Having loved, you touched eternity. Having loved you created in this particular span of years something that is endless and timeless.

It is ironic to me that when I begin writing about romantic love and erotic love I find myself uncontrollably led to talk about love as the endless, eternal expression. Having noticed this, I find myself wondering and pondering upon how erotic and romantic love ends up being eternal love.

What I realized in thinking about and considering love is that sexual love and romantic love is a portal to love. Once you cross that portal, once you let yourself transcend the selfishness, the exclusive self-awareness that you are you, and I am I, into the unity and unification that loving brings everything changes.

And it changes not just for the moments of passion and sex, but it changes everything. And it is for that reason I call it a portal. It is a portal that it seems that once crossed cannot be re-entered. It is a great mystery in my life that having deeply loved someone; I have never stopped loving them.

That may be inconvenient, especially when life and circumstances converge so that you are no longer with the person you loved. And sadly in today’s world of relationships, that may be challenging.

Yet, with the understanding that the “it” is the lesson and experience of love, that makes the difference. It is the change you can undergo because of having loved that is important. Perhaps that grants a different perspective that helps you avoid the need and attachment that interferes with you experiencing love.

To love, by its very nature, requires transcending that need an attachment that so often disguises itself as romantic love. Loving another requires moving from loving them because you need them, to needing them because you love them. Ponder on this. That shift and transition are significant. However, it also puts you in direct conflict with the fact that loving someone makes you want what is best for him or her.

I recently saw the quote below that I would like you to ponder. Today, in celebration of love and dedication to love on Valentine’s Day, I share it with you.

Dear Human: You’ve got it all wrong. You didn’t come here to master unconditional love. That is where you came from and where you’ll return. You came here to learn personal love. Universal love. Messy love. Sweaty love. Crazy love. Broken love. Whole love. Infused with divinity. Lived through the grace of stumbling. Demonstrated through the beauty of… messing up. Often. You didn’t come here to be perfect. You already are. You came here to be gorgeously human. Flawed and fabulous. And then to rise again into remembering.

But unconditional love? Stop telling that story. Love, in truth, doesn’t need ANY other adjectives. It doesn’t require modifiers. It doesn’t require the condition of perfection. It only asks that you show up. And do your best. That you stay present and feel fully. That you shine and fly and laugh and cry and hurt and heal and fall and get back up and play and work and live and die as YOU. It’s enough. It’s Plenty.”
        – Courtney A. Walsh

As you go through your life’s adventure, I encourage you to open to and explore love in all of its beautiful and glorious forms. Open your heart and celebrate love as a celebration of life.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Namaste,

   Genevieve

Open Your Heart To Love

Open Your Heart To Love

Read Open Your Heart To Love blog post by Genevieve Gerard

This article is part of my ongoing Series on Love.

In this great university that we call life, there is perhaps no more important lesson we receive than learning to love.

Love manifests in our lives in so many different forms and circumstances that it is an ongoing opportunity to explore, experiment and express. If we open our heart and deeply consider what we have been learning in life that has given us the most joy and the most challenges, we can see that love is a predominant theme.

The great philosophers of old, most particularly Plato, defined love in three basic categories, that of Agape, how God loves us or how we are directed to love God; Philos, or love of friends and others; and the all important Eros, erotic or sexual love. And of course, the love of parents and children and family seems to be another important category.

Indeed, within these three or four very diverse categories that define love is enough lessons and life experiences to fuel millions of books, thousands of films and television scripts, and a seemingly endless stream of talk shows on media outlets around the world.

Life without love is like a tree without blossoms or fruit.
      ~ Khalil Gibran

There is perhaps no greater desire in the human heart than that of both giving and receiving love. Of course, as with so many dynamics of our all too human consciousness, we seem to feel that it is better to receive than to give. But if we explore the experience of love, dispassionately and deeply, we may find that we receive as much if not more love by giving rather than receiving it.

This may explain the teaching of Jesus when he said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Love, and lessons about Love are without question exalted in the life and teachings of the Christ.

When we think of the span of our years and focus on the times we have loved and the ways we have loved, we may realize that those times and events where we gave love unconditionally created such joy that we treasure the experience throughout our life. If we hold those experiences in our hearts and consider the power of those times to guide and transform our lives, we will begin to understand more of the dynamics of this great life lesson called love.

An honest review of our life will reveal to us that the times we have succeeded beyond our expectations in giving love have yielded rich dynamics to our experience of living. Likewise, those times when we have failed, on either side of the experience of love, to either give or receive, have resulted in profound heart-wrenching pain and sorrow.

Contained within the lessons of love is a microcosm of the many consciousness shifts we need to make to live a life of joy. We truly do need to be aware of the benefit of mastering this great lesson of life. Love is best learned in the act of letting ourselves give love and equally important, letting ourselves receive love. Ponder on this!

If we open our hearts to give love, we are immediately transported into the joy and blessings of love.
      ~ Genevieve Gerard

Loving is an experience that is immediately reinforced by expanding and enhancing our life experience.

Therefore, to learn about love we need only to give love as fully and completely as we can and to accept all that love offers to our life. It is profoundly simple, but strangely, it is often not easy.

Opening to love opens us to so much of what is the very best of life that making a commitment to love is a powerful portal to the gifts of awareness and joy. I encourage you to open your heart to love and embrace this lesson as a great adventurer and explorer of life.

Namaste,

Genevieve

Western horoscopes include 12 zodiacs, one for each month. However, there are 12 Chinese zodiacs as well, but the animal is for the entire year.

Happy New Year 2020 Year of the Rat

For the year 2020, the main zodiac element is metal, and the animal sign is Rat, and hence, 2020 will be the Year of the Metal Rat according to the Chinese zodiac.

People born in the year of the Rat include the years 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, and 2020. The years above are a rough guide; bear in mind that if you were born in January or February it may be slightly different as the new year moves between January 21 and February 20.

The Rat is the first of all Chinese zodiac animals. According to one myth, the Jade Emperor said the order would be decided by the order in which they arrived at his party. The rat tricked the ox into giving him a ride. Then, just as they arrived at the finish line, the rat jumped down and landed ahead of the ox, becoming first.

Rats symbolize wealth, intelligence, success and wisdom to the Chinese. In terms of the Yin and Yang theory, they are the yang and signify the beginning of a new day. They also represent the midnight hours and the Earthly Branch Zi.

In fact, Chinese astrology specialists suggest that 2020, the Year of the Metal Rat, is a good time to give birth as metal symbolizes stability and longevity. Those born in the Year of the Metal Rat tend to live a stable life and have the ability to turn unlucky events into fortune.

The Personality of the Rat

People born in the Year of the Rat are characterized as smart, resourceful and quick-witted. They have great imaginations and make sharp observations, with the ability to take advantage of several opportunities.

Strengths: Rats are clever, quick thinkers with a deep curiosity; intelligent, optimistic, successful, but content with living a quiet and peaceful life. The rat is adaptable and resourceful, has good intuition, and a strong imagination. They are kind and sensitive to other people’s emotions.

Weaknesses: Stubborn, timid, greedy, and don’t have much courage. They’re generally kind, but their weak communication skills can sometimes come across as rude or impolite, so they don’t make great leaders. On the financial side, they like saving their money and can be stingy. However, their love for hoarding will sometimes cause them to waste money on unnecessary things.

In Chinese culture, rats are a sign of wealth and surplus. Because of their reproduction rate, married couples also prayed to them for children.

Lucky Signs for the Rat

Lucky numbers for people born in the Year of the Rat are two, three, six, eight (avoid: 4, 5, 9) and their lucky colors are blue, green and gold (avoid: yellow, brown.) Their lucky flowers are lilies and African violets and their lucky directions are west, northwest, and southwest. Their closest western zodiac is Sagittarius.

How Long is the Chinese New Year?

The Little Year 2020

Preparations for the New Year (called the Little Year) last 8 days, beginning on January 17th, 2020 and go until Chinese New Year’s Eve.

Spring Festival 2020

As part of the celebrations, Chinese New Year officially begins on Saturday, January 25, 2020, this year with the Spring Festival which lasts 11 days through February 4th. People welcome spring and what it brings along: planting and harvests, new beginnings and fresh starts.

Lunar New Year

It is also called Lunar New Year because the Chinese New Year is based on a lunar year instead of a fixed number of days. Each month the moon comes back as a new moon on a different date. On average about 29.53 days. So, some months will be 29 days and others will be 30 days long. 12 lunar months will take 354.36 days, short of the 365 days in a solar year.

To fix this the Chinese calendar adds an extra month every third year. In the Chinese calendar, the beginning of the month is marked by the dark moon. The new year starts on a new moon. And because the Spring Festival goes according to the lunar calendar there is no set date every year for Chinese New Year.

The Lantern Festival 2020

After Chinese New Year at the first full moon of the (lunar) year is the famous Lantern Festival which preparations begin on the 5th and is held on February 8th this year. In ancient times, girls weren’t allowed to venture outside by themselves. But on this night, they were able to walk around, moon-gaze and look at the beautiful lanterns. Because of this, it’s also known as Valentine’s Day in China.

Overall the Chinese year will last from January 25, 2020, to February 11, 2021.

The lunar calendar is still important in China, even though it has officially moved to the Gregorian calendar like the rest of the world. All traditional holidays and days such as the Winter Solstice are celebrated.

What to Wear During Chinese New Year?

There is a Chinese tradition of wearing new clothes that goes all the way back to the Northern and Southern dynasties (420-589 AD). In the Song Dynasty (960-1279 AD), everyone would show off their new clothing as they visited friends on New Year’s Day. In the Republican period (1912-1949), beautiful new clothes were needed as the youth paid their respects to the elders. It’s a part of Spring Festival celebrations, just like the New Year’s Eve reunion dinner.

The Spring Festival is a time of change and new beginnings. Practically every activity during the Spring Festival has the purpose of removing the old and welcoming the new. Forget about the misfortunes and be ready for good luck. In addition, new clothes are auspicious and can protect you from evil spirits.

When buying clothes for Chinese New Year, go for red. This is the best color for the occasion. Stay away from black and white, as they are unlucky and negative during this time.

A Day for Praying to Gods

The Spring Festival was originally a ceremonial day to pray to gods for a good planting and harvest season. As an agrarian society, the harvest was everything. People also prayed to their ancestors, as they were treated as gods.

The Most Fireworks Are Set Off in the World on Chinese New Year’s Eve

According to the Chinese myth about Nian, firecrackers are supposed to scare off monsters and bad luck. So, people stay up on Chinese New Year’s Eve and set off firecrackers at midnight. In the morning, firecrackers are used again to welcome the new year and good luck.

Firecrackers aren’t the only thing that scared the monster away. Red is also an invaluable weapon and used in nearly all Chinese New Year decorations.

Things Not to Do During Chinese New Year Celebrations

The 11 days of the Spring Festival (January 25th through February 4, 2020) is a time of celebration. It’s to welcome the new year with a smile and let the fortune and happiness continue. At the same time, the Spring Festival involves somber ceremonies to wish for a good harvest.

Here are the top 10 taboos during the Chinese New Year to be aware of according to chinesenewyear.net. According to Chinese superstition, doing any of these on January 25th – the day Chinese New Year falls in 2020 – will lead to bad luck for the entire coming year. Follow these and fortune will smile on you.

  1. Do not say negative words
All words with negative connotations are forbidden! These include death, sick, empty, pain, ghost, poor, break, kill and more. You wouldn’t want to jinx yourself or bring those misfortunes onto you and your loved ones.
  2.

  3. Do not break ceramics or glass
Breaking things will break your connection to prosperity and fortune. If a plate or bowl is dropped, immediately wrap it with red paper while murmuring auspicious phrases. After the New Year, throw the wrapped up shards into a lake or river.
  4.

  5. Do not clean or sweep
Before the Spring Festival (January 25th), there is a day of cleaning. That is to sweep away the bad luck. But during the actual celebration, it becomes a taboo. Cleaning or throwing out garbage may sweep away good luck instead.

If you must, make sure to start at the outer edge of a room and sweep inwards. Bag up any garbage and throw it away after the 5th day. Similarly, you shouldn’t take a shower on Chinese New Year’s Day.
  6.

  7. Do not use scissors, knives or other sharp objects
Sharp objects, in general, will cut your stream of wealth and success. This is why 99% of Chinese hair salons are closed during the holidays. Haircutting is taboo and forbidden until Lunar February 2, when all festivities are over.
  8.

  9. Do not visit the wife’s family
Traditionally, multiple generations live together. The bride moves into the groom’s home after marriage. And, of course, she will celebrate Chinese New Year with her in-laws. Returning to her parents on New Year’s Day means that there are marriage problems and may also bring bad luck to the entire family. The couple should visit the wife’s family on the 2nd day. They’d bring their children, as well as a modest gift (because it’s the thought that counts).
  10.

  11. Do not demand debt repayment
This custom is a show of understanding. It allows everyone a chance to celebrate without worry. If you knock on someone’s door, demanding repayment, you’ll bring bad luck to both parties. However, it’s fair game after the 5th day. Borrowing money during the Spring Festival is also taboo. You could end up having to borrow the entire year. It is better to pay off all of your debts before the new lunar year.
  12.

  13. Avoid fighting and crying
Unless there is a special circumstance, try not to cry. But if a child cries, do not reprimand them. All issues should be solved peacefully. In the past, neighbors would come over to play peacemaker for any arguments that occurred. This is all to ensure a smooth path in the new year.
  14.

  15. Avoid taking medicine
Try not to take medicine during the Spring Festival to avoid being sick the entire year. Of course, if you are chronically ill or contract a sudden serious disease, immediate health should still come first.

Some related taboos: Don’t visit the doctor; Don’t perform/undergo surgery; Don’t get shots.

  16.

  17. Do not give New Year blessings to someone still in bed
You are supposed to give New Year blessings. But let the recipient get up from bed first. Otherwise, they’ll be bed-ridden for the entire year. You also shouldn’t tell someone to wake up. You don’t want them to be rushed around and bossed around for the year. Take advantage of this and sleep in!
  18.

  19. Chinese gift-giving taboos
It was mentioned above that you should bring gifts when paying visits. It’s the thought that counts, but some gifts are forbidden. Clocks are the worst gifts. Gifting clocks is a homophone of paying one’s last respects. Splitting pears is also a homophone of separation.

For the Spring Festival, these rules may seem excessive. Especially when you add in the cultural norms, customs, and manners. But like a parent would say, they are all for your own good. Formed over thousands of years, these taboos embody the beliefs, wishes, and worries of the Chinese people.

Who should be on their guard this year?

According to Chinese astrology, the year of your birth sign is believed to be one of the most unlucky years of your life. It is thought that people in their zodiac year offend Tai Sui, the God of Age, and incur his curse.

Famous names who should be wary this year include Jeremy Clarkson (1960) and Idris Elba (1972), Al Gore and Richard Simmons (1948), as well as the Duke of Sussex, Katy Perry, and Scarlett Johansson (all born in 1984).

Lewis Capaldi (1996) was also born in the Year of the Rat, plus Gary Lineker and Jonathan Ross (both born in 1960).

Also born in the year of the rat were William Shakespeare, T. S. Elliot, and George Washington.

Joy Is The Antidote To Fear

Joy Is The Antidote To Fear

Read Joy is the Antidote to Fear by Genevieve Gerard

Transcending, transmuting and releasing fear is one of the most powerful and life-transforming steps you can take on your spiritual journey.

In the Ageless Wisdom, releasing fear is a step associated with the second initiation.  As such, there is a myriad of life lessons that accompany learning mastery over your fear.

To overcome your fears is a challenge for everyone.

Fear: False Evidence Appearing Real
       – Unknown

Ultimately learning to transmute and transcend your fears cannot be done by your personality and your personal will alone.  For that reason to transform your fears becomes spiritual work

Fear is so very deep, archetypal and integral to the human experience that freeing yourself of fear is such a significant step in your spiritual evolution because to accomplish this you must call upon the strength, the power and the wisdom of your Soul.

Find a place inside where there’s joy,
and the joy will burn out the pain.
        – Joseph Campbell

As you transform your life by transcending your fears, everything changes.  Each victory you make and each step that you take is profound and significant.

It is best to harness the power of your mind and practice the powerful principle that “energy follows thought” by using a technique that I call the detached observer.

To use the detached observer technique, I recommend that you pay attention to the random thoughts of your mind.  Realize that these thoughts are what you are sending out on an almost constant stream as positive or negative instructions to activate the “Law of Attraction” in your role of co-creator of your life.

As you use the “detached observer technique” I have over the years recommended that you catch yourself engaging in “stinking thinking” as Zig Ziegler use to call it.  Once you have noted a fearful thought, just stop and restate it into a positive thought.  All it takes is to use the wisdom and insight of your Higher Self to reframe the thought and revise it, thus activating your personal will to manifest the life you desire. Ponder on this technique!

Reviewing, reframing and restating your thought is a very powerful technique that can empower you to transform your life.

If you have ever used this method, or if you choose to use it right now, I am sure that you will find buried in your previously unconscious “mind chatter” a myriad of fears you can address.

As you explore your preconscious thoughts, you may find that fears are often a component of your content.

Fear is often embedded in your thoughts of worry, which I call “praying for what you don’t want.”

Take just one minute right now to center quietly in yourself and listen from the role of the detached observer to the content of your mind chatter with the critical awareness of how much your fears are reflected in your thoughts.

I Am Feeling Free Meditation MP3 by Genevieve Gerard

Amazing isn’t it?  Fear can be a large part of your life.

The transmuting and releasing of your fears is such a significant part of your spiritual journey that of all my published guided meditations I have devoted not just one, but multiple meditations to that goal, (I Am Feeling Free and Feeling Free.)

What is clear to me is that because fear is so deeply rooted in the human experience it is only by empowering the personality with the power of your Higher Self (your Soul) are you able to release your fears.

The personality can be engaged by seeking more enlightened awareness as you call upon the wisdom, the will and the power of your Soul (Higher Self or Higher Power) to transcend your fears.  By so doing, you are demonstrating a powerful spiritual lesson.  You are created as a spiritual being (a Soul) to work in harmony, and unity with a material being that directs, body, mind, and emotions with your personality.

In this statement above, there is both great truth but also a secret for managing your life.  Ponder of this.

There is no higher purpose to meditation than to become aware of the power and magnificence of your Soul.
         – Genevieve Gerard

To use this higher power and this majesty to be and become all that you are meant to be and live a life of joyful abundance is the reward of enlightened awareness.  It is the inherent secret ingredient in all of the ways to live in joy.

Joy spontaneously arises when you call upon your Soul and activate it as an integral part of the choices you make in your life.

That joy is the antidote to fear came to me recently while coaching someone in the release of his or her fears.  It is such a significant thought and principle that I have meditated upon it for several days now.

As I pondered upon opening my heart and my mind to the touch of my Soul and experienced the rush of joy that accompanied it, I realized simultaneously that in doing so, there was no space for fear.

Miraculously, fear and joy are antithetical to one another. That led me to consider how I can use joy to conquer fear.

Lately, in my meditations, I have been experiencing the blessing, joy, and grace of an angelic presence that I call The Angel of Perpetual Joy She is an angelic being who has had a profound benefit in my daily life.  In fact, it was the transformations her presence has created in my life that stimulated the writing of my recent article, “When Angels Come to Earth.”  As I stated in that article, Angels often choose to come to earth for the purpose of helping humanity.

In my meditations, I gained the insight that joy dispels fear.  It is important that you understand that Angels have a role of assistance and support.  The Angel of Perpetual Joy then went on to reveal in telepathic communion that Angels communicate through their union with your Soul to provide your personality a special blessing that I was charged to offer to you.

She, as an Angelic Presence will respond to your invocation by her presence to help you transcend and overcome your fears.  Therefore, with both her direction and blessing I encourage you to call upon her presence in your prayers and meditations to let joy serve as the antidote to your fears.

I invite you to invoke her presence in your life; I published in my previous article, “When Angeles Come to Earth” a meditation you can use and customize that is called,A Meditation on Angelic Presence.”

You can use this meditation to request her blessing of joy and her presence to transmute, transform and abolish your life of fears.

As you meditate upon her presence, I invite you to invoke and call upon the power and the presence of your Soul.

I believe connecting with your Soul is always accompanied by a rush of Love and Joy.  However, in my experience after calling upon “The Angel of Perpetual Joy” and meditating with her, the presence of my Soul was also magnified and expanded.  Such is the gift of angelic dedication to a particular purpose in life.

Because transcending and transmuting fear can be such an important part of your spiritual journey, I encourage you to use both the reframing technique of the detached observer and take advantage of the blessings of angelic presence regularly in your meditations.

I invite you to use Joy as an antidote to your fears.

Namaste,

Genevieve

Act As If

Read Acting As If blog by Genevieve Gerard

Act As If . . .

Within the teachings of the Ageless Wisdom is a very powerful tool you can use to transform your life into the life you desire.

It is Acting As If what you want already is.

Acting As If uses and combines many of the laws and universal principles of which I have previously written. Energy Follows Thought and the Law Of Attraction are two of the most important that become activated when you Act As If.

Acting As If is a great way to bring into your life the events and circumstances that you want and need.

The creative power of the mind is impressive when activated. To use that creative force to fashion the life of your dreams is what the power of positive thinking and positive action is all about.

A great many subtle factors go into being successful with any of these techniques. Perhaps one of the most significant things to realize is that the creative potential of the mind works when you are sending the thought signals of what you want. However, it also can work when you have fears and worries.

The creative power of the mind does not stop to evaluate the content of the directions it is receiving. That is up to you. You can choose to bring into your life what you desire (both good or bad) at any moment in time.

The best way to achieve your outcome is to act as if you have already reached it – live your dreams now and let reality catch up.”
      – Roger Ellerton

At times it may require releasing your fears and acting on faith so that you do not bring those fears into reality. What is wonderful is that you can choose not to be limited by your fears.

Acting As If is a dynamic technique to keep the creative aspect of your mind focused on manifesting what you desire. When you Act As If what you want and need is already happening you help focus your creative mind. The attention to what it takes to Act As If clarifies your intention and colors in your thoughts with valuable details.

Clarifying what you are invoking when activating the Law of Attraction is often an effective mechanism. Many have found creating a vision board or a mind map to be helpful. The more details you can envision and more in tune with the feelings you want to experience once you have manifested what you need, the easier it is to keep your mind focused on the outcome you desire. Ultimately, you still have to take action on those thoughts to create your new reality.

I was speaking to a coaching client of mine recently whose life experiences just demonstrated this. My client had recently transcended her fear sufficiently to let herself be open to the abundance of purchasing a new car. This was a big step for her. Within days of making the purchase and living in gratitude, her employer, who had originally only had contract work available, came to her and offered her a permanent position that had just unexpectedly become available. Her act of faith was rewarded by what she needed coming to her almost instantly.

To efficiently Act As If, it is important to envision what you want to manifest and become, using all of your senses. So, to help you manifest the life of your dreams, today I am suggesting a smorgasbord of techniques you can use to empower Acting As If.

  1. Create a Mind Map or Vision Board to use when you are Acting As If. I suggest that you fill in as much detail of how your life will be when the goal or dream you desire has manifested. This detail will serve as a guide to your behavior when you are Acting As If.
  2. Declare your intention by identifying an “I Am” statement. Think about the identity you are creating. As an example, “I am a successful _________,” “I am competent in _________,” “I Am an effective __________.” In this use of an “I Am” statement you are focusing on your role in demonstrating your goal.
  3. Whenever you “catch yourself” worrying, being fearful, or having any doubts about manifesting your needs and desires, stop and focus your thoughts on what you are striving to create and release the fears. This clearing of the negative self-talk is the key to making this technique work. In the link below, I offer a powerful 10-minute “I Am Feeling Freemeditation that can help you learn how to calm strong emotions and transmute fears and doubts.
I Am Feeling Free Meditation Download by Genevieve

Now, in each moment of the day, in what you do and how you respond to every situation and circumstance that presents itself to you, Act As If what you desire and need is already a reality.

William James altering their attitudes of mind quote

Remember that consistency and repetition add power to this technique. This is a state of mind, you must act and live your life As If you already have accomplished your goal and feel what it would feel like when you did.

What you believe and present to the world as a fact that you know and believe in your being, becomes a reality. Then, the more you can manifest what you desire and need, the more real it becomes.

Act as if you are poised and confident. Act as if you already have it!

Many layers go into the creation of your identity and your reality. This technique of Acting As If will empower you to be and become all that you are meant to be.

Using meditation and affirmations are also helpful. Confirming that what you are focusing upon is in alignment with your life purpose or your Soul purpose eases the way. This is your life and your thoughts, and your actions are what determine what your life will be. Today, you are exactly where you believe you should be. Ponder on this!

You have unlimited choices and before you are unlimited possibilities.
      – Genevieve Gerard

It is never too late to live your dreams. Whatever mistakes you may have made in the past are now over. When you relegate them to the past, you free yourself from having to repeat them. What is important is to live in the present moment.

Letting go of what has been and is now past is important in opening your life to the potential that is available in the future that has not yet been created.

It is to create that positive future and to fulfill the life of your dreams where the As If technique is most valuable. It immediately opens new doors and new opportunities.

It is wise to clear away the residuals of your past as soon as possible, so the slate is as clean as you can make it. One of the most dynamic and freeing ways you can transform your life is by forgiveness. Forgiving someone of their transgression against you frees you from being trapped in the past. It also releases the anger, the hurt and the sense of betrayal that can keep you in a victim role.

Self-forgiveness is also an important piece of becoming free to accept and manifest your new life. Often forgiving yourself is significant in freeing your life to move forward because it is common to be angry at yourself for letting the person you need to forgive do you wrong.

Most of the time, you failed to protect yourself or assert yourself. It is that you need to forgive. When the forgiveness has been accomplished, your life is more open to creating the reality you have chosen. The obstacles that you were holding onto are now swept away.

I encourage you to use this tool today to create the life that you want.

Your life is before you waiting to be manifested and enjoyed. Consider what you desire and begin living it today. Today is, after all, the first day of the rest of your life; celebrate it.

Namaste,

Genevieve

Does Your Soul Sing To You

Does Your Soul Sing To You?

Read Does Your Soul Sing To You article by Genevieve Gerard

Within you is a song that is unique to you.  It is the song of your Soul.

The Song of the Soul is the voice with which you join in the celestial music that is known as the heavenly hosts.  It is a pulsing thrum that joins to create what is known as the music of the spheres.  It is probably not a song you hear or are aware of as you rush through your daily life.

The Song of Your Soul is found only within the sound of silence, the silence that is within all sound.

I would invite you to open your life and your inner sense to this voice as a meditative experience to help you increase your awareness of the beauty and magnificence of your Soul.  This meditative experience is an experiment in consciousness.  As with all meditative experiences your experience is unique to you and is guided by the wisdom of your Soul to offer you what you need at this exact moment in time and what can be of benefit to you right here and right NOW.

At times, and I must admit that they are rare and precious times; in deep meditation I have heard the music of the spheres.  In those singular and treasured times, I have felt transported to the angelic realm.  I have been so filled with love that it overflows my mind and my heart as I am infused with the love of my Soul.

I have never written about these peak meditative experiences before.  I have not spoken of them often even among my spiritual meditation group.  They are moments of bliss and communion with the Divine that I doubt I can even find the perfect words to express.

So, when in my morning meditation I felt directed to write about one of these extraordinary moments I immediately found my “mind chatter” limiting me.  I found myself doubting that I could do what I felt I was being guided to do.  Then, when I felt directed to create a meditation to open you and others to this extraordinary experience my mind and my personality began to argue that 1.) It couldn’t be done.  2.)  I was both incapable and more significantly not worthy to even try to do it.

My very human experience of denying the directing of my Soul led me to consider how often my “mind chatter” and insecurities stop me from being who I am meant to be, or doing what I am directed to do.  Sadly, I must admit much more often than I would like it to be.

No matter how often I surrender my personal Will to Divine Will and I do it very often, not only each day but frequently throughout the day; I am still limited by my beliefs.  And, no matter how often I dedicate myself to the Divine work and purpose, I know that what I give and what I offer falls short of the magnificence of my Soul with which I regularly align in my meditations.  This is the conflict between the Soul and the personality.

Here I sit in my morning meditations and writing time feeling directed to create something to help others touch what I have only been able to touch in the exalted peak moments of my meditations.  I have to trust that although my efforts will fall short of perfection, it is important to make my very best effort.

How I Try To Listen To the Song of My Soul

First, to try to write something that can provide a portal to this transcendent experience I find that I must, as I recommend to you each time I create a guided meditation, calm my mindThen I must open my heart.  As I strive to do this, I am filled with the Love that I have for you.

Please ponder on these words as I share with you the blessing and the beauty of the Touch of your Soul that this meditative experience can provide you.  I have faith and trust that your Soul will direct and guide you to experience what is right for you.

Then in full faith, with trust and confidence that my Soul has wisdom beyond my mind, I invite the Light of my Soul to guide me.

The words of one of my favorite mantras comes to me and with intention I invoke:

May the energy of the divine self inspire me
and the light of the soul direct.

May I be led from darkness to light,
from the unreal to the real,
from death to immortality.
     – Djwhal Khul (Tibetan master)

With that openness and invitation to the Light, I shall strive to quiet the criticism and judgements of my mind chatter.  I attempt to capture for you the direction of my Soul to create a guided meditative experience to help you open to the Touch of your Soul so that you too may hear the song of your Soul.

Within my mind’s chatter is an understanding that my best efforts as a human being will fall short of the glory of the Soul in its realm as it joins with the angels and the heavenly hosts.  Still, I will dip my pen in heaven and write as best I can to create this for youAfter that, you will have to rely on the wisdom of your Soul to guide you.

What it will reveal and what you will experience is uniquely for you.  As I frequently advise before you begin any meditation where you consciously open to and invite Soul contact, I recommend that you have a journal beside you to record the impressions, images and promptings of your Soul.

Although you may be propelled by the business and busyness of life, with your awareness focused on your body, emotions, mind and your personality’s needs and desires; each and every one of us is endowed with a Soul, that is a spark of Divine Light and is our eternal essence.

Listen To the Song of My Soul Meditation

Take a minute now and sit with your spine aligned and your feet firmly on the floor as you open your whole being to this moment of time.  Let all that has come before in your life fade away as you come into the eternity of the now.

Imagine the Light of your Soul as a radiating Light three to six feet above your head.

The Light of the Soul Descends
Soul Light Descending

Then visualize that Golden Light descending into your field of energy (your aura) into the top of your head, down into your heart filling your heart with Love.

To enter into this meditative experience you must hear, not with you physical ears but with your Soul, a song of the sounds that are the essence of all sound that is found only in the silence. Quiet yourself and connect to the part of you that is One with that Divine spark, your Soul.

A Mantra that you can use to empower you to connect with and identify with your Soul is:

I am the Soul.

I am infused with the Light of my Soul.

Grace fills me with Diving Love.

As Soul, I am joined and fused with the heart of God.

As Soul, I am empowered by the Christ to
be of service to do His work in the world.

To do God’s work aligned with God’s Will,
I surrender my little will.

With gratitude and joy,
I open my heart and my mind to the directing of my Soul.

       – Genevieve Gerard

Now, having identified with and aligned with your Soul, sit quietly with your mind as calm as you can bring it to be, open your heart to the outpouring grace of Divine Love.  Invite again the Light of your Soul, confident of your Oneness with that Light.

This is a sacred moment.  In the peace of this moment and the Presence of your Soul, sit in the silence and listen to the Song of your Soul.

Embrace whatever experience has been granted to you with gratitude.  Let whatever blessings and insights that come to you grow without judgement.

Record whatever guidance and impressions linger from this experience in your journal.

Let you heart be filled with the Love of your Soul and your mind be filled with greater understanding and insight.

Before you move back into the events of your day, pause to express your gratitude for the blessings you have received.

Namaste,

Genevieve

To Love Truly Has the Power to Heal

To Love Truly Has the Power to Heal

Read "To Love Truly Has the Power to Heal" by Genevieve Gerard

This article is part of my ongoing Series on Love.

Love has the power to heal and transform the most wounded life.

It is in loving that we are most connected to the Divine.

It is in loving that illusion can fall from your eyes and truth can be revealed.

There are of course many different ways that love is felt and expressed. However, love is more than a feeling. This is part of what the adventure through life is undertaken to reveal.

Learning To Love

Learning to love and fully comprehending what it is to love is one of the most important and most profound lessons of life.

It is within this experience of love that the deepest healing takes place. It is within the lessons of love that the full richness of life is expressed and experienced.

Love comes in many different expressions and manifestations, and each and every one of them can be a challenge.

You might think that it is easiest to love yourself, yet for many people that is the most challenging of all. You might wonder why it is so hard to love yourself, but who knows more than you how many times and how many ways you have failed to love another. Who knows better than you, all of the selfish and self-serving things you do and more significantly the selfish and self-serving thoughts and judgments that run through your mind.

Luckily, it is in learning to love yourself that you can truly open your heart, your mind, and your Soul to the transformative power of the true essence of Love.

Each time you love in the many different ways that you can manifest love; you are opening and expanding the portal to the Divine. We are told that God is Love and there is no greater truth. The more we can demonstrate love, the more we are joining with God in the Oneness and unity of humanity.

One of the amazing miracles of Love is that Love is merged and blended with both forgiveness and grace. Love also activates compassion and with compassion most often comes understanding. And because Love unites us with the Divine, the more you love, the easier you find it to forgive. True Love cascades with grace and transforms your life.

Learning to Love is one of the most important experiences in this life that is filled to overflowing with lessons.

Because you are learning, any attempt you make to love benefits you. You don’t have to be perfect. However much you are able to give love is always a blessing. Romantic love is often the stimulus that opens you to the experience of loving, much like priming a pump. While romantic love is the doorway many use to enter into love, to truly love is so much more since it involves your whole being, body and mind, heart and Soul. Loving truly is more. It involves looking beyond your needs. It involves expanding your awareness of needs beyond your own, to the greatest good, perhaps of others.

One of the amazing parts of love is that it connects you to the spark of the Divine that resides in your Soul. When you love you are connected with what is eternal in your life. When you love you grow in understanding others. You become aware of a higher-level unity and brotherhood/sisterhood that bonds you with others in a way that enhances all of your life experiences.

We are all told in the bible to, “Make love your aim” 1: Corinthians 13. We are told that of all the gifts of a spiritual life, “the greatest of these is love.”

You don’t need to criticize yourself or judge yourself or others for the inability or failures you may experience along the path of life in learning to love. Whatever progress you make or understanding you achieve about what it means to love is a step toward more enlightened awareness. In each step you take, or revelation you are granted, there is an automatic, spontaneous reinforcement because you experience more joy and more peace in your life.

Learning to love is its own reward. That is a miracle. When I consider the amazing grace and wisdom of that design, by the Divine, I cannot help but be filled with awe. I cannot help but feel loved by God and in that great and amazing grace realize that it is Love that I am born to share and disperse.

As love is given to me freely,
I am guided to give love freely.
        – Genevieve Gerard

Furthermore, the wonderful and amazing blessing of giving Love is that by giving I also receive. This is a mystery of loving and one of the great blessings of loving. Each time that I love I am joined with God, whose nature and very essence is love. I cannot help but rejoice.

I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts,
there can be no more hurt, only more love.
        – Mother Teresa

Love is the life lesson that seems riddled with paradox because it is so very powerful and so very transformative. I know very well in my life how many times I have failed to truly love, even when I have professed love and strived to love. Our human nature, our personal desires, and needs are such that loving does not always come easy. Romance, sexual desire, and selfishness all confuse this.

Be gentle with yourself. Love is the nature of God. You are not God. You are a human being. Each time you love, you brush up to the majesty and glory of God and are blessed and transformed in your very human life.

The more you open your heart and your mind to Love, the more you touch the divine breath of love that comes from your Soul, and the more your life reflects joy.

Affirmations and Reflections on Love
– A meditation focused on Love

I suggest you have a journal with you so you can record and remember any thoughts or impressions you receive in this meditation.

As you begin, calm your mind, open your heart, invite the Light.

This short meditation will combine both affirmations and reflections. The affirmation allows you to activate your will, your intention and your desire.

The reflection then reveals what you are learning about love.

Before you begin, take a minute to come into the present and presence of you higher awareness, your Soul, where you know what love is. Put the past behind you. Breathe deeply as you relax into this moment in time. Let your awareness be free to experience the guidance of what it means to love truly and freely.

Then calm your mind, open your heart and invite the Light.

Then Say to yourself:

I am created by Love to learn how to Love.
[Pause, reflect, and record your impressions.]

With my mind calm and my heart opened, Divine Love fills me.
[Pause, reflect, and record your impressions.]

Divine Love heals me and brings me closer to my Soul.
[Pause, reflect, and record your impressions.]

I am grateful and blessed by the touch of my Soul
and the touch of God’s love that I have received today.
[Pause, reflect, and record your impressions.]

The Love that flows to me flows through me to the world.
[Pause, reflect, and record your impressions.]

Ponder on the words of this meditation.

Namaste,

   Genevieve

Invoking Healing Miracles

Invoking Healing Miracles Today

Read the Invoking Healing Miracles article by Genevieve Gerard

Pondering how miracles happen and considering the next subject for my ongoing series on Healing, I realize that healing, either for oneself or a loved one, is the most common reason a miracle is requested.

The synchronicity of this thought motivates and focuses my meditations to explore creating healing miracles.

Understanding the dynamics of what must take place to create a true life-transforming healing miracle is important because within that dynamic we see without any hesitation the most practical and profound aspect of spirituality.  A miracle, especially a miraculous healing experience, is where the rubber meets the road in the dual aspect of being both a human being and a spiritual being.

You Can Be a Co-Creator in Your Life

Miracles can teach and demonstrate to us that as you live your life, you are also the co-creator of your life.  This is one of the great mysteries of life.  It is a concept that is both amazingly empowering and awesomely threatening.

The part of this that is uncomfortable is the responsibility that comes with this understanding.  In the process of becoming a co-creator in your life adventure, thousands of questions may come to mind.  Your mind chatter may begin to argue and reject the concept that you would create any of the problems and challenges that you face.

It is, of course, a concept that may not be easy to grasp.  You might reject the idea completely because it seems unfathomable that you would create problems for yourself and most certainly illness and suffering.  It is within this mysterious concept about the nature of reality that the real power of miracles exists.

It is certainly easier to go through life believing yourself to be a victim of happenstance.  You can blame others for anything bad that happens to you, or you can even ultimately blame God, as many do.  You can even blame luck or karma, placing responsibility on anybody or anything but yourself.  Yet to be and become the powerful, amazing, being you were created to be when God chose to create humankind in His image, this concept deserves consideration.

If you are a person of faith, you may bruise God’s ears with your prayers and petitions for what you think you want or need.  You may call upon the angels and the whole congregation of saints to intercede on your behalf.  Yet with all of this, you are still not stepping into the role of a child of God who is the Son of Man.  It is in this mysterious, miraculous concept of co-creating with God that you are empowered beyond your current understanding.

Being in this co-creator role is being all that you were created to become as a partner with God in the experience of living.  It is in this co-creator concept that Jesus taught, when after his great healing miracles he proclaimed, “I and the Father are One.”  The absolute bliss that is inherent in that affirmation opens you to a new understanding of miracles. Ponder on this!

To accept that you are both able to influence your life and by extension, the life of others, requires some deeper openness and understanding of both the miracle of life and how you can be aligned with the Divine and an instrument for Divine blessings to others.

Universal Laws & Principals

The role of claiming your co-creator part with the Creator requires taking on a level of responsibility that may be beyond what you are willing to accept. Nevertheless, it is in that responsibility that you can gain a deeper understanding of the Laws of the Universe, transform your life and empower the service you can be to your fellow man.

Now, what is fascinating, and in relationship to the concept of miracles and healing, is to realize that there are universal laws and principles in place, and these are completely impersonal.  You can use them or deny them.  They are at work both when consciously used and equally at work when you are completely unconscious of them.  It seems that the more you can work with the Laws of the Universe consciously in your life, the more you are coming into the fullness of what you were created to be.

In a miracle, Universal Laws are not circumvented but rather exalted.  Amazingly, the desire for miracles and the need for healing in life motivate people to come to a greater understanding of these laws and principles.  Equally amazing is that when you work with and wield these laws and principles consciously, miraculous things happen.

Healing Miracles

I think that it is around the issue of healing miracles that the biggest dichotomy of what is meant by being a co-creator is faced.  As perhaps the greatest healer of our time, “John of God” always pointed out, “It is God that heals, not me.”  I think any successful healer, physician or energetic healer would acknowledge that a true statement.

I know in my life when I have been blessed to be a part of a miracle, I have been overwhelmed with awe and gratitude to have even been allowed to be a part of a miracle.  The energy that has flowed through me is so far beyond what I can usually touch and experience that I am immediately humbled.  The grace that flows is beyond my understanding and most certainly my abilities.

It is crystal clear that like John of God I can say without any doubt in full acceptance, it is God that heals.  The gift and grace that I have been granted are to have been a part of the event.  It is in the absolute bliss of having come to that place of utter surrender of personal will and attachment that you can blend into the activation of Divine Will, and a miracle can occur.

Prayer

Now you might say, “if this is true then all that I need to do is pray for healing.”  Certainly, prayer is an effective way to request a miracle.  But to think that prayer does not involve activating and utilizing the very principles and Universal laws that empower a miracle is looking at prayer in a very simplistic way and ignoring the powerful dynamics that are activated with prayer.

Prayer works within the universal laws and principles that are causative factors in the creation of miracles.  The fact that you don’t have to understand those laws in order to pray does not mean that prayer works outside of the laws, but rather as fulfillment and manifestation of them.  For many to pray is easier.  But it would be incorrect to ignore the dynamic power of the tools and techniques utilized in prayer.

Prayer works within the universal laws and healing miracles work within universal laws.  There is no need to go outside of laws to manifest healing miracles but rather to look deeper at the way the word works to manifest miracles.

Miracles do not, in fact, break the laws of nature.
      – C. S. Lewis

Bringing your awareness into the mechanics of both miracles and prayer is a way to see the many ways that you can collaborate with God and co-create with God in your life.

Those who actively practice the Law of Attraction in their life often see a miraculous transformation in their material circumstances and the material world.  Countless miracle tales demonstrate the universal laws as people learn that “energy follows thought.”  This is a real dynamic in the mystery of miracles and the magic of being a co-creator in your life.

Using the power of the invocation of energies that prayer employs, or using the dynamic that energy follows thought, are not different.  Consciously working with invocation and intention creates miracles and it could be said that the miraculous property of prayer is in the act of invocation and intention.

The Use of Intention and Invocation

The use of intention and invocation are an active part of the dynamic of our being created in the image of God, as a Son of God.  This duality of our human nature is our greatest mystery and our biggest blessing.  It is in wielding that dual nature that we are empowered to “do greater things than I have done” as promised and foretold by Jesus (John 14:12.)

It is in studying and considering the miracles of Jesus that we see a demonstration of the miraculous healing power that is available from the dual consciousness of being in this co-creator role with God.  Jesus even said regarding his miracles, “Greater things than I have done you shall do.”  It was in his energetic merging with the Father that Jesus demonstrated the power and importance of the union with God by going to the Father.

Because He did that, he empowered all of humankind to follow his path.  It is in the desire to help and heal with miracles that you can find the motivation to surrender your personal Will to Divine Will.  Even if you can yield sufficiently to that Oneness with the Father for only a second of time, that second is held in eternity in the eternal NOW and that act is so very amazingly powerful and profound that a miracle happens.

Oneness with a Higher Power

If you talk to those healers who have participated in healing miracles, the transforming bliss and astounding joy of that moment is what they remember most. And although they may not have been able to sustain that awareness of Oneness with the Father that marked the miracle, it is both affirming and confirming that that pathway exists.

In the energetic release that happens with a miracle, the illusion is cleared and at that moment, “The Son of God creates to bring him joy, sharing the Father’s purpose in his own creation, that his joy be increased and God’s along with his.A Course on Miracles page 489”

It seems appropriate when you consider the role you are striving to play to facilitate a miracle, that you are as God created you.  You are one with him, and He is one with you.  That great miracle of your creation and your oneness with the Father is the basis of all of your abilities to live as a co-creator with God.

When you can sufficiently surrender your personal will to Divine Will, you will be blessed to help facilitate and participate in miracles.
     – Genevieve Gerard

Before this article concludes, I think it is important to delve deeper into the role of prayer in miracles, for prayer serves as the portal to aligning your personal will with God’s Will.  Prayer can help you reach the place where you can open your mind, your heart and your Soul to the Oneness with the Father.

And certainly when the bliss of that union has been touched, and you know to the depth of your Soul that a miracle has happened prayers are the best way to express your overwhelming gratitude for the blessing you have received in healing another.

In the afterglow of a healing miracle, I have found that the expression of joy is spontaneous as is the gratitude of having been blessed with the opportunity to be a part of a Healing Miracle.

What is learned through participating in a healing miracle can fuel your understanding in profound and life-enhancing ways that you can ponder in your meditations and incorporate into your spiritual life.

A Meditation on Merging With Your Soul

Coming into a state of Oneness with the Divine and with Divine Will (the Father aspect of God,) while beyond what you (or I) can typically accomplish from our current awareness, is an exercise of being in Soul consciousness and completely surrendering. What you need to do is open yourself as much as you can to the conscious awareness of your Soul, with the expressed desire and intention to as fully as you can, open to the presence of your Soul in an attitude of complete surrender.

This can be incorporated into an act of healing and service to another.  In fact, the intention to create miraculous healing for another helps you bring your consciousness to the highest place you can experience.  Then, surrendering your personal will to Divine Will, while aligning as fully as you are able with your Soul, you can open to the touch of your Soul.

Mantras may help with this as you hold your intention to calm your mind and fully open your heart as you invite the light.  In the related posts below, I provide links to articles and meditations to help you open to the touch of your Soul while you are in an aspect of surrender to your Divine Will.

Now is a time when the guidance of your Soul is required, and I cannot presume to direct or guide you on the surface beyond the physical words I write today.  Know that when you open energetically to your Soul in surrender with intention, you enter what may be uncharted territory for you and what I am sharing is as much as I can share at this time.  Ultimately, any meditation you create for yourself should be under the protection and direction of your Soul. Whatever revelations or realizations you will have are uniquely yours.

As always, when you meditate I recommend you have a pen and journal to record the thoughts and impressions you receive.

Because you are striving to reach a more exalted awareness, I also suggest you prepare your space by setting aside time without limitations in a situation where you are assured you will not be interrupted so you can let the experience flow.

Since your Soul is in control, you will only receive what is exactly right for you at this time.  Moreover, since your intention for healing is surrender to Divine Will, the healing will be what is exactly right for the one you are striving to heal.

My final instruction before you embark upon this adventure in consciousness is the reminder to express your gratitude for any insights and blessings you receive.

Namaste,

   Genevieve

Understanding Our Dual Nature

Understanding Our Dual Nature

Read Understanding Our Dual Nature article by Genevieve Gerard

This article is part of my ongoing series on Soul Awareness.

The experience of being human is an amazing blend of seemingly contradictory factors.

Let us take a moment to consider the diverse parts of the human being that must be integrated every day of our lives.  Understanding this better may help you understand the different aspects of your human nature that are often challenging.

A dear spiritual friend of mine calls this duality, but I feel that term may not capture the full depth and breadth of the dynamics of what it means to be a human being in incarnation, especially at this exciting time in human evolution.

Since the dawn of creation, when human beings first drew in the breath of life, we as human beings have been a unique creation.  We are told in the scriptures, that man was created in the image of God, the relationship between the part of ourselves that is the animal man and the part of ourselves that is Divine created in the image of the creator, has been a source of many questionsIt is that concept on which I wish to expand.

Let us take a minute to consider the meaning of the dual nature of man.  This is a subject that I have long pondered and studied. Within the understanding of that dual nature are many factors that are important to consider.

Divine Observations

The most ancient religions across the planet, even when they differ dramatically in dogma seem to have observed certain essential truthsOne of these truths is that a human being has within them something that is both Divine and eternal.

This truth is acknowledged by the ancient greeting Namaste.”  The meaning of the ancient Sanskrit phrase Namaste is that you honor and recognize this Divinity in another.  This recognition happens in a deep pre-conscious part of your being.  It is both a deep truth and a profound mystery about the human condition.

There are some things that help to consider this dual nature of your being.  Some of these are common sense observations of reality.  Others are more abstract.  Yet, even the most abstract of these seem to be a part of your collective understanding, and archetypal awareness of what it means to be a human being, a unique and amazing blending of what is material and what is spiritual.

As you delve into this mystery, there are many beliefs that may have been taught to you throughout all of our life that come into play.  When we talk about these issues, these beliefs can be a great support in your understanding or a great hindrance because what I am saying is being judged to match up with the dogma of those beliefs.

What Resonates For You As The Truth

As I write to you today I try, to my best ability, to discuss and explain these issues in a way that have a practical implication upon your life, the decisions you make and how to best take advantage of this miracle of life with which you have been blessed.  As you read this, I am going to ask you to calm your mind and open your heart.  I am going to ask you to consider these words from a place deep within you that resonates and is recognized by you when you hear the truth.

I am going to ask you today to read my words and only judge them by what resonates for you as the truth.  If anything that I write, today or ever does not live up to that standard, I request that you dismiss it.  I am a human being on the same path to being more enlightened in my awareness as you and every other human being who walks the earth.

Nothing I have ever said or will ever say should be given greater authority than the truth.

Inner Sense of Truth and Knowing

Amazingly, each of us has within us a deep sense of truth when we are open to receive it.  The common phrase, “that has the ring of truth to it” describes this experience of considering the truth in what you are hearing or reading.  There is a phrase I have often considered and pondered on along my own path, “no religion is higher than the truth.”  Therefore, it is to this inner sense of truth and knowing that I direct you as we explore this fully human and Divine aspect of your human nature.

As we consider these truths, I also ask you to consider how these truths relate to the practical daily decisions you make in your life.  In my own meditations lately, when I connect to my Soul, my own spark of Divine Light to grow and understand my life and my work, I have been pondering upon a phrase, “practical spirituality.”  Indeed, if being spiritual has a purpose in life it must be to help us live life more abundantly and more joyfully.

The more that I have come to know and understand the spiritual part of my being, the more solutions I have found to the multifaceted and myriad of life’s challenges.  Meditation has been the portal through which I make contact with the Divine spark in me, my Soul, and it is through the vast and unconditional love that is available to me when I touch my Soul, that I am granted both understanding and wisdom to solve life’s problems.

I have, to the very best of my ability, tried to capture these solutions to share with you in my guided meditations and my writings.  From my own very human challenges in life and from my many years helping others resolve life challenges I have created many meditations.  My husband jokes that my epitaph will be “I have a meditation for that.”  It is my experience that my relationship with my Soul is both immensely practical and life-enhancing.

It is from the perspective of my own awareness of my dual nature as a Soul or Spiritual being that I must integrate the needs of my body, my emotions, my thought with the directing of my Soul.  I shall strive to describe the practical applications of that dual perspective to you now.

Understanding Your Dual Nature

You Have a Physical Body

In order to have this discussion, it is important that we consider what you know to be the seeming diverse parts of your human natureFirst, you know you have a physical body.  That part of your human nature and your human experience is the source for many delights.  The five senses of the physical body are a source for a great deal of enjoyment.  It is a precious gift from the Creator.  It is a bountiful blessing.

If you apply that recommended filter of truth to the preceding statement about your body, I am sure it will pass the test.  There are those in the name of spiritual teaching who have taught you to deny the blessings of the body, with thoughts of shame and guilt.  Nevertheless, I ask you to consider with gratitude and celebration the miracle that your body is.  Open yourself to enjoy and appreciate that amazing part of the wholeness of yourself.

As it is true that the physical part of your human experience is wonderful and glorious; it is also true that you are more than a physical body.  Life, your life, is multilayered and multifaceted.  Yet, from your awareness of your physical nature, you know that the desires and the pleasures of the flesh can easily get out of balance and out of control.

Amazingly, it is your Higher Self, your Soul, which can help you keep your physical desires in balance.  The Soul, or as addiction treatment refers to it, a Higher Power, is often the key to overcoming excess and addiction to the desires and pleasures of the flesh.  This is for many a first step in calling upon their dual nature in a practical and life-changing manner.  It is by calling on the Higher Self, your own personal Higher Power, that you can gain mastery and start a process of integration.

In the Ageless Wisdom, this process is referred to as an important step in human evolution, that of bringing the Soul into dominance over the physical desires and urges.

You have a body, but you are more than your body.  This is powerfully demonstrated when you use the influence and strength of your Soul to transcend out of balance physical desires to move forward in your life.   This is an example of calling upon the advantages of being a dual being, material and spiritual.

You Have Emotions

Likewise, you have emotions.   This is one of the true challenges of our human experience.  Just as dealing with the desires of the flesh can create untold challenges in the human adventure, so too can the experience of emotions present an ongoing challenge.  The wildly erratic nature of emotions, from anger to joy, from hate to love, make having emotions, and especially not letting your emotions be in control in your life, a major focus of the practical application of spirituality.

There is no doubt that coping with and managing the desires of the flesh is an important part of life.  We have all seen the disastrous results of lives where desire and pleasure were allowed to be out of balance in life decisions.  Likewise, the rampant expressions of the volatility of emotions do not lead to a happy or fulfilling life.  This is the conclusion of a thinking man.

You Have A Thinking Mind

Truly, the mind is an equally powerful part of the wholeness of your being. Through the power of your mind, you are able to understand that you, in your human experience are more than a body.  And, by observing life you know that you are more than the sum total of your rollercoaster emotions.

Your mind and most importantly the content of your thoughts is essential to understanding what I call your spiritual anatomy.  How these diverse parts of the human nature of physical, emotional and mental combine and work together is truly amazing.  The integration and blending of these concurrently diverse forces of the self is the function of the personality.

You Are A Soul

Although the personality does a great job of striving to balance the parts of the self, the real dynamic power of one’s dual nature resides in the Soul. The Soul, that spark of Divine Light that is so rarely even considered in many people’s daily life, is where the real magic of the human experience resides.  However, as we consider the magnificent multifaceted parts of “being” a human being it is important to understand the different nature of the Soul from your personality.

The Ageless Wisdom teaches that the Soul, your Soul, is available to help you live the full breadth and the full joy of your life.  This is a power you can engage and activate in ways that help you conquer the challenges of the desires of the flesh.

You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you, none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher but your own soul.
          – Swami Vivekananda

The Soul offers the support to transcend fears and one’s more unpleasant and painful emotions.  Your Soul provides the ignition to the mind to serve in a co-creator relationship with the Divine.  With the empowering of your thoughts through the spiritual principles of the Law of Attraction and the energetic dynamics that “energy follows thought,” you can create your life.  Ponder on this.

We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.
          – Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

Although your personality does an ok job of integrating your body and your emotions with your mind, your personality is not your Soul. Your Soul, which is a spark of Divine Light, is a part of the Creative force and eternal and evolving essence of life itself.

Your Soul, rather than your personality, can do a much more enlightened job of integrating the human nature of your body, mind, and emotions.

To touch your Soul, to open your heart and your mind to that resplendent radiance and glory is life-transforming and can take place every day.  Making this distinction is important in understanding your dual nature as a human being.

As you develop, learn, and grow as a spiritual being on your quest for more enlightened awareness, it is the touch and transforming power of your Soul that will make the greatest difference.

Soul-Infused Personality

Along the path of spiritual evolution, the integration of the body, the emotions and the mind with your Soul are significant achievements. The integration of each of these parts of the self with the Soul is the forerunner to integrating your personality with your Soul.

To incorporate the consciousness of your Soul with your personality, you must focus your awareness beyond your individual self, into your oneness with all of life. Throughout the day, allow your Soul to overshadow your personality and influence every action you take.  This will make a powerful and profound difference in how you experience even the most mundane things in the world.

It is in the integration of your very human nature with your spiritual nature that the real majesty of being a physical being and a Soul comes into its full glory.

It is in this step in the evolution of a human being and a Soul that the full miracle of merging the physical with the spiritual can be demonstrated.

Check out any of my guided activity-based awareness meditations to have an experience of this.

I invite and encourage you to experience the many ways that your human nature can benefit from the greater perspective of your Soul’s wisdom and vast unconditional love.

This merging and integration with your Soul (and the ultimate understanding of your dual nature) is the most rewarding and exciting adventure you can undertake. I welcome your comments on understanding your dual nature below.

Namaste,

Genevieve
